"I just... I wish I could do something to change them. I love my father and my sister... but I hate how they are and what they do. We've had great times, normal family times, but it was always overshadowed by jobs and sometimes just personal enjoyment... those times were the worst." Daemon sighed but continued to play. "Being good is easy when I have a reason to be." He added as an afterthought. He slowly started to pick up the tempo of the song while glancing over at Emma's smaller hands playing.

Emma nodded and continued to play, adjusting her own playing to keep match with his. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense. But I still think it's pretty cool, I really respect that." She was silent for a while as they played, listening to the music when a thought came to her. "What was the reason exactly? Your mom?" It seemed like a reasonable question to ask.

Daemon almost stumbled with her question but he managed to keep playing smoothly. He briefly thought about dodging the question or lying, but he didn't want to do that, so he stuck with the truth. "No, well, somewhat, but honestly... I just- I wanted to be good enough for- to be your friend." He admitted quietly, staring at the keys as he played. Before he met Emma, he was good for his mom, but after, well, he wanted more than anything to be good enough for her.

Emma wasn't so good at keeping with the melody as the other teen, slipping up on one quick note before going back to playing normally. Her cheeks turned a little pink at that, it was for her? She really shouldn't be so surprised, with how much he tried talking to her in the past it made sense, didn't mean she had actually seen that answer coming though.
She glanced over at him and smiled again. "Well if that's the case, then you succeeded." She felt comfortable with calling Daemon her friend now, all it really took was for her to give him a chance.

Daemon looked up at Emma and smiled. "Thank you." He said after a moment, unsure of how else to express his thoughts. Words had escaped him so he altered the tempo a little more, but kept it well enough to work with what Emma was playing. The tone turned into something much happier. He was more than happy that Emma had even come to talk to him in the first place, but to hear her say she considered him a friend, well that just made it better.

Emma giggled as he picked at the tempo a bit, going along with him with ease. He was definitely better now, and that made her happy in turn. She thought for a moment, deciding on whether or not to say what was on her mind. Eventually she went with it. "Hey, how would you like me to properly introduce you to my family?" She wasn't too sure what their initial reactions would be to seeing him at first, but she knew once they realized she trusted him then they would be fine with it.
It would take time, her mother was who she was worried about the most however. Depending on just how much Daemon looked like his father it could possibly bring back some bad memories for her. That was definitely something she was going to talk to Dad about first.

Daemon looked at Emma in surprise. "Really?" He'd always hoped he'd get the chance to talk with her parents. More than anything he wanted to apologize for what they had to go through because of his father. "You don't think Tyler's going to ostracize me again do you?" He asked, joking slightly.

Emma shook her head. "Don't worry about him, if my parents don't say something to him then I will." she laughed. "I know my dad won't mind obviously, it's... more of my mom I'm worried about..." she trailed off.
She quickly picked this up before Daemon said anything. "Nothing against you of course!" she said hurriedly. "Just, well you know..." A sigh. "You see, it turns out she has to take these pills everyday now. When we were kids she told us they were for headaches, but it turns out if she doesn't take them, any little thing would cause her to hallucinate..." She hated that, she hated that her mother was scared by whatever that monster did so much. She just didn't want something to happen with Daemon around to accidentally set her off, he didn't need anything else on his plate to worry about...

Daemon's eyes widened. He hadn't realized Emma's mother still had problems because of what his father did. The fact that she had hallucinations still was horrible, all the more reason why Daemon wanted to apologize, not for his father, but for himself, for tolerating his father for so long while knowing the horrible things he'd done.
"I'm sorry... I didn't know it was that bad... If it makes you feel better, I don't think I look much like my dad." He said, his lips quirking up into a small smile as he hoped to put Emma at ease.

Despite the seriousness of the topic, Emma giggled a little when he smiled. "Well that's good to hear." she said. "Either way, we can talk to my dad about it some time, he'll have a better idea of how to go through with the whole thing." Her father always knew what do to when it came to Mom, whether she was sick or upset or getting mad over something silly, he always seemed to know the right things to do and say for her. She'd always thought it was sweet, and someday she hoped to have a marriage that was just as perfect as theirs.

Daemon smiled. "Your dad is great. Even though he knew who my father was, he didn't treat me different from his other students. He's a fantastic teacher, I really look up to him." he said, looking back at the piano where his fingers still played. He admired Mr. King for a lot of things.

Emma's smile grew more at that. "He knows YOU didn't do anything wrong." Not willingly anyways. "There's no reason for him to treat you any different, regardless of what your family's background was." Seriously, how could someone with a brain NOT like her daddy? He's so funny and smart and fair. "My mom had a rough past before they met, but despite everything she'd been apart of or done he still loves her. Second chances seem to be a big thing for him." Especially with what she had heard about her Uncle Aiden, it was amazing how forgiving her dad was.

Daemon laughed lightly at Emma's enthusiasm over her father. "Well, I admire him all the same. You're lucky to have such a forgiving and loving father." He said sincerely as he played. Daemon wished his father was even remotely like Mr. King. Mr. King was a leading inspiration in Daemon's own life. He still didn't know what he wanted to do when he got finished with school, but everytime he talked to Mr. King he wanted to be a teacher like him. Daemon wanted to make a difference in someone's life.

Emma nodded happily. "Yeah, I love my daddy." She loved everyone in her family, it was hard NOT to, even with how crazy Anya and Perri could be, and how antisocial Roman was, everyone had their unique little qualities that she adored. "My whole family's great. Weird, but great." she giggled, taking her hands off of the piano for the moment as she sat them back on her lap. She looked back at Daemon. "You'll see, I'm sure given time you'll fit it just fine."

Daemon's heart skipped a beat as he heard her last comment and he couldn't help but smile. "Thank you." he said, too overwhelmed to say anything else at the moment. He kept smiling as he played a jovial tune, corresponding well with Emma's parts.
After a minute or two he spoke up again. "Not to ruin the good mood... but how's Perri?" he felt immensely guilty at that incident. He felt he should have stopped Artemis before she could say anything to the girl. He hoped his sister hadn't done any lasting damage, that family had enough of that to deal with.
