Kaito glanced back at Ayumu to make sure she didn't fall behind. If he noticed the giggling, he didn't show it. Trying once again for a new topic, he spoke.
"So that guy with you was your brother, right? What's he like?" the Tora was trying to reconstruct his emotionless mask, but failing.

Ayumu walked side by side with Kaito so not to get too far behind. "Kyou?" she asked to clarify. She smiled a little at the thought of her twin. "Well, he can get pretty hyper and is a real handful to take care of a lot of the time, but I guess siblings are normally like that."
Her smile didn't go away, but it did seem to drop a little. "He gets paranoid a lot of the time, worries that he's holding me back and all. I reassure him when it starts getting to him too bad, but I'm not sure just how good it does sometimes." She sighed, pushing her hair behind her ear. She hadn't told anyone all that before, but she had a feeling Kaito didn't gossip so she wasn't really worried.

"It's a brother's job to worry," Kaito replied softly. "While I don't have much experience with actual siblings, I've had a lifetime's worth of substitute ones. No matter how though they are, to you they'll always be made of glass. Priceless glass..." The Tora trailed off, wondering if he was making any sense.

"Yeah, I know." she muttered. "But a few weeks ago at headquarters, one of my friends tried explaining to him that apparently I'd be better off without him." being one to hide irritation and anger well, Ayumu didn't clench her fist or anything to show her feelings outwardly. "It messed with his head a little. He's fine and all now, but it's been worrying me a little since then."

Kaito had to wonder what kind of friend would try to drive a wedge like that between siblings. It didn't seem very... well, friend-like. What if someone had told him that he was bad for Megumi? Or Persephone?
"I supposse that they were only looking out for you," the blue-haired Tora murmured. "But that still doesn't make it okay."

Ayumu nodded in agreement. "Not at all..."
There was a sudden gust of cold air, startling the blond and making her jump. She started rubbing her arms a little to warm up, though it didn't do too much. She knew it was going to get cold later on, so why didn't she bring a jacket with her?

The wind had absolutely no effect on Kaito. In fact, he wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been for poor Ayumu shivering at his side. Filled with sudden enlightenment the Tora realized that his companion was probably cold. He removed his jacket, which was a dark, pale-ish green and slight-army style. The inside was lined with cozy, warm fluff. Not that he needed it (Kaito never got cold) but it was nice for a someone on the chillier side.
"Here," he nonchalantly draped it over Ayumu's shoulders, a small offering.

Ayumu almost instantly warmed up when the jacket was draped over her. This included her cheeks, which wasn't touching the jacket at all. "Thanks.." she muttered shyly, her timid smile growing a little more. She felt bad that he had given his jacket to her to use for the moment, but she also didn't want to be rude and give it back to him like she didn't appreciate it. "B-but, aren't you cold?" she asked, concerned.

"Nah," Kaito replied with a shrug. True, with only a tight black band t-shirt on underneath the coat he must look cold, but he honestly wasn't. The chill just bounced off his skin instead of sinking in. "Besides, I wouldn't want you to get hypothermia or pnemonia or anything." He gave her a lopsided half-grin along with the somewhat-teasing words.

Ayumu laughed at his reply, slipping her arms through the sleeves of the jacket. "How nice of you." she said, still giggling. She took a good look at him, he had a really nice smile.
"You really should smile more often." she told him. "It's kinda cute." she muttered the last part slightly, feeling a little embarrassed about the compliment she just gave him. Well, she wasn't lying.

In spite of himself, Kaito flushed. It was barely noticeable, only a small trace of pink laced through his pale cheeks, but it was there all the same.
"Thanks." What to say now? He didn't really have a default response for this... "You're smile is, uh, pretty cute too." Inwardly Kaito winced. Why was he talking like an idiot? Normally he was always one step ahead, always ready with a witty response. Now he was practically brain-dead.

Ayumu could have kicked herself with how much she was blushing that night. Honestly, it didn't seem to end! "Thank you." was about all she could respond with without making herself look like an idiot.
When she did regain her ability to talk decently again she looked at Kaito oddly. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," the Tora replied quickly. "Just trying to navigate the forest is all..." Yet another lame grouping of words. Thankfully, the lack of thought was interrupted as Kaito burst through the final stretch of trees and into a large open field. Although he wasn't sure exactly where they were, at least they were out of the trees. Now they just needed to make it back to base. Or maybe just the nearest cafe.
"Hot chocolate sounds really appealing at the moment," Kaito joked.

Ayumu inwardly cheered when they made it out of the forest and onto some field. She nodded at Kaito's comment about the hot chocolate. "Sure does." she replied. She remembered winters in the past when her and West would make hot chocolate and sit in the living room of their parents' home and watch tv. Good times...

Kaito gazed at the star-speckeled sky for a moment. They were near the Plantation Manor, still in Kuma territory but not too far from civilization. Hopefully the walk wouldn't take long enough for Ayumu to catch a cold. As to his own health, the Tora really wasn't concerned. He explained this to his companion quickly.
"We're by the Plantation Manor, so it shouldn't take too long to get back. We'll just have to follow the road from here." Kaito glanced across the field to the dark, blurred line in the distance, completely void of movement.
