Alright, the teal-haired girl was obviously chummy with the boys and didn't seem like she was dating any of them. Of course, Tekka was horrible with romance in any way, shape, or form. Still, she doubted that there was anything much going on between Abby and anyone, at least at this point. Female characters almost always wound the risk of become love-interests at some point in time.
Now, what was it that Sam was working on? It could have referred to anything after all, a book, a complex bit of machinery, a whittling project, a pie recipe, absolutely anything. Still, it would all be revealed soon enough.

Kage chuckled at the interaction between Abby and the boys. It was clear that Sam wasn't quite perceptive enough to understand their humor, and it reminded the giant of his days with Joshua and Jeremiah, and how the younger of the brothers would often miss out on jokes. After Abby and Roy were finished aughing at Sam, the three of them walked through a large set of double doors that they had reached after walking a short distance. Through the doors existed a large cafeteria, and multitudes of students bustled through it. The trio of friends made their way to the serving line, where a plump lunch lady was dishing out huge slices of pizza. It didn't look that great, but Roy beheld it with an expression of adoration that only the comic relief character could pull off. They were walking to a table, when the screen began to focus on a muscly guy wearing a white sleeveless shirt. He was currently in the act of holding a shrimpy kid against a wall. The victim of the situation had shaggy, sand-colored hair, and he was dressed in dark blue jeans and a deep violet shirt that wore the outlines of two yellow eyes. The bully wasn't really holding the kid, but there was no escape in sight.
"I'll teach you not to mess with us..." breathed the advancing teenager. He reared back, building power, and let his fist fly forward, toward the poor kid's face. "PUNK!" he added for effect. However, his assault was stopped by an equally (if not more so) muscular arm, belonging to a boy in a green shirt. He was of an almost towering stature, and his messy blonde hair was kept tidy beneath a white backwards baseball cap.

Tekka grinned. Enter character conflict and another major or supporting role. Somehow the group was reminding Tekka of the old tales of Yugi and his friends, they just seemed to fit together so well.

Kage found himself wondering if the bully would end up being a major antagonist. It was a possibility, he supposed, but one could never be sure. Meanwhile, the two big guys were struggling a bit, and the blonde one grinned.
"Why don't you pick on someone your own size more often, Perth?" he asked. "I'm sure it's much more challenging." He succeeded in pushing the bully, Perth, backward enough to talk to the cornered kid. "Run," was all he had time to whisper as he gestured toward where Sam, Roy, and Abby were seated. The victim dashed off, and the blonde looked back up at his adversary. Perth cracked his knuckles, and was preparing to advance, when someone could be heard shouting from a distance.
"Hey, Chad!" the person yelled. "Butch is makin' a move on your girl, over here!" Perth and the blonde boy had a moment where their eyes locked malevolently, but the bully apparently decided he didn't have the time to deal with an opponent when he should be taking care of his love interest.
"Works every time..." the blonde said to himself as he walked toward the table he had previously indicated. Kage had to admit that even the bully was a halfway decent character. If the giant were in that situation, the person that was most important to him would definitely come before facing an enemy. He looked down at Tekka, and the image of the situation was filled in momentarily, with her as the one needing attention. The wanderer thought for a moment and realized that it made sense - Tekka was the one he spent the most time with. Phoenix was funny, and Caitlyn was interesting... but he cared the most for the girl right beside him; cared more for her than for anyone else he had known in quite some time.

Tekka smiled, while the bully seemed rather unlikeable for picking on the little guy there was always some action that could make anyone endearing. Though, that didn't make the bully any less of an ass.
A small twinge in her gut and mind had given the rest of her head a shove in the direction of Kage. The blond gave her subconscious a hateful glare for distracting her from the movie, but forgave it soon after for the subject it chose. Now that she thought about it, if anyone else (well, any other GUY) had asked her to the movies, she would have thought them a creeper. Yet Kage was a completely different story. Strange.
She soon realized that no matter how much she liked her brother Jack, she'd never EVER tell him about this lest he go overly-protective and tell Aiden. That would make things twice as bad and quite possibly end up with a dead Kage. That wouldn't be good.

Hotaru had been sitting in the theater since the movie had started. She hadn't seen many movies before, but this one was pretty interesting. The villians in the beginning were enough to suck her into the movie already. The redhead had always liked that sort of stuff, so it didn't really surprise her. When the scene had changed to introduce the protagonist, she really couldn't help but laugh quietly to herself. The characters so far seemed pretty likeable to her, which was probably going to make it hard for her in the end to chose a side she'd want to win in the end.

