Kaji sat in the center of the garden, perched upon a bench and drawing away into a sketch pad. Normally he didn't bother going out to do such things, but the Ookami really seemed to be lacking in inspiration lately. He had so many pieces due for his classes, but no matter what he did they always turned out sort of bland and detachted. No matter what he did Kaji couldn't really tap into whatever it was that made his peers so successful.
The teen grumbled to himself, giving up on his current drawing and starting a new page. His frustration was rising, but he couldn't give up. He had to get a degree to have any hope of getting out of this place...

Jamie walked through the garden, whistling merrily. There were few times where Jamie was solemn, and now was not one of them. How could it be? He had just passed some street performers and listened to some very lovely acoustic guitar covers just a little behind him near the fountain. There was still a crowd lingering around all the performers and it really was one of those days that seemed wonderful both inside and out. One of the songs from a girl in the group of performers was still stuck in his head, and as he spotted the now-familiar red-head of Kaji on a bench the words seemed oh-so fitting.
He pulled out a small sheet of paper (he had intended to get a caricature today from the group of performers, but had gotten decidedly sidetracked) and a pen from is pockets and scribbled down his number. As corny as this was going to be, he hoped it would at least make Kaji pull another adorable face. He cleared his throat quietly and hoped the lessons his grandfather had given him about singing would finally pay off before starting to make his way over.
"Hey, I just met you~!" He sang as he twirled over, "and this is crazy," He grinned and slid into the spot next to Kaji. "But here's my number~" He flicked the slip of paper (torn from the larger sheet) so it was between his index and middle finger and sticking out toward Kaji whilst he slung an arm around the other redhead's shoulder. "So call me maybe?" The grin was bright on Jamie's face.

There was an inital shock in reaction to the sudden serenade. The Ookami froze, eyes wide with surprise before his brain finally processed what was happening. Upon recognizing the ungodly familar tune, Kaji little a little inward sigh. Honestly this was just ridiculous, even by Jamie's standards.
Thankfully the would-be blush that threatened to crawl across the Ookami's face was stalled by the piece of paper suddenly being offered to him. Kaji merely glanced at it before shifting his gaze to the Irishman's face. "Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?" The tone sounded more flat than irritated, which was overall a pretty good sign. But still... That... Well it was pretty damn cheesy that was for sure.

Jamie's face fell and he slumped just a bit. "Aww... You didn't like it?" He asked childishly. "I did it just for you, too..." And he had. Jamie actually couldn't recall even one time in which he had sung for anyone else. It wasn't exactly a hidden skill (as anyone who had heard him showering could attest to) but he had never actually serenaded anyone.

"Honestly, you're just..." The Ookami paused. He glowered for a few moments longer before taking the paper and putting it in his pocket. There was an attempt to make the action seem reluctant, but it was only on the surface. It didn't take a genius to figure that much out. "I'm not sure why you even bother," Kaji muttered, leaning back and crossing his arms with a permanent scowl. Everything about Jamie truly puzzled him.

"Because I REALLY like you." Jamie piped up sincerely, keeping his arm around the redhead seeing as he hadn't been shoved away just yet. "And I can be a spoiled brat who will cry beg and scream until I get what I want." He grinned at Kaji. It was true... somewhat. He had very little shame and would certainly beg and cry in public, but screaming was a little low on his list. It hurt his throat too much and usually just wound up not working at all.
There was a warm glow in his heart that Kaji hadn't just tossed aside the number, though. It was another step in the right direction at least.

"Really mature of you," Kaji muttered. He turned his head to the side as he spoke, trying to hide the sudden feeling of embarrassment that had surfaced in blush form. The Ookami was more confused than anything else (Jamie had to be kidding, or maybe he was really bad at using sarcasm). People didn't just "taking a sudden liking" to people like Kaji. He was absolutely awful at first impressions... as well as second, third, and any other impressions that followed. Needless to say he was more than a bit puzzled.

