Naoko quickly went to the closet to find a shirt. It was just a simple white one, an undershirt, but it would be so much better than the one he'd been wearing. She took the one that looked most like his size and held onto it as she waited for him to finish. "…I-I'm Naoko." Names were good right? She didn't think he'd really care, but it was polite and she wanted to be nice to him. She'd never met anyone outside of the military bases before, he was so different from what she was use to seeing.

It took little while with one good hand to wrap the injuries, but before too long Satoru deemed himself finished. He took the shirt, more grateful then he would ever likely say. "...Satoru," he responded as he tugged on the shirt. The kid was a good judge of size, it fit well. "What's a little kid doing in a military base?" He asked, honestly curious. If he stayed here for much longer he'd probably be late for Ryota's training, but it wasn't like he'd make it back in good time anyway. If he was gonna be late, he might as well miss it entirely. The elder gunslinger had always said if someone was going to be late they shouldn't bother showing up at all...

Satoru, that was a nice name, she'd remember that. "Momma and Daddy work here." She answered simply. Naoko turned to grab her bunny now that every was done and held it close. "They're on duty, so I kind of snuck out of where I was suppose to be." She should probably keep from saying too much, he wasn't from here so he wasn't supposed to know. There wasn't really much she could tell him anyway, but you never know.

"Why'd they pick here to work at?" Satoru blinked, kind of dumbfounded. "New Tokyo's shit, there's nothing there to PROTECT or anything..." And he'd never seen a military officer in the city even once despite the base's proximity. He assumed someone had a deal with the higher ups in the army or the... whatever. National guard? He didn't know. "Especially if they've got a kid," his eyes narrowed a bit at that. Anyone could come in, more vicious than him, and hurt the kid. If Satoru could do it injured, Ryota could do it blind, and the majority of the gangs could do it on a normal basis...

"Two kids." She corrected. "Big brother's fourteen." She held onto her rabbit a little tighter. "Is it really that bad out there?" She didn't get to go outside much at all since they'd been here, if it was as bad as Satoru said then that would explain why.

"Yes," he responded immediately. "Whatever they told you about how bad it was, what goes on in there, it's worse." Honestly, if he ever managed to find a way out without fear of everything coming back to haunt him then he was going to consider that a miracle... But right now he couldn't. No money, too many people might need him here, he couldn't leave Ryota and Ryota wouldn't leave the city... It was a mess, but he was stuck there.

Naoko was quiet for a moment. "Then why're you still here?" She asked, curious. "W-we move a lot, and I don't think my daddy would mind if you came with us…" He was older than her, but not extremely so. A teenager, and Daddy wouldn't hurt kids or teens.

Well wasn't that just a can of worms? How did he explain to a ten year old what went in on the city? How it was like a poison, how he honestly wasn't sure he COULD manage living anywhere else? How did he explain Ryota's surprising amount of gruff kindness despite his student's... abnormalities, and how much he didn't want to lose that? How did he try and tell her that if he left he'd only ever be known as a traitor and a coward and he couldn't prove them right by doing that?
She was ten, she wouldn't understand that, so what could he possibly say?
"...Because the city's very hard to leave," he said. "It gets inside of you and it never really leaves you, so you can never really leave it... And if you go away then you know there's something off, something wrong with you. But here? If I stay here, at least I'm sort of normal."

"But what if you keep getting hurt?" She asked him. "Isn't that bad too? If it's as bad as you said, and you had a chance to leave and you didn't take it, I wouldn't think that's very normal." She decided she liked him well enough, he was nice and hadn't tried to hurt her. "What if you get killed or something?" He made it sound so bad, she didn't get why he wanted to stay.

"I'll just keep getting hurt then," he replied with a shrug. "And I did say 'kinda,' no one's normal here... We're just all the same sort of messed up." And hell... As much as he wanted to leave, the sheer power the phrase 'New Tokyo' held wouldn't help him much unless he was going to another sort of war zone. "Why do you care, anyway?"

Naoko shrugged and her cheeks started to warm up again. "I dunno." She replied. "You're nice." Strange, but nice. He was different from what she was used to seeing around all these bases, the change was good. "… So then you won't come with us?" She almost sounded disappointed.

"I doubt your parents would like it," he half-laughed out. She looked so disappointed, must have been really innocent to be like that. "Thanks for the offer though, kid, but I got people who'll be waiting for me back home." The hideout was home, he supposed, it wasn't like he had anywhere else to go.

Naoko frowned a little. "Okay…" It was worth a try, she guessed. "So then I probably won't see you again, will I?" She wasn't stupid, but she was still a little sad. She'd have to go back to the same boring thing and talk to the same boring people, if they would even listen to her. That's why she always had her bunny, at least he paid attention to her.

"Not after this," Satoru replied. Coming back would be risky, more risky than he would deem acceptable. So this would probably be the last time he talked to her. The look of disappointment was starting to get to him, and he gave a small sigh. "I... don't have to leave yet, though," he replied. Damn the kid.

Naoko's eyes lit up and a smile spread across her face. He wasn't leaving yet, this was great! As much as she wanted him to play with her, she was worried about someone catching them if they went outside of the room. Plus with him being hurt it probably wasn't a good idea anyway.
They could still talk though! "What'd you do for fun, Satoru?" She asked as she flopped down on the floor, crossing her legs together.