Kage's eyes locked with Tekka's, and he had the sensation that they were thinking somewhere along the same lines. Maybe not exactly, but there was definitely a connection. As the scene continued, the puny kid who had just escaped the bully's wrath had run up to the first three characters, panting. The blonde boy was close behind him, and he still looked quite triumphant.
"Don't be surprised if Butch goes missing for a while," he said with a grin. He turned to the escaped victim of the beating up. "Why were you messing with Chad and his crew, anyway?" he asked firmly. The boy looked up through his mess of shaggy hair, a look of slight embarrassment on his features.
"I'm new here..." he replied in a voice that had only begun to crack. "My family just moved here, and I don't have any friends..." Sam smiled at him.
"You do now, kid," he said warmly. "The name's Sam Revlis, and these are my friends..." He extended an arm to indicate each of the other students seated at the table. "This here's Roy D'Leuge." The redhead looked up, still destroying his pizza.
"'Sup," he greeted, sounding a bit distracted. Sam pointed to Abby, who smiled and waved casually.
"That's Abby Izumi," the supposed main character said.
"Konnichiwa," Abby chimed in happily.
"Finally, the big guy is John Warren," Sam concluded, finishing his arm sweep with the blonde. John simply grinned at the new kid.

Tekka zoned out as Kage's eyes locked with hers. It was a strange time to realize you were in love (especially since her subconscious had been screaming it at her for a few days now), in the middle of an action movie that is. Still, those were the thoughts that drifted to the forefront of her mind at that moment, and she'd be damned if she ignored 'em any longer.
She managed to catch back up with the scene rather well after the eye-contact broke. Now there were full names to match to faces and Tekka wasn't getting bored. This Jake guy oughta be proud, it took a lot to get Tekka to sit down and shut up, and seeing as it was a movie, to not throw popcorn at people.

Kage found himself split mentally in half. One part wanted to get his money's worth for the movie, but the other wanted to gaze at Tekka some more.
You can play Goo-Goo Eyes with her all ya want later, Joshua scolded genially. Don't get all awkward now, especially when you don't know if she feels the same way. Kage fought the urge to let a third part of his mind argue with his conscience. How could she NOT feel the same way? Oh, well. Joshua was right. For now, the shrimpy kid was speaking again.
"I already know John," he was saying. "He's the one who saved me from that bully." The four other teenagers all smiled, and John was given three proud rhumbs-up from his friends.
"He tends to do that from time to time," Abby responded. "We all do our part. It's sorta become our thing." She smiled at the new student, and the two shared a glance similar to the Kage and Tekka had just shared.
"I'm Jess, by the way," said the shortest of the five teenagers. "Jess Carter." John stepped forward and put a brotherly arm around Jess's shoulders.
"Word to the wise, Jess," he advised. "Stay away from Chad Perth and his gang. They're nothing but trouble." Roy looked up at this, his curious expression made humorous by the bit of cheese hanging from the corner of his mouth.
"I've never had any trouble with those guys," he protested, his face showing a genuine lack of understanding. Abby shrugged.
"Probably because you're their captain, Roy," she commented. "If Coach Zimmerman didn't know that you're the best thing to happen to the Ridgeview Hyenas, Chad's circle of friends would beat the crap out of you, just like they do to everyone else." She looked down momentarily, obviously not liking the reality that she had just spelled out.

Tekka blinked as she looked back at the screen. She had a feeling that Jess would play a deeper role in the future. Probably as an antagonist, you never introduced a new person into a balanced group without them turning on you later. Though there were exceptions to that rule Tekka was betting this wouldn't be one of them.
Besides, Jess didn't seem like just a random plot device character or he wouldn't have gotten a name and more than ten seconds of screen time.

Kage had to wonder about Jess. He imagined that once more people starting watching this movie (if more did), the new kid would probably attract a lot of attention from the younger female viewers. As the scene continued, Abby looked back up at Jess, an assuring smile replacing the bitter scowl she had worn a second ago.
"Speaking of which," she said. "If you stick with us, you'll be just fine." There was another staring moment, and Sam tapped the teal-haired girl on the shoulder.
"I forgot to mention," he said with a grin. "There is something I've been working on."
"It's about time!" John remarked. He, along with the rest of the original group, showed expressions of utmost enthusiasm.
"Can we see it?" asked Roy. Sam scratched his chin in thought for a moment.
"Well..." he said, making the other three change from exhilaration to frustration for prolonging whatever it was he was about to unveil. "It's still in the beta stage of development, but... I don't see why not." Tumultuous cheers came from Roy, Abby, and John. Even Jess looked excited, although a little shy. He looked down briefly, then looked at Sam.
"Do you think... I could come along, too?" asked the shaggy-haired shrimp. Sam responded with a warm smile and a nod.
"Just find one of us after school," he explained. "We'll take you to my house."