Jamie laughed a little. "What, ya want me to lie?" He asked rhetorically. A moment later his eyes caught sight of the sketchbook that the other ookami held. "Hey! Your sketchbook, right? Can I see?" He asked imploringly. He had wanted to see Kaji's drawings for quite a while now, and the opportunity was right in front of him so he wasn't going to pass it up!

It was at this moment that the Ookami suddenly recalled that he had been horrendously drawing a few moments ago. He promptly slammed it shut, hiding what he had considering mediocre atrocities from view. Kaji wasn't exactly ashamed of his work, but he knew it was nothing impressive. And frankly, no one needed to see it besides himself and his professor.
Which was probably why he was going to have a hard time being a successful artist.
"I don't think so." Kaji nonchalantly moved the Irishman's arm away as he spoke. Normally he didn't really care about people seeing his stuff, but Jamie was different somehow. Some little part of him deep down inside wanted his work to seem impressive, which the redhead knew it most certainly was not.

Jamie pouted as the sketchbook was pulled away. There was no way that the drawings were THAT bad if Kaji was in school for ART. "But ya said that Sky and I could see 'em." He wheedled childishly. "Remember, back at the mall?" He recalled SOMETHING like that being mentioned. Something about being able to see Kaji's art.

Shit. He had sort of agreed to that, hadn't he? Although it wasn't a super-important promise or anything, and it probably wouldn't be a big deal if he broke it. But...
Kaji shifted his gaze back over to his clanmate. He silently glared at the Ookami for a long moment, refusing to meet his eyes. There was a risk of the Irishman using the "puppy-eyes" routine on him, and Kaji refused to allow himself to give in.
Honestly, was there any risk in showing him the art? No. The redhead was entirely detached from his subject matter. He wasn't like others who willingly threw their pain and insecurities on paper (the Ookami wasn't sure he would ever be able to get to that point). So it wasn't like there was anything secret in his sketch book... It was just... bland. At least in his opinion.

Jamie turned on low-powered puppy eyes in preparation for more resistance. "Please?" He tried, moving so he was a bit below Kaji's eye-line and was looking up pleadingly. "I promise I won't laugh, if that's what you're afraid of... I'm sure it's better than anything I could do..."

"I don't give a fuck about your opinion, for your information," the redhead snapped, turning his head away from his clanmate's face violently. He simultaneously shoved the sketchbook into the Irishman's chest, refusing to look at him as he did so. "If you want to see it so bad, fine. Take it." Kaji scowled. There wasn't much in there besides still life drawings anyway. He'd done a sketch of Yuna and a few pointless doodles, but other wise there wasn't much to it.

Jamie jerked back a bit at the violent sketchbook offering... He hadn't been THAT annoying, had he? At least he got to see the sketches, but... He hoped he hadn't made Kaji SERIOUSLY angry with him. He opened the sketchbook gently, as if attempting to apologize to it about its owner's rough treatment mere moments earlier.
He had to admit, the drawings were all good... But... there was just a little bit of... listlessness. Of lifelessness to it all... Technically accurate for certain, Kaji had skill. He just needed to put... something MORE into the drawings, even Jamie could see that much. He 'hmmm'ed a bit in thought, then perused the doodles. It was a little odd that drawings with much less planning looked more vibrant...

Despite his uncaring composure, Kaji could feel his confidence slowly slipping with every second that passed. Where there should have been detachment, there was a slowly rising level of embarrassment. Which made no sense, because he didn't care at all about what Jamie thought (or so he told himself).
It suddenly occurred to the Ookami that there was one particular sketch in the back he'd rather Jamie not see. It was the only attempt he had ever made at drawing his mother (a bad choice within itself considering how deeply he had buried her existence). He had given up without any of the details drawn; there was nothing but eyes and an empty skeletal face. Kaji kept meaning to throw it away, but somehow he never got around to it.
