"Yes, and if you lose you die, kinda makes it difficult to improve, doesn't it?" Frankly, Mina didn't want to die even if her primary defense was usually intended to kill. A tad hypocritical, maybe, but Mina rarely intended to slay someone... 'Rarely' being the key word there...

"That's why you have practice fights," Locke explained further. "Like the one we had. You can lose and know that you still have improvements to make." Mina's implication actually managed to make the albino laugh. "Figures you'd assume that one goes into a real fight without being absolutely prepared. Only foolhardy rookies do such things." However, the taller Tora couldn't blame Mina for her point of view. How did you know what a real fight was, and how to prepare for it, if you weren't a fighter?

Mina sighed. "But how do you know if it's a real fight? What if someone else thinks it's a real fight and the other doesn't?" The unspoken, 'What if you kill someone?' was in the air, even if Mina hadn't said it. It was probably something the Tora would never understand, though that definitely wouldn't stop her from trying.

"Simple," answered Locke. "You take turns in a practice fight. In a real fight, all combatants are rushing in simultaneously and showing absolutely no mercy." What the albino forgot to explain was that you knew turns were taken if your opponent stopped after attacking you once, but Mina could figure that out... right?

Mina smirked. "So if I need an example just walk into an angry gang's lair?" She supposed she could try and take this with a bit of humor. She wasn't paid enough to take everything so seriously and dammit if Locke wasn't wearing on her last nerve. She wanted to go home and just sleep.

"Yeah, basically," Locke confirmed. "Not that those are particularly dignified, but suitable examples nonetheless." The albino took a moment to observe Mina. She was looking frayed at best, and the taller Tora suddenly felt a pang of guilt for being so persistent. "Um, hey..." hesitated Locke, trying to swallow most of her pride. "I'm... I'm sorry about all this mess. I didn't know you hated me that much."

Mina gave a shrug. "No worries, alright?" She said, one hand on her hip the other combing through her hair. A nervous tic she had picked up from Egil, damn the lovable Swede to hell. "It not just you, more like a lot of things, mostly it's just not my week..."
Her hand dropped. "Look, I'm willing to forget the fight, or the skirmish, or whatever. I mean, it's not like I want you completely gone or anything..." She sighed, this was NOT going how she wanted. "I mean, you're irritating, yeah, but you get Toru off my back and you're not that bad, really..." Another sigh. This week certainly wasn't her week.

"I suppose I could've been better with the whole irritating bit..." admitted Locke, looking down. "Maybe... maybe we could just hang out sometime... Y'know, to keep me outta your hair?" Probably a bad line, but the albino was trying to make things less strained between her and Mina.

Mina nodded, giving another tired grin. "I think I could live with that, even though I have a feeling that Satoru's gonna be pissed about losing his free entertainment." She grinned. "Serves 'im right, I'd say." Especially since if she was providing any entertainment, she better be getting paid overtime for it.

"Y'know what might piss him off even more?" asked Locke, her eyes brightening. Without waiting for Mina to answer, the albino continued to speak. "If he saw us getting along. Then, we'd have some entertainment." If Locke had to guess, she'd say that Mina was alike to her in the way that annoying other people was something of a pastime for her, as well.

Mina gave a laugh. It wasn't a very likely happening, Satoru generally didn't get mad at his employees (only customers, and that was only when they didn't show spine) but she wouldn't mind giving it a shot. A disappointed and potentially miffed cripple was always funny to watch. "Sounds fun!" She grinned, forgetting her tiredness at the prospect of getting back at her boss.

"Maybe we'll lead him on," suggested Locke. "I'll come in tomorrow, like he'd expect, and we'll ruin his fun just like that." The albino snapped her fingers for emphasis and hoped Mina liked the idea.

Mina chuckled. "Hey, whatever it is, if it pisses him off I'm all for it." Satoru wouldn't fire her, not when Egil was already overworked and with how long it would take to train someone else. Kage had proved to be the exception to the rule, and not the rule itself. Lucky her.
