"Aaaahhh..." Hotaru said in a calm realization. "So you're a hockey kind of guy?" she asked, laughing as she stretched her legs a little.

Jack laughed a little, deciding to ease up on the officials for the moment. "Sorta, I just like watching the players beat each other up for no real reason." He cracked open a soda, the tab hissing as the air was released from it's aluminum prison, and took a drink. "It's a fun way to kill time."

"I see." the red head told him, smiling. "Sports never caught my eye. It's too hard to understand." she sat down the empty can, tunring towards the rest of the full ones. Shaking her head, she looked back at him. "I think I've had enough for today." Of course she had only had one can, but it was enough for her.

The Ookami nodded. "The only sport I've ever gotten the gist of is Duel Monsters, but that doesn't really count as an actual sport."
Jack grinned. "Fine by me, means there's more ammunition for the inevitable lunch rush." Everyone seemed to disappear around the lunch hours so there was little else to do during that open slot of time other than bomb the government with soda and then evade a few officials in a mad chase around the city. Though that last event had only happened twice.
Strangely enough, neither time they had seem his face and he had been IN the government. It was powerful, but dumb as a box of rocks.

"I know you're not a big fan of the goverment or anything," Hotaru started. "but why do you keep meesing with them if two of your relatives are actually part of it?" she asked him, curiously.

He scowled and the can in his hand was crushed a bit by the force of his clenching hand. "Because my dad needs a wake up call and Aiden seems to forget that he's human and needs to get angry sometimes." He chucked the half-finished can off the tower, it didn't hit anyone and he wasn't aiming for anything. It crashed onto the pavement and was promptly run over by a passing car.
He took a deep breath and began the process of calming down. He'd answer Hotaru if she had anymore questions (she almost surely would, the answer was sufficiently lacking) but he had to keep a level head about it.

Hotaru was caught by surprise by the expression on Jack's face. He was normally so happy.
"Well..." she started to say. "all families have their problems..." She wanted to add more, but couldn't find anything else to say. "But, I gotta ask, what makes you say that about them?" She hoped he wouldn't mind her wanting to know.

He leaned on the guard-rail. "I don't blame you for asking." He sighed and thought about his answer.
"Well, let me start with dad. He got promoted about a week after I was forced into the government and things started changing at home with him. He took down every picture that had our mom in it, he changed the entire house around, not to mention he stopped listening to to his own kids on anything that happened."
The scowl was back but there was no danger of Jack losing his cool again. "He barely notices when Tekka visit's anymore and she's picked up on it. She doesn't really come out of her room when she comes back, like she can tell he won't care either way." A bitter smile replaced the scowl. "She always was a little bit more perceptive than we gave her credit for." He shook his head. "I've found that getting into heaps of trouble gets him to react more like the dad from the good old days.
"Now Aiden is a little different. He started getting strange about the same time dad did, but instead of a personality 180, he acts like a robot. He doesn't react to almost anything unless he gets mad, and then he's okay. For an hour or two after the explosion, I get my brother back." He grinned wryly. "Not the best trade ever invented, but ticking off officials is the only way to get both of them acting like they should."

Hotaru listened to Jack carefully. "Well, I can't say much about someone I've never met, but, maybe part of the reason your dad got like that was because he still misses your mom, and the promotion added to the stress."
She also leaned on the guard-rail beside him. "As for your brother... well, I really don't know what to say. Like I said, it's hard, if not impossible, to say stuff about people I don't know."

Jack sighed. "I used to think that, but he's had a decade to get over it. He should deal with grief better than just ignoring his kids. Hell, I deal with it better than he does." He sighed. "But until he actually decides to tell us what's going on, I guess I'll have to deal with it."
Immediately after he finished speaking, he felt guilty. Here he was dumping this all on Hotaru when it really wasn't that big compared to what she had been through. How to remedy this...
Jack smiled sincerely. "Thanks for listening though, I guess I had to get that off my chest."

Hotaru smiled softly in return. "Of course. You had to put up with listening to my crap, after all." She hugged him for a while then continued. "Everyone needs that person they can tell stuff to."

He hugged her back. "Good thing I've got you." He said truthfully. If he had to keep everything in forever, he'd explode. Having someone listen to problems was good. Very good. It was even better knowing that she wouldn't spread it around.

"And that I have you." Hotaru added, equally as truthful. She thought about it for a moment; Jack might probably be the only one she could talk to about her past, ever.
"I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am about being able to actually talk to someone again." she then told him, looking down at tthe ground many stories below them. "No fear of seeing handcuffs and prision cells... unless someone finds out and tells." she then tried laughing off silently.

Jack grinned, kissing her forehead. "If anyone finds out and tries to rat you out, they'll have to deal with me first." The grin got wider. "And given the choice between that and keeping their traps shut, they'd prolly choose the latter."

Hotaru could feel a light blush coming up when he kissed her. 'I really am lucky.' she thought to herself quickly.
"Thanks." she told him gratefully. "Really."
