Hotaru laughed loudly as Jack spoke. "Well, he knows it was you, doesn't he?" she raised a brow. "Are you at least a little worried about what he might do to you? I would be."

Jack's smile didn't fade. "Yeah, I'm terrified." He chuckled, though there was no hint of sarcasm. "I'm gonna catch hell when I head back, so I'm probably gonna stay in the barracks for awhile." He brushed the sand off of his hands.
"Though that's a plus when you live in the clans. Going to get in trouble if you head back to your place? Head to Headquarters!" He snickered.

"Sounds like a plan!" she said. "Is it just the three of you that live together, or are your parents around, too?" Hotaru asked out of curiousity. She began to wonder what it would be like to be able to go home and be welcomed by other people, whether it was a good or bad kind of welcome.

Jack's grin dimmed a little. "Dad pretty much lives at work, and Mom," The tide was creeping up on them and he picked up a small flat stone, tossing it in his hand absentmindedly. "Mom died awhile back, so yeah. It's typically just us three."
He threw the rock, watching it whiz and skip over the waves.

So he had lost someone, too. "I'm sorry." she told him genuinely. "But at least you have your siblings there, even if at times that sounds irratating." Hotaru watched the waves as she continued. "I wish I had that." she smirked a little. "But that's my own fault, can't blame anyone for that."

"I doubt it's your own fault." He said with a slight smile. "A lot of the things that we think are our faults are just because of circumstances." A wry smile made it's way to his face, many things indeed.
"Getting dragged into clans, the immense poverty of the nation, the gang wars, all of it's because of the mistakes made generations ago. Very rarely is something exclusively your fault." Another rock was sent skipping over the waves.

"I guess you're right." Hotaru agreed. "I guess I've just been use to blaming myself for lots of things in the past couple of years." she smirked and messed with his hair a little like he had done to her so many times. "Mr. Positive." she called him.

Jack grinned. "I try." The sun was beginning to set, and the Ookami really began to wonder how long they had been here. Hours probably, it hadn't felt that long though.
The sun was painting the sky in bright violets and pinks, with the occasional bit of blue here or there, and moving to red and gold closer to the horizon. The water seemed to be aflame, it sparkled and gleamed in the gold of twilight.
As if on cue, some sea mammal (a dolphin probably) jumped out of the ocean, silhouetting itself against the sun and executing one perfect flip before diving back into the depths of the sea.

Hotaru had begun to wonder the same thing. It felt like they had just gotten there. She looked at her lap, suddenly realizing just how close she was sitting next to Jack. The Tora smiled; she wasn't as cold anymore, but she didn't want to move away even a little bit. It felt nice, comforting even. Somewhere in her mind she wondered if she was blushing, but she coudn't care less. She was having fun for the moment.
"Think we've been here for a while." she told him. "Strange, huh?"

"Yeah, feels like we just got here, doesn't it?" His eyes swapped from the ocean view over to Hotaru. She was sitting very close but he didn't mind, not in the slightest. Jack honestly didn't want her to move.
Why was it that the clans had to be broken up? They were running a risk here, most of the higher authorities in the clans would call it fraternizing/flirting with the enemy. No one would approve of liking someone from another clan like this.
The government had to be taken down somehow, that was the only way. It was a proven fact that you could get into the systems, they had done it last night. If people would just band together then maybe...
Well, 'maybe's wouldn't do any good. For now, they had to duel, to fight, to bide their time. Keeping this a secret would be necessary, no matter how much he wished that he didn't have to.

Hotaru smiled. "Yeah, it does." she said. She looked at him for a moment, puzzled. "You okay?" she asked him. "You look like you have something on your mind."

Jack nodded. "Mhm. Just a thought, but the more I think about it the more likely it seems." He looked her square in the eyes. "We'll have to keep this all really quiet. If anyone finds out, then it's not gonna be very pretty." He grimaced slightly at the thought. "I doubt your clanmates are going to like you dating an Ookami, and I know mine aren't going to want me dating a Tora."
The next rock he threw sunk on the first skip.

Hotaru nodded her head. "Yeah, you're right." she hadn't thought about that, but he had a point. She didn't talk to many people in her clan anyway, but she still had to be careful. She couldn't risk losing someone she cared about, not again.
She looked and noticed a strand of her hair was in her face. She blew on it, making it fall back into place with the rest of her hair. "This clan thing sucks." she then muttered to herself. The red head could feel herself getting a little tired and ended resting her head on Jack's shoulder. "This okay?" she asked him.

Jack nodded, a rare scowl making itself known. "Yeah, they do." The scowl was quickly removed from his face at the feeling of her head on his shoulder. He smiled and laid his head gently on hers. "It's okay if this is."
The sun was almost a crescent on the horizon at this point, and it would have been getting dark if not for the lights on the nearby boardwalk.

Hotaru could feel her smile growing. "Perfectly fine." she replied, closing her eyes. She hoped this moment wouldn't end. It just seemed so... perfect, I guess you could say. Like one of those lame romance movies you see all the time, except this wasn't lame at all, nor was it a movie. She tried her best to savor the moment as much as she could, knowing it wouldn't last forever.
