Satoru restrained laughter. "Of course not, and it makes it a great indicator of your frustration since you can't hide it."

Persephone blankly sputtered, initially unable to think of a response. "Frustration with your annoying attitude maybe...!" She crossed her arms and scowlEd. "...Jerk."

Satoru snorted. "Like I've never been called that one? Where's that creativity and wit I thought I heard from you?" He had HONESTLY been expecting a little more than that from Persephone, even if it was an insult directed at HIM.

"Oh please, like you're always so witty." Persephone glared at him, pushig all her flustered emotions aside. "Pointing out characters flaws in other people isn't being clever, it's just being an asshole in order to cover up your insecurities."

Satoru smiled. "Never tried to be witty, but it's the easiest way to get you pissed." He replied. "But if that's your theory, then give it a go with me. What are those 'insecurities' you're perceiving?" If she was gonna try and call him out on anything, then he was going to give her hell for misjudging him. Anything and everything he did was for his own benefit, or in the case of Persephone: entertainment.

Persephone studied her companion for a moment. She was definitely picking up on something, but it wasn't distinct enough to describe with words. Although she doubted Satoru wouldn't see such an answer as a cop-out.
"Well you know what they say: Insults are a short garment that reveals the one that use them... Or something like that." It was something her mom had liked to chastise her with quite a lot. "And besides, I may not have known you long enough to come up with anythig definitive yet, but a little detective work can solve that no problem." Persephone gave a chesire grin to punctuate the semi-threat.

"Where'd ya hear that, Chatterbox? A fortune cookie?" As if her detective skills would unearth anything important. His fears could be avoided, and those that couldn't he was dealing with. It was hardly anything Persephone could exploit. Besides, Egil wouldn't rat him out. Mina might unless Egil talked to her (and the Swede always managed to use sweets to soften her biting temper), but he was pretty much in the black.

"Well my mom did sound like a fortune cookie sometimes." The Tora shrugged witha small laugh. "She always meant well though, and we all were pretty good kids while she was around." Although the lessons really only stuck with Jane. Persephone and her brother had both strayed from the "right" path more than a few times.

Satoru glanced up (curse the height difference) at Persephone again. "So she's dead?" Either dead or missing, not too many other options really. He'd say 'poor kid' but hadn't he been in the same sort of situation? Kid on the wrong side of the tracks with technically no mother or father? If he could make it out alive, so could Persephone.

"Yeah. She died around... ten years ago maybe?" Persephone shrugged. "I dunno, she got real sick all of a sudden and then POOF. No more mom." It was unfortunate, but it really wasn't anything the Tora could change. There was no use wasting her life getting focusing on something that was beyond her control. Or so she told herself.

Satoru nodded in understanding. Well, at least the woman had gone peacefully... more so than several other methods of dying Satoru knew of at least... He had always disliked it when women and children (however annoying) suffered needlessly.

"To be honest, it's getting harder and harder to remember her properly." Persephone tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I mean, I know she loved books and flowers and she had a really nice smile... But I can't really recall the sound of her voice." She smiled softly. "Kinda scary isn't it? It's like i've gone senile or somethin'." To be fair, ten years had just sort of flown by, and it wasn't like she had any pictures to look at. At least not until recently. Jane kept a few with her; which was fortunate considering Persephone hadn't taken any when she had left home.

"Could be worse." Satoru replied. "You could not remember her at all, instead of just barely." He couldn't remember the last time he COULD remember his own mother... and he had never known his biological father, his last name was taken from his mentor for the sole purpose of putting something on the medical record when his leg had been shot up.

"Yeah, I guess." Something told her that Satoru was speaking from experience, but she didn't comment on it. Even Persephone knew when certain topics were a tad "too" personal to talk about.
Annnnd there was that feeling of melancholy again. "GAH, this conversation is too serious for me." Persephone threw her arms up in exasperation. "I can only take so much sad stuff at a time."

"Pity, sob stories are everywhere in this city. Makes me wonder how you survived this long without exploding from sad-overload." He asked himself the same thing rather often, though his tolerance for melancholy seemed to be higher than the younger Tora.