Ah! NOW they were getting somewhere! Whatever this project was, it was going to have an effect on the rest of the movie, Tekka was positive of this much. The fact that Jess wanted to go too reinforced Tekka's idea that he was some sort of villain in disguise, the fact that it could just be friendly curiosity didn't quite occur to the blond. But it was the middle of a movie, she had a reason to be distracted.

Kage had finished his sandwich by now, and had discreetly opened a can of root beer (when you were that financially deprived, even opening a can was a necessary art to avoid theater snack costs). He took at least a third of the can in one draught, and continued to watch the scene unfold. The setting changed to the place called Dark Earth again, but this time, there was a little girl, cornered in an alleyway by a gang of cruel-looking (and somewhat frightening, even for the giant) mutant children. The leader was another little girl, but whereas the trapped one looked fairly normal, the leader of the gang had an extra eye peeking through the straggly curtain of her hair. Its shape and size reminded Kage of Yubel, and he shuddered a bit. He had never liked that card much.
"You're gonna pay for what you did!" shouted the triclops. The other children put in their own comments, yelling things like "Freak!" and "Murderer!" The crowd advanced on the poor girl, and they were about to close the gap when the familiar dark chuckle of the skull-faced villain could be heard.
"Foolish children," he breathed, still offscreen. The children turned around, ready to attack, but they shrank back a little when they saw their opponent.
"Wh-who asked you?" the leader challenged feebly. Another laugh escaped the villain as his eyes began to glow slightly green.
"You have no idea what you're dealing with, do you?" retorted the towering being. Without another word, there were multitudes of tendrils, wrapping themselves around the attacking children and holding them to the walls of the alley's buildings. "I'm sure that, were it up to this girl here, you would be in much worse shape than this..." The girl, who had begun to watch amusedly from in between two large trash cans, stared at the leader of the children with eyes that could discintegrate titanium alloy. The gang, who were all screaming for mercy at this point, begging to be spared and crying to the villain that they might keep their lives. The entity holding them there only sneered. "I do wish that I could oblige your pleas for safety..." he said in a smoother voice. "but every action... has its consequence." With that, the tendrils began to envelop their prisoners, retreating back to show nothing but a few bones and the skull of the three-eyed girl.

The blond unconsciously (consciously? Perhaps if she knew what his reaction would be...) leaned up against Kage as the skull came into view, repressing a slight shiver. Whoever said that a good musical score did wonders for a movie was right. Tekka was pretty sure that the image of those bones and the sound of the deaths were going to creep her out next time she walked through the graveyard on a late-night cemetery stroll... well, if she ever decided to be a total idiot and and actually GO on a late stroll through the graveyard. She wasn't THAT stupid.

Kage felt the slight pressure, and then the faintest shiver, of Tekka's body at his side, and without thinking, he placed his arm around her, his hand resting on one of hers. The writers and directors certainly knew how to yank the chain of the audience - one minute, they were watching four good friends talking at lunch, and the next... The main villain was ruthlessly killing children. Now, he was walking (or perhaps gliding... floating? Nah, perhaps sliding) toward the girl, whose eyes suddenly began to glow purple. The trash cans on either side of her began to shake, but the towering creature held out his hand for her to stop.
"You don't have to put up with them, you know," he informed her, somehow managing to look certain of himself. She tried to shrink back further against the wall, but it was no good. The main villain lowered himsef so that was at the girl's level and continued. "There was no need to attack me, girl. If you aid me, I will make you the ruler of this horrid place." The child looked down uncertainly, and the giant couldn't blame her in the least. He wouldn't want to rule Dark Earth, nor would he want to trust that freaky skull... thing. The screen zoomed in on the girl, and a stuffed animal became visible in her arms. It was a rabbit, and it looked like it was well beyond worse for wear. In fact, one of its ears was almost gone. The villain reached out and touched the animal, mending its ear instantly. "You see?" he asked. "I can be trusted." As the scene closed, the newest of the being's recruits looked up at him, smiling. Even Kage shuddered at this. That kid's smile was possibly the creepiest thing he'd ever seen. Something in his brain pulled a switch, and his hand closed around Tekka's. There seemed to be a little message in his mind telling him that she might have wanted him to.
