Seeing that the wind wasn't going to abate all that quickly, Jack shifted a little so that he was blocking the wind. So what if he got a cold? He'd get to stay in bed and miss meetings, besides that, it was very rare that he actually got sick. Keeping Hotaru warm was more important right now.
The bird didn't seem to care about the slight shift and hopped forward once again. It did this a few more times before it stood behind Hotaru, keeping it both out of the wind and out of the rain. Jack laughed. "That's one smart bird." He muttered, placing his chin on the Tora's head of soaked hair. Not to say that he was any dryer by this point...

Hotaru's eyes were closed at this point as she continued talking to Jack. "Are you gonna be alright?" she asked him. "I don't want you getting sick 'cause of me." She didn't want him getting sick at all, but it would make her feel a little guilty if it was because he was trying to keep her warm the whole time.
The red head held onto him a little tighter, hoping she could at least keep a little of him warm.

"I'll be fine," He smiled softly, "I never get sick." Unfortunately there was no wood around to properly knock on, so he had probably just jinxed himself. Oh well, no big deal. He felt Hotaru tighten her grip and smiled a little wider. She really was wonderful, it was difficult to believe that she had the past that she did.
Then again, the world seemed to enjoy throwing him for a loop. He should expect these sorts of things by now.

Hotaru smiled, eyes still closed. "If you're sure..." she muttered. She begen to wonder slightly if she was blushing or not, but didn't bother to put much thought into it. Depsite the current weather, she was enjoying herself.
The Tora fought the urge to fall asleep, though it wasn't that hard to do. Though Jack was doing a good job of blocking the wind and rain from her, some drops of rain still managed to tap her and keep her awake.

"I am." He replied before beginning to hum softly. There wasn't too much bluster in the storm anymore, odds were good that that small patch of clear skies would be over them any minute now. Of course, that thought didn't make the current situation any warmer.

Hotaru opened her eyes a little when Jack started humming. "You really want me to fall asleep, don't you?" she asked, smiling softly. Even though it was only her second time hearing him, the red head liked it when Jack hummed. He sounded really good; it amazed her that someone so talented would be interested in her.
She also noticed that the sky was starting to get a little clear. "If I fall asleep, you're free to wake me up." she joked.

"Oh I will," Jack chuckled. "I still haven't memorized where you live and even if I did, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want me to carry you there." An assumption, but they'd get caught in the storm again if they didn't take advantage of the small patch of clarity. It was still a little ways off, a few more minutes and they'd have to run for it.
"I sure hope this doesn't become a recurring theme." He muttered to himself. Had he said that earlier? The rain made his thoughts turn to mush. Or perhaps that was more because of Hotaru's head on his chest.
He forced his train of thought back onto the tracks. Running through the rain was nice when it was warmer out, but right now it would just make them sick. Jeez, talk about a killjoy.

"So what do you wanna do?" she asked him. "Stay here and wait, or take a chance on the rain?" Hotaru really didn't care either way what they did.

"I say we make a break for it," He replied. "It's easing off a little." If they stayed out for too much longer then both would be in danger of getting sick, no matter how well he blocked the rain.

Hotaru let go of Jack then took his hand. "Alright, let's go, then!" she said, smiling. She gently pulled him forward and started running faster than she had in a while.
The Tora never felt so free before. Running like a little kid in the rain(for the second time in two days), kicking up sand, it all seemed so... unlike her. She was usually so calm and collected, but lately she had been breaking out of her shell. Maybe she should do this more often.

Jack laughed and ran with her, the wet sand provided more traction than it typically would and it was easy to keep up with the Tora. Sand still kicked up in clumps and flew a short distance in the air before landing softly, but by the time its journey was completed the two teens were too far away to notice.
The rain was easing up little by little and by the time they had reached the edge of the residential sector it had gone down to little more than a drizzle.

Hotaru and Jack finally arrived at the front of her house. Her hair and clothes were soaking at this point, but she didn't mind.
The red head turned to him, smiling softly. "Thanks." she told him. "I know it's polite to say this on a first date, but I seriouly had a great time." She stood there, holding his hand, not sure what to do next.

Jack smiled. "As did I." He hugged her and placed a quick chaste kiss on the top of her forehead before shooing her inside. "Get in there and warm up," He laughed out. "If I get a cold it better not be for nothing." Blocking all that rain was going to get him an earful from, well, just about everyone.
Oh well, no real loss so long as the Tora in front of him was happy.

Hotaru's smile grew when Jack kissed her forehead. She giggled at his last comment. "Alright, alright." Before closing her door she looked back at him. "And you're not gonna get a cold. Being positive helps with everything." she giggled a little again. "I'll see you later."
When Hotaru closed the door, she took a deep breath, and made one small, but excited jump in the air. This had no doubt been one of the best days of her life.

Jack gave a wave and a grin as the door closed before turning and padding off into the drizzle. Once he was a sufficient distance away he gave a small whoop of joy and spun in a circle happily.
Best. Day. Ever.
This thought was ruined by a tickling in his nose followed by a sneeze. He gave a slight groan, but it really didn't dampen his mood much. Despite getting a cold, the day had really been superb.
With this happy thought in mind, he hummed his way back to the base, planning out fair bullshitting of a story as he went.
