Gabe was currently sitting in the lounge at the dorms. The past couple of days had been a little more eventful than usual, so he figured it'd be nice to just sit and read again for the first time in a while. He didn't like staying locked up in his room all day, and the lounge was currently quiet enough so he figured he'd stay there for a while.
Until someone was bound to find him at least, that seemed to be happening a lot lately.

Merry peeked into the lounge. Usually it was pretty crowded, and honestly the white-haired girl wasn't a huge fan of being around too many people. It made her anxious and worried that her meds would fail at the worst of times, or have her nervously double-checking that she had taken them that morning.
But mostly because it was too much like her voices were still there, even when they weren't.
So when she looked in an only a few people there, and one of them was Gabe... Well, she had to come in. She had brought a book and everything. She took a breath and waited for her blush to go down before trotting in. "Hi Gabe!" She sang merrily.

The blonde looked up from his book and at the source of the voice. He couldn't help but smile, now wasn't this a nice surprise? "Oh hey Merry." he said to the little white haired girl. This was definitely a nice change from the company he'd had recently. Not that he didn't like said company, but it was good to find someone a little on the quieter side for once.
He waved her over for her to sit. "Haven't seen you in a while, been stayin' out of trouble?" Their last(and first) meeting had been him getting her to the dorms after she'd gotten herself lost, he hoped she'd been doing okay after that.

Merry blushed as she remembered their last meeting. She had been such a little kid about getting lost. "Uh, yeah." She replied, smiling through the blush as she rubbed the back of her neck. "I've been okay, what about you?" She moved to hop onto the couch next to him, keeping a bit of distance between them. "Like you said, we uh, haven't seen each other in a bit..." She said, mentally beating herself up. She needed to be witty! Like, like those books her sister read or like her sister's girlfriend even.
The issue was that snarky wit didn't seem to come naturally to the Tora... "So has anything happened?" She kept her smile up. Ladies always smiled.

Gabe couldn't help the light chuckle that came out. She was shy, now that was adorable. "A few things here and there, but nothin' too important." He figured she wouldn't want to hear about his adventures with Fei Yen and the events that followed. "It's been pretty hectic lately though, nice to actually sit and do nothing for once."

"I see," Merry hugged her book a bit closer as she mulled that over with a nod. She supposed Gabe would be a lot busier than her, he was really close to graduating after all... And from what she had heard, he had a few friends (aside from her, if she could consider herself a friend) so that probably kept him occupied. "Whatcha reading?" She decided to ask, tucking a wayward strand of hair back behind her ear.

Gabe blinked and looked down at his book. "What AM I reading? I forgot…" He read a lot in his free time, he tended to get his books mixed up. After skimming a line he nodded to himself. "Oh, 'A Separate Peace', this guy John Knowles wrote it." He'd finished rereading The Hobit for the millionth time the other day and figured he should pick up another book, one that was a little different.
"Basically there's this boy's boarding school and the main character gets jealous over how easy everything comes to his best friend and stuff happens from there." He shrugged a little. "It's more interesting than I make it sound." He laughed before looking at the book Merry had with her. "And your book?"

Well that sounded interesting, actually. She had seen that book in some student's hands before, so perhaps she'd have to read it in the future. "Oh, Silence of the Lambs," Merry piped up cheerfully, turning the book around so Gabe could see it properly. It was a pretty well-known book, but... "The first book about Hannibal Lecter, I wanna read the Red Dragon and Hannibal after this, but the library said they were out of copies..."

Gabe looked at the book and shifted his eyes back up to Merry. Hmm, that gave him an idea. "Well I got a friend with a whole library of her own, once you finish that I can check and see if she has them." Honestly, Adriana was a much bigger book worm than him, and with how stinkin' rich they were(there wasn't any REAL reason Frankie should even be working with all the money his wife had) she had quite the collection. "Does that sound good to you?" He asked her as he smiled.

A broad smile spread across her face and she clutched her book tight again. "You mean it?" She exclaimed, face beaming at the thought of being able to read more. It was the fate of an introvert, perhaps, but Merry certainly didn't mind.

Gabe smiled more at her response. "Yeah, of course. She'd be more than happy to let'cha borrow some books as long as she gets them back." He didn't see that to be a problem, so chances of Adriana letting her read them were pretty high.

Merry let out a small squeal of happiness at the thought. "Thank you!" She'd have to thank Gabe's friend too, of course. But she was so happy! She was still beaming as she settled into the cushions of the couch. "I'll um, I'll let you get back to reading," she said, shyness returning. It was why she had come to the lounge in the first place after all. And it would be a little while longer before people started filtering in.
For now though, she wanted to read somewhere other than her room with Karina.

Gabe laughed and ruffled her hair some. "Not a problem kid." He'd just have to remind himself to talk to his violet haired friend at some point about it, shouldn't be too hard. With that he settled back into his seat and returned to his book, it looked like one of his favorite characters was going a little bit crazy.
As time went on more people started to come into the lounge. There was a kid on their laptop, and a small group to their right that were chatting away about something that Gabe wasn't really paying attention to. He was coming to the last chapter, and he really wanted to finish, but things were starting to get too distracting for him.

Merry quickly found herself absorbed into her own book, silently appalled by Jame Gumb's methods and his strange love of his dog as well as enthralled by Clarice's own leaps through the FBI hurdles as she chased him. And her heart nearly stopped before quickening with nerves as a Congresswoman cut a deal with one of the most notorious criminals. Merry was certain she was going to be played like a violin by Lecter, no matter how little he had to work with...
Before she could get much farther, though, voices started filtering into her (by this point, slightly gory) little world. There was a moment of mild panic before she looked over the spine of her book and saw that yes... the room had indeed started to fill up with people.
The little Tora was starting to grow distinctly uncomfortable.

After a few more moments of trying to read through the disruptions Gabe sighed and closed his book. Dammit, Phineas was being moved to the Infirmary AGAIN and he knew it was going to be an even bigger deal than before, but he couldn't even concentrate enough to read it.
He looked around the room before looking back at Merry. It looked like he wasn't the only one that was bothered by the commotion, though she seemed a little worse off than he was. "Hey," he started to get her attention. "wanna move somewhere else?" That might make her feel better.
