"I've grow up with people who prefer to do the talking for me," Kaito responded. He moved a low-hanging tree branch out of his way as he spoke. "After awhile you learn to live with being silent." Not that this bothered him, not by a long shot. Keeping his mouth shut was something Kaito had just grown to accept over the years. It was as natural to him as breathing.

Ayumu tried to dig a little deeper, something unusual for the normally timid Tora. "Doesn't mean it's any fun." she pointed out, smiling a little more. "There's got to be something you enjoy talking about, right?" she asked hopefully. She didn't want the entire walk to be just her talking and trying to get him to talk. "Anything at all?"

Hm. He had to think about that one. Kaito had never been one for steady conversation (at least when it didn't involve squabbling with Yukiko), so it was hard to think of one particular topic he was interested in. In the past he'd nod when Persephone gushed about a dead-beat father but that was about it.
"I... I'm not sure." For once there was an air of uncertanity in his voice. "I guess I've always been a listener." He paused for a moment, unsure of what to say next.

Ayumu giggled a little, somehow she found his response quite adorable. "Well, let's help you out." she said, running through topics in her head that could lead to conversation without getting into personal matters. "So what got you interested in playing guitar?" she tried, hoping that bring up something.

Kaito had to think of that one for a moment. It was a long story, he suppossed, if one wanted the detailed version of it. All in all it had been Megumi who had initially sucked him into the world of music, and her mother who had completely emersed him in it.
A single parent like his own mother, Miss Osaki had dropped out of high school to join a rock group before getting pregnant with her daughter. Whenever Kaito would visit she would let them play with the horde of instruments left over from her rock-star days. Naturally, Kaito had gotten hooked.
"I guess," the Tora replied thoughtfully, "the short version is that my friend's mom taught me how to play in elementary school. She tried to teach Megumi too, but I think she always preferred drums."
He chuckled, recalling the sight of a small glass-doll-like girl pouding away with a pair of drumsticks. To this day he still found it hilarious.

Ayumu giggled. "I got a laugh out of you, look's like we're getting somewhere." she said with a smile. Maybe she could get a little more out of him, she was off to a good start.
"So your friend Megumi?" she asked to go a bit deeper. "What's she like? How'd you two meet?" she didn't see a problem in asking about his friends, especially since mentioning her seem to bring up something happy for Kaito.

"Megumi?" Kaito suppossed he really couldn't vouch for what she was likke nowadays, considering he hadn't seen her since he and his mother had moved to the big city. But in his mind she was completely unchanging; an immortal structure of ice, always frozen in time. The Tora breathed into the increasingly chilly night air and then opened his mouth to respond.
"She's... well she's really something else." Kaito smirked to himself. "When I first saw her, some jerks thought it was a good idea to pick on her. I went to go tell 'em off, but she beat me to the punch." The blue-haired Tora actually laughed at the memory. "I practically had to drag her off the guy before she clawed his eyes out."
How old had they been then... five? Well, Megumi had always been a fighter, that was for sure.

Ayumu giggled. "Cute." she commented. Well, 'Cute' wasn't exactly the best choice of words, but she figured it'd serve its purpose well enough. "So was it mainly just Megumi you'd hang out with, or did you have a lot of other friends?" he seemed like he could be a pretty cool person to hang out with once you got him talking.

"Just Megumi." He didn't have to think about that one. "We were both a bit odd, and so were our parents... Even if we'd hated each other I think we would've been stuck together anyhow." But of course he couldn't ever hate Megumi. Something about her quirky personality made that feat impossible.
"'Course then my mom decided to move, so I haven't really seen her in awhile." Kaito shrugged, as if it really didn't matter to him. Actually, he wasn't really sure if it did or not. He hadn't thought about Megumi in awhile.

"Well, have you tried writing her or calling?" she suggested. "If you two were as close as it sounds, then it'd be a waste for the two of you to just lose all contact like that..." Ayumu couldn't really know how that felt however.
Really, her only true friend had been her brother. She was always too busy making sure he didn't cause some sort of mess to bother hanging out with the other girls in school. Losing all connection with Kyou would be terrible for her despite the small(yet existent)darker part of her mind telling her to just leave him and actually do things for herself for once. She tended to ignore those thoughts most of the time though...

Kaito paused. No, he actually hadn't thought of that. He'd gotten so swpt up in his own life and problems he'd never had the idea to keep in touch with Megumi. As to why, well he hadn't an idea in the slightest. It seemed silly, actually, now that he thought about it.
"I never really considered it," the Tora drawled quietly. He didn't say much else, any excuse he had would probably end up sounding pretty weak. The only reason he could up with was a complete lapse of logic on his part.

Ayumu paused, noticing how quiet his response had been. A quick moment later she took his hand and smiled. "Hey, it's alright. You've probably just been busy and the thought never occurred. It happens." she didn't want him going back to being so silent, it made the trip awkward. Besides, it was kind of fun listening to him talk.

"I guess," he murmured. Kaito paused for a moment, scanning the woods. He knew exactly which direction in which to go, but he didn't a second to gather his thoughts. The Tora turned to the right, looking back to make sure Ayumu was following.
"So what about you?" He asked, shifting the focus off of himself for a moment. "Any childhood shenanigans you've been involved in?"

Ayumu kept following him, releasing the slight hold on his hand as she scratched her cheek. "Actually, I was pretty much the shy straight A student all my life." she shrugged. "Between that and having to watch West all the time, it was kinda hard for me to even get around to talking to other people to get involved with other stuff." she laughed a little hesitantly. She must sound like a lame and boring sort of person to him...

That didn't sound boring to Kaito at all; more like... stable. While most teens would be "bored" with having a normal life, it was something Kaito had hungered for a number of years. What would it be like to not have to worry about getting bills paid by the time you were seven? Probably much, much easier.
"At least being a good kid came take you places," the Tora mused. "Me? I'm a delinquent. There's not many places for a hoodlum like me to settle into."
He was half-kidding. He hadn't killed anyone or anything, but Kaito had certainly seen his fair share of the dark side of the law (mostly thanks to Persephone, but he never really blamed her for it).
