"I guess not," she murmured with a half-hearted shrug. Maybe it wasn't all that important. The point was that he was there, as a part of Theo, but as a whole other person entirely. It was probably best not to dwell on the details.
"As far as protecting Theo goes, I'm sticking with the inference that you've... offed people in the process..." Yukiko shifted awkwardly in her seat. "Are the police, you know... looking for you at all? I hope you're covering your tracks well..." Maybe it wasn't a worthy question as far as back story went, but it was a genuine concern the Ookami had.

Karter scowled. "If you hadn't TRIPPED they wouldn't be..." He said to her, that would jog the Ookami's memory of the corpse she had unearthed. He was intending to dispose of it properly, but by the time the opportunity had arisen it was already uncovered and taken by the police. The name Yukiko Oshiro and a Jamie Phoenix had appeared in the papers a day later, it wasn't hard to put two and two together. "But they're not anywhere NEAR close, I promise you."

It took a couple of minutes for Yukiko to realize what her Tora companion was getting at. With the knowledge there came a growing look of horror in her eyes. Her hand snaked her way up to her mouth, although this time she wasn't shaking. Disgust falling into some lesser emotion, the green-eyed Ookami's gazed narrowed.
"God. That was you...? I didn't think..." Well, she hadn't thought anyone was capable of that level of violence, but there was a body to prove it. "That's kind of overkill. Jesus, do you do that to everyone that looks at Theo funny?" Quickly she added, "and that wasn't my fifth question."

Karter snorted. "No, THAT I do to lecherous bastards or thugs." He never should have picked JAPAN of all places to take Theo to. There were WAY too many perverted old men here... And creepy young men... "If they look at him funny I don't care, but if they TOUCH him I'm going to break some bones." Vitals ones, usually. Like spines...

Yukiko opened her mouth to protest but quickly fell silent. She could find no decent way to argue with him. True, she didn't condone any of what he was doing, but she had a feeling that Karter found his own reasoning flawless. Any attempts at arguing would seem feeble in comparison.
"All I'm wondering is if that will hurt Theo in the long run," the Ookami mused quietly. "I'm not saying you'll be caught, there are plenty of people in the city who have gotten away with worse, but if anyone were to say something... They'd lock him up. Maybe not in prison, but maybe in an institution." She frowned, leaning back and away from her companion. "I don't want that to happen to him."

Karter frowned. "Neither do I. Luckily I've managed to avoid that up until now, and you're going to help me keep avoiding it." She would, of course. Yuki seemed wholeheartedly dedicated to protecting Theo. If that meant lying like a Las Vegas betting table, Karter had no doubt she'd do it. "He doesn't openly question the memories I put in, and when he does he's usually distracted a bit later. When he looks like he's thinking on it, I want you to distract him. Subtly." Theo was a smart kid, Yuki would HAVE to be subtle...

"I'm assuming this means we're in cahoots now." Yukiko sighed softly, although it was without melancholy. "While I don't agree with everything you're doing I don't see how I can stop you. If protecting Theo means helping you then I'll do it."
She paused, her eyes training on the waitress who had arrived to take their orders. The woman smiled, asking if she could get them anything. The Ookami murmured something about a water and some fries. Suddenly her stomach. wasn't feeling up to a full meal.

Karter nodded. Partners in crime, so to speak. He didn't expect Yuki to kill anyone, but he did expect her to keep looking out for his other half and keep him from learning of Karter's existence.
"I'll take a Sprite and some chicken strips with a side of fries." He said, sounding bored to drive the waitress off faster. It worked, and he watched the woman scuttle off towards the double-doors leading to the Wok's kitchen before returning his eyes to Yuki.

The Ookami blankly returned his gaze for a long, awkward moment, her thoughts swirling so chaotically even she didn't know what they were. Falling victim to yet another nervous tic, Yukiko absentmindedly fiddled with one of the multiple rings that adorned her fingers.
"So I get to ask one more question, right?" She didn't wait for a response and, somewhat embarrassedly, asked, "Do I make Theo happy? As far as you know... Anyway..."

Karter was tempted to go with the 'that's two questions' loophole and NOT answer this one... But that would be being more of an asshole than Yukiko rightly deserved. Besides, his own discomfort was irrelevant if it kept Theo happy and safe...
After a moment, he nodded. "Yes... You make him very happy." He muttered, glancing at the table, obviously dissatisfied with the answer he had promised to give.

The fluttering happiness Yukiko got in her gut when hearing Karter's answer was somewhat lessened by his somewhat apparent displeasure. Did it make him upset that her presence made Theo happy? Was he... jealous? Well... it made sense, the Ookami supposed. Karter had been working much longer at securing his other half's happiness, but Theo could never be aware of that. Yukiko could do much less and still make a bigger impact visibly simply because she was in plain sight.
"I got to ask you five questions. If we're going to be working together, I guess it's only fair that you can ask me five questions too." She paused for a beat. "That is if you really want to know anything about me. In comparison to you I'm pretty uninteresting."

Karter, while not prepared for this offer, didn't seem the slightest bit surprised. He took a moment to ponder his first question before asking it. "You haven't mentioned your family much around Theo... Why is that?" He guessed that it was for a reason similar to why Theo hadn't mentioned his own family, but he was keeping that thought to himself for the moment.

"My father left us when I was younger," Yukiko explained softly. "It was a few years before I was drafted and it essentially destroyed me. My mom and I pretty much hate each other, and I don't speak to my brothers. He was really the only person that got me. It sounds sad, but he was really my only friend and he just left." She shrugged, but there was a sort of strain to her voice. "It's just hard to talk about sometimes."
The Ookami left out most of the details- such as the nights she cried herself to sleep wondering what she had done to drive her "daddy" away; or, as she got older, the moments where she'd catch herself wondering if anyone would really care if she just crawled into a corner and died (or how tempting that concept had seemed at times).

Karter nodded, filing away the information before firing off another question. "Alright." He said, "What's your opinion on Theo, and on me? I expect you to be brutally honest on this one, so don't disappoint me." He leaned back in his seat again, making a bit of a routine out of it. Back, then forward, then back again...

Yukiko toyed with her rings as she spoken, keeping her eyes on her hands so as not to be deterred in her answer by eye contact. "I think Theo deserves much better than life has dealt him. He's shy and it takes awhile to get him to open up but once he does he is the best people that I have ever met. He seems a little naive sometimes, but I think his sweetness makes up for it. He has a very good heart, and I care a lot about him." The Ookami's eyes flickered upward momentarily.
"As for you, I'm not really sure what to think. You do anything you can to protect Theo, which is admirable, but my moral compass is very displeased the killing bit." A shrug. "I don't think your right and wrong fit in with everyone elses', which makes sense because you're not like everyone else. I think that makes you kind of dangerous, possibly categorized under psychopath. You also strike me as a bit of a sadist... I guess I'll have to see as time goes on." Another shrug.
