Emma frowned. "Well none of that was your fault." she told him. "You didn't have a choice, he made you do it at first, didn't he? Besides, if you could go through all of that and still be this nice guy, then Artemis has no excuse for who she is now." She wasn't use to being so opinionated like this, but seeing him so upset over the matter just mad her mad.

Daemon sighed. "Regardless, I did things that helped hurt, or kill, people. I was involved and I couldn't do anything about it." He dropped his hand from the piano keys. "I fought with him and Artemis today... I'm never going back. I told him I would never be like them. Even now they're probably out there killing someone." Daemon shook his head. "I can't even do anything to stop them. I can't do anything to help my Mom. I had to leave her with him. Artemis told my father that my Mom had talked to your dad and I'm terrified to find out what my father might say or do to her." He admitted.

Emma's eyes widen a little. She felt sorry for him, all this time he'd put up such a perfect act in front of people, she never would have guessed that things were this bad for him. "Isn't there something that could be done?" Though the more she thought about it, the less likely that seemed. If they were to get the police involved they would get Daemon and possibly his mother in trouble too for just being accomplices alone. She bit her lip. "Why doesn't your mom just... leave him?" She couldn't see how ANYONE would put up with such a monster like that for so long.

Daemon shook his head. "She won't... for some reason she still loves him. Granted, I've never seen him raise a hand to hurt her or anything, and I know he loves her, but he can do worse without physically hurting her. He's vile with his words and a master manipulator." He shook his head. "I don't know why she even got with him in the first place, or how she put up with how he raised Artemis." Daemon's lips quivered slightly. "My mom told me today that I was the only one keeping her sane... I hate that I had to leave her with them..."

Emma thankfully kept her jaw from dropping as she listened to him. She knew his man had done terrible things to her mother, things that still messed with her to this day, but the idea that he could possibly do something similar to someone he loved? And Daemon was caught right in the middle of it all, she was surprised he had managed to hold this in for so long. Now it was starting to break though, and he needed someone to be there for him...
Without another thought Emma pulled him close and hugged him tight. Daemon was a friend now, and if she couldn't do something to help the situation then she was going to try her hardest to at least make him feel better if she could.

Daemon stiffened at first in surprise then let himself relax as he hugged her back tightly. His head dropped to her shoulder as the rest of his tears finally fell. "I can't stop him. I can't stop Artemis, and I think she's going to be worse. I can't help my mom. All I could do was leave..." He said, his voice cracking as the tears fell onto Emma's shoulder.

Emma rubbed his back, letting him cry and talk it all out. "Well that's the first step, at least now you're away from the bad influences for certain. Something like this won't go away all at once, but we'll figure something out..." she spoke gently and started to shush him a little. "It'll be okay, I promise." And she never broke her promises, ever.

"I-I've busied myself with school, baseball, and the piano to keep away from him... but I don't know if I can keep it up. I need to do something... I need to help my mom. I need to help Artemis, but she's I feel like she's too far gone to save. I need to do something but I can't!" He felt useless. He was able to do whatever he set his mind to, but he couldn't help his own family, he couldn't change them like they needed. "I don't know what to do." He admitted helplessly, his voice cracking.

Emma frowned. "I know it's hard, but you'll get through it." Daemon was strong and he could do just about anything. "It's okay if you don't have all the answers right now, unfortunately something like this is going to have to take time." She hugged him a little tighter. "What you need to do right now is relax. You won't be able to do anything if you're a big puddle of stress."
She thought for a second. "Do me a favor and think of something that makes your happiest, it sounds lame but bare with me. Think of hanging out with your mom, like it was just another day, or think about why you left in the first place." Hopefully that would get him to calm down at least a little, anything to get him to stop crying.

Daemon pulled back and rubbed his eyes with his sleeve to clear his face. Think of something that makes him happiest... He briefly thought about the time his Mom took him to the abandoned amusement park. They'd spent the whole day exploring, making up wild stories, and just messing around. His lips quirked up as he remembered it.
Another memory came to mind and he turned back to the piano then gently placed his fingers on the keys. "My Mom bought me my first keyboard when I was five. She's always had a love for music, she plays guitar, so when we were out shopping she saw it and bought it for me. I remember banging on the keys, it made an awful sound." he chuckled. "When I got tired of the sound, I started playing with the individual keys. I spent months getting used to the sound and feel of each and every key while my mom taught me how to read music. After I'd learned how to read the music, I started to try out the different songs. Everything after that is history, I just kept playing and I haven't stopped." He smiled softly while looking at the comforting black and white keys.

Emma listened to his story, giggling a little at the end. "That's cute." she said as she looked at the keys herself. "When I was little I use to sit on my dad's lap and watch him play, sometimes I'd interrupt him by hitting a few of the keys myself and he'd just laugh." she smiled at the memory. "Then after a while I decided that I wanted to play like him, and he started teaching me." she rested a hand on the keys gently. She looked back at Daemon and smiled a little more. "Funny how little stuff like that came mean so much, huh?"

Daemon nodded while smiling. His fingers ghosted over the keys. "Thanks to my mom I have a passion over something worthwhile," As opposed to the passions of his father. "And if it weren't for the piano, I'd probably be like my sister, or worse since I'm older." He shook his head to dismiss the thoughts.
"I think I'm happiest when I'm seated at a piano..." He said quietly.

Emma smiled and looked back to the piano. "I can tell, and I don't blame you." She guided her own fingers across the keys. "Music soothes the soul, sometimes we can use it to express what we can't with words." She wasn't amazing at the piano by any stretch of the word, by when she was feeling down it always helped her do just sit down and play for a little while, she understood Daemon completely.

Daemon nodded and let his fingers press down on the keys. He started out with a slow tune, playing only the right side higher notes since Emma sat on the left with the low notes. "I've always thought I was good with words... but I was only good with the right ones. I've never opened up, especially like this, to anyone. Rumors have gone around about my family, but nobody really knows... Nobody knows how bad Artemis really is. She's more than a bully at school, she enjoys hurting people, physically most of all, and having to sit back and not being able to do anything about that... it's not easy."

Emma listened to what Daemon was playing for a moment before playing something on her side to that would match rather nicely. "... I won't lie and tell you that I understand or know what that's like, because we both know that I don't. But what I can say is that none of that's your fault, it's her's and your father's. Once someone's made a choice to go down a certain road it's hard, and sometimes nearly impossible to convince them otherwise. Like you," she smiled. "you decided to be good despite what they thought and nothing they could do would change your mind, and I think that's pretty amazing." She had to hand it to him, with all he had had to put up with all his life, she really was impressed that he turned out the way he was now.
