Yukiko giggled. "Oh, I'm sure it can't be that bad," she assured her clanmate gently. "I mean, I don't know, maybe you can make it work. You're a good-looking guy." Wait a sec, did she just call Jamie good-looking? Well, he was, but did she really just say it to his face? How extraordinarily out of character! Good, all this stress must have really been messing with her brain...

Jamie blinked then burst out into a round of raucous laughter, a hand reaching out and ruffling Yuki's wet hair. "Glad someone noticed! But yer not quite my type, Kid." He said through the slowly-dieing laughter. "Y' got too much common sense." Well, too much common sense to really think much about anything like that.

Yukiko felt herself flush, although she smiled in order to counter it. When that didn't work she went for sarcasm instead.
"That's what they all say." She sighed melodramatically. It was true, in a sense. She really had never had a boyfriend, or any type of romance for that matter. Maybe it was because she acted too logical for such things. But she was still a teenage girl, so the amount of "logic" really made no difference. "But it doesn't matter. I'm young. I can wait."

Jamie snickered. "Even if ya can't, there're always strip clubs and hookers." He fully expected a blush and more mumbling based on what he already knew about Yuki. He was a drunkard, not stupid.

And cue the blush. Yukiko's face turned a deep tomato red and she seemingly lost all ability to speak. I took her a few seconds to come up with any sort of response, and most of it was just babling.
"Well, I d-d-don't know about that," she mumbled. "I-it's not really my style..."

Jamie started laughing again, just as loud as before with twice the spirit. "Ah..." He sighed as he finally calmed down. "Don't mean ta 'augh atcha, Kid, but that's just funny..." He grinned at her. "You'll get yer guy someday, no doubt in my mind." Someone was bound to find her adorable, that was definite.

Yukiko tore her gaze from her lap, where her mortified gaze had previously been focused, and looked over at Jamie. Her cheeks weren't quite as red, but there was still a definite blush.
"Thanks..." She smiled weakly, looking more apprehensive than cheerful, but her anxeity attack was starting to go away, thank God.

Jamie ruffled her hair again. "No problem, Kid." He just hoped whoever it was would know they were lucky. Yuki was certainly sweet and had a sense of humor, hidden by her caution, but there nonetheless. "Y' got any siblings, Yuki?" He decided to ask, "Or parents that need ta know where ya are?" Getting his clanmate into more trouble than she had already been in was kinda low on his list of priorities.

"Um..." That was kind of a tricky question. She had family, sure. She just wasn't positive that she wanted them to know what was going on. Maybe awhile ago she would have run straight to her dad, but he really was available at the moment. Naturally that left her mother, but calling her was honestly a last resort. Ever since joining the clans, Yukiko had made a point to speak to her as little as possible. That also counted out most of her brothers.
Ideally she'd like to call Kaito, but seeing as he lived in the Tora base and didn't own a cellphone, she had no idea how to do so. Plus, he probably wouldn't be too thrilled with having to come get her, since to him she barely qualified as a sister. She suppossed Daisuke could show up for the sake of giving her a hug, but she had no idea how to reach him either.
"I've got a load of family, but no one to call," the laughed lightly, actually amused by the predicament. "I have no idea where my brothers are, so that's not very helpful." She scartched her cheek with an awkward grin, unsure of what to say next.

Jamie rubbed his chin. "Ah... well I guess you'll be alright then." He'd keep an eye on her at the station at least, the police weren't always the nicest of people. A few he had met had been decidedly on the shoot-first-ask-questions-after end of the morality scale. "Worst comes to worst, stick with Detective Bichtits, she'll getcha to whoever ya wanna see."

"Um, okay. Right. Thanks." The Ookami girl leaned back in her sat, pausing just long enough to allow her wide green eyes to scan the landscape outside the car. Sometimes she wondered why she felt so at home in a place like this, so crowded and corrupted. There were good people here, true, but there were undoubtedly better places to live in the world. Yet, she still possesd no desire to leave Hatsu Itonami whatsoever. It was strange. Especially after today.
A minute or two passed before Yukiko moved her gaze back to her lap and spoke again. "Thanks for helping me out, by the way." She moved some wet, weed-like strands of hair from her face as she talked. "I kind of freak out easily, so I'm glad you were concerned enough to be nice to me." She looked thoughtfully out the window once more.
"I'm trying to be more confident, but it's not easy. As soon as I make friends we seem to stop seeing each other, and I usually get left behind. Life moves on and I'm still stuck in one place." Yukiko blinked, realizing she had been ranting again. She blushed, a little embarrassed. "Sorry, I think I may have said too much."

Jamie kept quiet and listened for once, deciding that hearing the girl out might be a good idea. After all, he didn't usually have serious conversations with women, they either hit him and called him a pervert before it got there, or it was all sex no speech. It might be a useful skill to know in case he ever decided to settle down.
He thought for a moment after Yuki finished talking. "I'm not sure what ta say, I've always been moving through my life, kinda too fast sometimes. I've missed a lot of things 'cuz of it, and I tend ta do the leavin' behind." Another pause, talking seriously was hard work. "But ya just need confidence, and to get that, ya gotta stop caring."

"I guess so." Yukiko's brow furrowed and she bit her lip with a look of concentration. "It's just harder than it sounds." That, and she was afraid. It was fear that had kept her so firmly grounded all these years; fear of messing up, fear of being alone, and above all- a fear of change. She supposed getting passed all of these would have to be her first step, but she really didn't want it to take another seventeen years for her to get that far.

Jamie sighed. "I know, just like it's harder than it sounds for me to keep my mouth shut, but ya still gotta try. You're bound ta find someone willing ta deal with the fallout, yeah?" His smirk reappeared. "An' it's not like you can lose much, yeah? Clans give ya free room an' board until ya hit twenty-one, at least, ya got th' time ta screw up some."

Yukiko smiled, a true genuine smile. It was true, she was young with plenty of time to make mistakes. Suddenly she found herself wondering why she'd spent so much of her life freaking out about making a fool of herself. It seemed kind of silly now. Of course, change was never easy... But Yukiko guesses she'd have to give it a shot.
"I think I owe you another thank you," the Ookami mused. "I've never felt comfortable with talking like this before. It feels nice."
