"Duly noted," the Ookami grumbled bitterly. There was a spark of anger still lurking behind her wide, open eyes, but the hardness had faded. Her brief flare of rebellion had puttered out once her brain reminded her that a person like Karter wasn't someone to take lightly. Yukiko quickly fell back into caution, although it was more careful this time than it was nervous.

Karter noted the change in demeanor, he also took care to remember the approximate amount of needling it took to get her to respond like that, the information could come in handy later. The shift from her earlier level of caution to this new level was also taken into consideration, she was reacting well. Perhaps all Yuki had needed in the first place was someone to point out the obvious to her. Interesting interesting interesting.
Karter soon polished off his meal and took a swig of Sprite, keeping his body relaxed. If Yuki assumed this was an everyday occurance for him (intimidation and mind games) she'd be wary like he wanted her to be when around people that approached Theo. After all, if it was commonplace for him to mess with peoples heads, it might indicate exactly how often Karter had to step in on behalf of Theo.

Yukiko was very much aware of her companions silent observations; his gaze caused her skin to prickle uncomfortably. She kept a calm and upheld her poker face while picking off the last of the tiny order of fries, determined not to show any discomfort. While she knew for a fact that Karter had the upper hand, the Ookami wasn't about to throw all her weakness at him at once.
"Okay," she murmured, folding her hands neatly on the table, "there are a few details I think we need to work out if this partnership is going to run smoothly. For one, what happens to Theo when you 'give up control'?" Yukiko spoke slowly and deliberately. Even if she didn't like Karter, she wanted to do the best job she could at keeping her friend safe. "Is he unconscious or...?"

Karter thought for a moment. "It's a little hard to describe..." He said, chewing on the straw of his drink. "In a way, yes. He's not fully conscious of what's happening around him... but it's more like a trance. I can imprint ideas and images onto him... though I'm sure things have leaked through our subconscious, hence why I'll be keeping you around to distract him." He took a sip of soda. "If I wanted to and was creative enough, I could weave an entire month for him, let him wake up the next day and he'd think nothing of it." Although that would be time-consuming, it wouldn't be TOO difficult. Most people didn't remember the mundane ordinary things that happened to them. It was rather easy to create fuzzy false-memories for Theo... as long as the more innocent half kept his routine, that is...

The Ookami nodded curtly to show she understood. It seemed like a tricky situation, but Yukiko was a creative girl. She was relatively confident she could spin a convincing yarn if questions arose. Although she would probably feel guilty for lying to what was probably her closest friend. But if it was to protect him... Yukiko supposed she could swallow her conscious and tell a few falsehoods.
"That should work out fine then," she murmured flatly.

Karter frowned. "If it's lying your concerned about he won't mind. It's better than what's already been done to him, and I'm sure if the need ever arose for you to explain, he'd forgive you." There wasn't a doubt in his mind, after all, no matter how separate and entity he had become he had once been Theo, and he liked to think that he knew his lighter half better than anyone.

"If you say so." The phrase was uncertain by any means. For once she found herself agreeing with Karter, at least in that he probably knew Theo better than anyone else. People often used the expression "to get inside another's" head, but the boy (man? She wasn't quite sure what to refer to him as at this point) across from her had managed to do it quite literally. "I suppose you know him best." Though that doesn't nessqcaripy mean you know what's best for him, the Ookami mused silently.

Karter nodded and finished off his soda. "Well, if there's nothing else you feel is necessary to discuss, I'll be taking my leave." He pulled out a wallet and pulled out enough money to cover his portion of the bill, with a little extra to help Yuki cover her part and a little of the tip. He didn't tip exceedingly well, though. But really, what would you expect from a man who murdered people? He placed the money down on the table and glanced to Yuki to check and see if she had any other questions or issues.

Yukiko watched Karter go quietly. When he paused, she turned to look at him, green eyes locked on him cautiously. "You still have one more question," she murmured, not sure what she expected the result to be.

Karter paused, then, figuring that it WAS a truth-required question, asked Yuki his final question. "What is Theo to you?" He offered no examples, that would be hinting to her what he wanted to hear, and he didn't want to indicate that. He did elaborate just a bit, though, just so Yuki wouldn't give him a puzzled look. "You've said you care about him very much, so what is he to you?"

The answer should have been easy. He was a friend. An close, valued friend. But Yukiko had to wonder... Would it be any friend that the Ookami would go so far for? Probably not, ignoring murder wasn't exactly an easy thing to do. So just what was he? She could say that Theo was like a brother to her, but it didn't really feel like that... What she felt towards Theo and what she felt towards her over abundance of brothers was very different.
"I don't know," Yukiko admitted sheepishly. She did have to answer honestly. "He means a lot to me... But I don't know in what way. Does that make sense?"

Karter nodded after a moment. "It makes enough sense." He said, turning and giving a wave over his shoulder to the Ookami before exiting the restaurant. He wanted to go punch something, maybe She-Hulk would be out and about today...
