Jamie paused as he came across the sketch of Kaji's mother... not that he knew WHO it was, he just knew that it was... better. There was something a bit difference. There was a certain amount of feeling that was attached to the picture... and it made Jamie pause on the page... "I like this one." He commented as he looked a little closer. "Why didn't you finish it?" It didn't look quite finished, at least... sometimes Jamie had a hard time telling the difference.

Kaji glowered when his clanmate happened upon the drawing. "Because it's trash and I scrapped it," he answered quickly. That wasn't the real reason, but it was the one the Ookami constantly gave himself as well. Besides, the entire concept of it was a lie. His mother had never looked quite that happy. She had always been sad, even when she was smiling. The drawing just needed to be thrown out.

Jamie looked at it a little more. "Well..." He said. "If you don't want it, can I have it?" He really did like it, and he kind of wanted a memento of Kaji. He doubted the other redhead would let him have it, but it never hurt to ask.

There was a long, awkward moment of hesitation. "No," the Ookami decided after a moment of deliberation. Any other drawing her would carelessly give away, but not something so... revealing. He didn't even have photos of his mother at this point; he didn't need any sketches floating around either. He would crumple it up, throw it away, and push all the memories away like he always did. Of course he couldn't explain any of this to Jamie, so the simple "no" would have to do.

Jamie could work this, despite the refusal to part with the drawing. "Well in that case," He conceded. "You have to promise that at some point soon, you'll draw something just for me." He smiled brightly and passed back the now-closed sketchbook. "And to sweeten the deal, I'll even take you to get some ice cream. There's a great vendor back that way." He pointed in the direction he had come from, back toward the crowd of performers and onlookers.

"I..." The Ookami's perpetual scowl deepened. Was there really any use protesting at this point? The Irishman always seemed to win when it came to these sorts of things. It wasn't fair; that people as carefree and persuasive as Jamie existed, while people like Kaji where left to fumble with any and all social interactions. "Fine," he conceded, crossing his arms over his chest. "But only because I know you won't stop bothering me if I don't say yes."

Jamie restrained the urge to hug Kaji and make him even more uncomfortable and just fistpumped instead. "Awesome!" He exclaimed as he leaped off of the bench and extended a hand to Kaji. "I swear, it's the best ice cream I've ever had. You'll like it." He assured, a childish smile on his face.

Kaji hummed thoughtlessly in response and turned to put his drawing supplies back into his bag. He half-glanced at the other Ookami, initially deciding to ignore him and stand up on his own. However, at the last moment, the redhead accepted the out-stretched hand and pulled himself upright. However, as if to make a point that he would not keep holding Jamie's hand, Kaji quickly shoved his hands into the front pouch of his hoodie.
"Lead the way," he half-murmured, awkwardly glancing in the other direction. He didn't know why it felt like there was a likely blush coming on, but he certainly didn't want anyone to see it if there was.

Jamie put his own hands in the pockets of his pants. He'd make the offer when they got closer to the growing crowd... He didn't want to lose the younger Ookami in the mass of onlookers. With that thought in mind he strode toward the crowd with his companion. "If you want we can watch some of these performers too." He decided to talk to keep Kaji involved. As much of an introvert as Kaji seemed to be, Jamie needed noise, even if it was just from one other person.
"There's some good acts among 'em." He continued, hoping that the chatter might make Kaji relax. "Jugglers, clowns, musicians... I think there's an acting troupe around too... and then there are some dancers and I think I saw a magician and a few artist..." He cracked a fresh grin.
The crowd was near now and he pulled a hand out of his pocket and held it out to Kaji. "I don't wanna lose ya..." He said, keeping the palm of his hand up and at waist-height. He hand found that little things like that usually made people relax better by letting them feel in-control. It was a neat trick, and had Jamie enough money he would have liked to go to school and study psychology or sociology to learn more about what made people tic... But that was a mere dream at this rate. Jamie refused to take out loans.

The Ookami wavered for a moment, quietly battling his introverted psyche. In the end, however, he complied, hesitantly weaving his fingers through his clanmate's. Kaji quickly fought to extinguish the heat rising to his face. (Honestly, why was he blushing all the damn time? It made no sense!) His physical attempts to keep himself from looking like a tomato initially made it hard to respond to Jamie's words, but he managed to swallow the flush in his cheeks eventually.
"I didn't know this sort of stuff went on here," Kaji replied quietly.

Jamie helped entwine their fingers as he began weaving them through the crowd. "Yeah, it's not often this all happens, but there are a few snippets in the paper about events in the city..." He checked his mental calender, and sure enough, it appeared to be the first Saturday of the month. "But usually there are things that go on every first Saturday around the city, I like finding 'em on my own though."
Translation: He didn't have enough steady income to take out a proper subscription to the paper that advertised for it if he wanted to have enough free money to do things like this. He figured it was a good trade off though.
Soon enough they emerged on the other side of the crowd and Jamie pulled Kaji over to the stand that was selling ice-cream. "Pick yer poison." He said cheerily.

Kaji briefly looked over the different flavors the vendor offered. It suddenly struck him that this was oddly starting to feel like a date... but the redhead shoved the notion away for fear of even more embarrassment. The Ookami turned his attention back to the ice cream. He almost never treated himself to things like this, so he wasn't really sure what to pick.
"I'll just have whatever you're getting," he decided. That was the easiest option.

Jamie blinked and shrugged. "Okay then. Two double scoops of chocolate and strawberry! Waffle cones, please." He ordered to the vendor who smiled and nodded and scooped out the ice cream for them. Jamie passed the first one finished to Kaji and took the second one after handing over the money. He didn't want to let go of the other redhead's hand until Kaji ripped his own appendage free. He grinned his thanks at the vendor and started off.
"So do ya wanna watch some of the acts or what?" He asked cheerily as he licked at his cone. Gosh this stuff was good...

"...Sure." The Ookami's face was passive, but inside he was beating himself up. Damn his awkward shyness! Damn it straight to hell! Honestly, why couldn't Kaji even function in the simplest of social situations?! It was pathetic. The redhead nonchalantly began to eat the ice cream so as to prevent any unnecessary words from escaping him.

Jamie finished off his ice cream while they watched a set of acrobats do their act, and it wasn't too long before he had to reluctantly disentangle his fingers from Kaji's hand. "I'll be RIGHT back." He said. "Don't move, please?" He didn't want to have to go Kaji-hunting, and with that he headed for the bathrooms near the picnic area. Hopefully Kaji wouldn't wind up and get himself lost while he was gone...
