Hotaru thought for a second, looking up as she did. She turned to lay on her side, facing him as she smiled. "I'm too lazy to get up right now." she told him. "So unless you wanna carry me, I don't think I'll be getting up soon."

"Mmmm..." Jack thought for a moment. "Nah, I'm too lazy to carry you. Look's like we'll be staying here for awhile." He grinned and stretched out some, letting his muscles relax. The sand was so warm and soft. Thoughts of the Caribbean beaches of old washed through his mind, it was a pity that they had gotten so rocky and craggly thanks to the Age of Armageddon.

Hotaru turned to lay on her back once more, closing her eyed to let the rythm of the ocean's waves ring in her ears. It was hard to think that there were still places this peaceful considering the time they were in. It made her wonder how long it would last.
"Do you think the war could get so bad as to ruin this place?" she asked Jack. She knew the answer, she just wanted to hear what he had to say about it.

The question roused Jack from his daze. He pondered for a second. No possible point in sugar-coating it, Hotaru had seen lots of things in her life and probably already knew the answer. Jack sighed. "I hope not, but it might. 'The night is darkest before the dawn' as the saying goes."
He shrugged. "I guess we can just hope. We're not dueling with guns and swords, we're dueling with cards and holograms. The actual damage in the exchanges of territory won't be that much, but..."
There was always a 'but,' and the Ookami hated that. "People do some really crazy shit. The only real way this place'll get destroyed is if someone were to ruin it so that no one would want to take it." He looked upwards in thought. "Which would actually be pretty stupid."

"Yeah," Hotaru agreed. Her expression appeared blank and emotionless. "That would be kinda dumb, but in a way it still wouldn't work. If someone's power hungry enough, they'll take any part of the town they can get, even if it appears terrible. People go mad for control, no matter how much they really have in the end. They won't care if it results in another's injury or death." she spoke out of pure exprience.
"Not everyone lives through a fire and changes their ways, you know." she then said, showing a light smile. Oh wait, that's right. Jack didn't know the story behind her nickname. Well, he was smart enough to put things together.

And suddenly, the nickname clicked. So that was the gang she was a part of, the one the Ookami had tried to get rid of all that time ago. He didn't know how long, but that had to be what she was talking about. It was once that his clan had gone out on a mission like that. Jack hadn't been a part of it luckily, he was in the government at that time.
Boy, would that have made it awkward if he had been a part of it. He decided not to bring it up, though one could see the gears had been turning. It didn't change a thing.
"I suppose not." He said, ruffling her hair and ridding it of some sand. "Looks like I'm lucky to have you around."

Hotaru's smile grew a little when he ruffled her hair. "Yeah," she said, relaxing a bit more. "You can thank Greg for that, it was rescue one of two." she rubbed her side a little. "There's still a few scars from the burns, but nowhere noticable thankfully."
Hotaru felt so peaceful for the moment. It felt good to be able to talk about this sort of stuff to someone and not end up going to jail or something. She let out a sigh, closing her eyes again.

"So no incriminating evidence." He joked. Briefly he wondered how much time had passed since their arrival here, it felt like they had just gotten there, but time flies when you're having fun, and Jack was certainly having fun.
"You ever thought about what it would be like to fly?" He asked out-of-the-blue. He had no idea where it had come from, but a question was a question. While the silences were comfortable, his imagination was working overtime and thus came the random queries.

She opened one of her eyes to see him. "Every once in a while." she said, sitting up. "I use to daydream about flying with the birds when I was little." she giggled. "I'd be nice to actually be able to do something like that."
She pushed her legs closer to her and laid her chin on her knees. "What about you?"

Jack rested his head on his arms as he stared at the clouds floating lazily by, he held one of his hands straight up in the air, palm up and fingers spread. The brunette peered through the gaps between his digits. "I think it'd be nice to fly. Without help or in a plane, just be perfectly free, able to soar above all of the problems down here." He fisted the hand.
"Of course, that wouldn't help fix the problems, but it would be nice to just escape for a little while." The arm dropped and he turned his head. "But we're sort of escaping from the war right here, so I guess this is as close as I can get to flying." He grinned. "I gotta say, I think I like this better."

"Me too." she agreed. She tried scooting herself a little closer to Jack, but not too noticably. Hotaru was still a little cold wanted some source of heat to help her out. She was a little nervous about the action for a moment, after all, was it ever made official that they were boyfriend and girlfriend? The red head didn't think so, unless she had missed something along the way.

Jack train of thought had wandered to about the same topic. They hadn't really made it official, had they? No you didn't you forgetful moron. His subconscious reminded him before slinking off again. His subconscious was kinda rude and he made a note of it.
He didn't move away as she came close, it was starting to get a little chilly thanks to the wind. Instead, he watched the waves slowly creep up the the beach.

Hotaru blushed a little. She didn't want to bring up the topic, but it was bothering her so much! How to word it, though...
"So, um..." she began nervously. "How long until we decide if we should..." she mentally slapped herself. She should have stayed silent, this was just embarassing! "W-well, you know..." she ended up finishing. Great, the awkward feeling from lastnight had returned. What else was gonna happen?

Jack shrugged, blush rising. Just keep your cool, not that you ever had much of one. This time his conscious mind was ready for the snarky bastard which was his subconscious. An imaginary version of a Blue Eyes White Dragon roared to life, incinerating the asshole-ish thoughts before dissipating.
He briefly wondered if he was schizo, then dismissed it. That was more Tekka than him, he was just feeling the aftereffects of so little sleep last night.
So, back to the matter at hand. If he was thinking what he thought that she was thinking, then he should probably take a crack at phrasing it. "Making it official?" He tried. There were a lot of possibilities with that half-sentence after all.

Hotaru nodded her head. "Yeah..." she said, trying to speak in a calm matter, if she could. Get a grip... Get a grip, you got pass stage one lastnight, how hard could this be? She tried to relax herself, taking deep, silent breaths.
