Cross strolled into the Wok with Sam behind her. Once her stomach realized that it was going to get food, it started to get worked up and growl louder. She chuckled as they reached the hostess. "Table for 2." she said to the short blond hostess. The girl nodded and gave a small smile then told them to follow her.
Cross was basically chanting chicken fingers in her head as they were seated. Her leg bounced beneath the seat as she ordered her Dr. Pepper to drink. The hostess turn to Sam then to ask his drink. Cross was already impatient and ready to order but she put on a smile to hide her discourse.

"I'll take a sarsaparilla soda, please," Sam told the hostess. It wasn't the best at the Wok, but it'd do. When the drinks arrived, the server asked if they were ready to order, looking at Sam as if expecting him to order first. He instead gestured to Cross. "Ladies first," he said, noticing how hungry she looked.

Cross sighed with relief when the girl came back to take their order. "Chicken fingers and fries please. Can I get a bottle of A1 too?" she asked. No matter what people said about her steak sauce, she didn't care. She loved that stuff and ate it on most everything. It was ten times better than ketchup. She took a long drink of her soda and looked to Sam, waiting for him to order. The quicker the better.

"I'll have the barbecue bacon cheeseburger, also with French fries," Sam said. "If I could get some cheese sauce for those, it'd be much appreciated." The server nodded and turned to attend to another table. Sam looked at Cross, an eyebrow quirked with bemusement. "You could have mentioned that you were that hungry earlier in our conversation at the garden, you know. It really isn't very healthy to let yourself get that hungry; doing so can cause severe overeating because your body believes itself to be in mortal peril of starvation."

Cross snorted and shook her head, suppressing a laugh. "Nah, I didn't even notice I was hungry until we started talking about the food. Once I have chicken fingers on the mind there's no turning back. Besides, this happens a lot, I'm quite used to it actually. People know to stay away when I'm hungry or else." she chuckled and took another drink. It really wasn't helping considering it was nothing but carbonated sugar but it tasted so good!

"I'll keep that in mind for the next time I experience the urge to put my hands near you when you're hungry," Sam responded, taking a drink of his own soda. This excursion aside, he himself was generally pretty particular about his eating schedule. Because of this meticulousness, he could maintain a healthy (albeit not athletic) physique and still enjoy his favorite snacks.

Cross laughed and chomped her teeth down teasingly. "Afraid I'd bite?" she asked smirking. When she was little she had bit someone, but that was because they asked for it. "I'll have you know, I don't resort to something that drastic because of my hunger. It's more of a crazy person look that goes on." she replied with a shrug. She was slightly chewing on her straw and drinking when she realized it was already empty. "Well dang." she muttered perplexed. She looked at the glass with narrowed eyes wondering where it all went. She was sure she didn't drink that much of it.

"You look as though you're surprised it's gone that fast," Sam remarked. "I suppose it's hard for one to monitor their liquid intake while conversing, but surely you've noticed that you've been quaffing that Dr. Pepper as though it were actually capable of hydrating you." Without thinking, he completely skipped over her comment about biting. It was more interesting to see the look on her face, like someone had stolen her drink from right in front of her. Perhaps Sam should have gotten out more in his younger years.

Cross lifted her chin and set the cup back down in front of her. She could have swore there was more still in it. "It's got some water in it so it does some hydrating. The cup made it look as if there was more in it." she muttered the last part and glared back down at the cup. The Pixie waitress needed to hurry up. She wasn't in the best of moods when hungry. She decided to continue to glare at the cup until the girl refilled it.

While Cross was busy glaring at her glass, she completely missed the waitress entering the area. Sam signalled to her silently, deciding to try something that might lift his new friend's spirits. The waitress saw his signal and went to get Cross's refill.
"Say, Cross," Sam began. "I'd wager that our server is so competent, she'll bring you a refill without you having to ask. I'll bet she doesn't even have to look to know you need a refill."

Cross looked up at Sam from under her eyelashes and narrowed her eyes. "I'd say you think you're pretty swift then. This isn't my first rodeo Sammy." she said with a smirk. "I see a lot more than you'd think." She pushed her glass to the said where the waitress was coming. The girl refilled her drink so Cross offered her a small smile before drinking it greedily. The pixie waitress stopped and placed the pitcher on the table. "Thanks." Cross said grinning. "Ahh sweet relief. Now Mr. Big shot, you think you'd get away with trying to bet me over something so silly and easy to disprove?"

"'Wager' being a metaphorical term, as I'm sure you understand," Sam defended. "I'm not a gambling man; I merely suspecting that pulling such a parlor trick might ease your discomfort. If you'd like, I can display one that is a little more advanced." He had neglected to mention it before, but magic was one of his stranger interests. It contrasted with the way in which he thought, at least on the surface, but every trick had a scientific algorithm or method behind it, and that, Sam liked.

Cross raised her eyebrows and sat back in her chair. "Wager, bet, same difference. You said them both." she replied. "What kind of parlor trick?" she asked curiously. She'd never been one to be into magic or anything but it still fascinated her. Right now she really needed the distraction, the kitchen was taking forever on her food so the distraction would be welcome. "Let's see what you've got Sammy." she said grinning.

"Right, then," said Sam as he retrieved his deck of cards from one of the spacious pockets in his jeans. He gave it a good shuffle, being sure to place the four and five of hearts discreetly at the top. "If you'd be so kind as to draw two cards from the top, I'll demonstrate what kind of parlor trick I mean."

Cross shrugged and leaned across the table then took the top two cards. "So do I look at them?" She asked looking at the top of the two cards. She'd never been into card tricks, she saw them as stupid. Hopefully Sam could change that view.
