Yukiko's eyes widened a little as she struggled not to panic. Something was wrong. Something was very very wrong. Could he...? The realization Yukiko came to made her stomach drop. Oh God, he was clasutrophobic, wasn't he? The Ookami immediately fell beside Theo, touching his shoulder gingerly. She knew he wasn't a fan of being touched, but she couldn't leave him like this... "Sshh... Theo it's okay. I promise. It's okay." She knew her words weren't worth much when Theo was this distraught. She needed to think of something to calm him down and she needed to do it fast...
"Ssh, just close your eyes and listen to my voice, okay?" She carefully moved so that she could rub slow circles around he small of his back. The Ookami watched intently, in case she accidentally upset him further.

Theo shuddered and clung desperately to Yuki, different from his usual demeanor but right now ANYTHING would be better than feeling the space closing in on him. Pressing down on all sides. "M-Mhm..." He choked out, just to show he was listening as his eyes squeezed shut. He was shaking like a leaf and maybe, just maybe, Yuki could help. Yuki always helped.

Yukiko held Theo as closely to her as she could, trying to put her body in between him and the walls of the cupboard. She spoke to him softly, in the same tone she often used with her brothers when they had nightmares. "Do you remember when we first met?" she murmured, gently brushing his hair with her fingers. "You asked me where I would go if I could leave the city. I said I wanted it to be an open space with lots of stars. I promised we could go there together, so why don’t we? Picture it with me.” Perhaps if she was lucky, she could help Theo picture something besides the wooden walls surrounding them; to help his mind take him someplace else.
“It's quiet, and peaceful. All you can see is grass, for miles and miles around. It’s tall, and rustles in the breeze. If you listen carefully you also can hear the roar of the ocean. The sky is a canvas of smooth, black velvet and the stars shine on it like thousands of sparkling diamonds. We could sit on the hilltop and stare at them for hours. There are hordes of fireflies floating through the air. I think I’d like to catch a few of those, if you’d like to join me."

Theo's breaths deepened a bit as he was ensconced in Yuki's arms instead of the hard wooden reality trapping them. She was warm and soft and if he kept his eyes shut he could pretend maybe they were just in a room instead of a cabinet. Maybe this would work.
And then, Yuki started to talk, and Theo was entranced. He had never known how good Yukiko was with her words... and her voice was so soft and soothing that it wasn't hard at all to just... slip away. Find himself in that grass, feel a breeze he knew wasn't real but helped all the same. He took a breath and, for fear of movement breaking the illusion, tried to speak. "Y-yeah..." He mumbled out, feeling less like he was going to puke than a few minutes ago. "Let's... let's catch a jar of fireflies..."

"I bet it won't be too hard. The grass is practically glowing with them. We could snag a whole jar-full, easy. We can catch fireflies and gaze at the stars... Maybe I'll bring my guitar and play a little too." Yukiko began to smile softly. "And when we're tired and done we can have a special place to go rest, a little cabin maybe, nothing fancy; but it's warm and safe and perfect. A special place for just the two of us." Maybe she was opening up a bit too much about her personal paradise, but as log as it kept Theo calm te OoKami didn't mid.
"We'll take our jar of fireflies inside with us. They'll glow like a soft yellow night light in the dark and you can watch them as you fall asleep to the sound of wind and chirping crickets. No cars or big city lights. Just the moons, the stars, and a field full of fireflies."

Theo's shaking calmed and his breath evened out as he listened to Yuki... "We'll get there some day, right?" he mumbled out before he could stop himself. Some part of him desperately hoped they would, somehow, be able to. The clans didn't allow much opportunity to get away... but maybe...
"Th-thanks...." he stammered out just after, as if he hoped to cover up his stupid far-fetched hope with something more present.

"You're welcome," the Ookami quietly replied. "And we'll get there one day, I promise. Whether it be tomorrow or fifty years from now, we'll get there somehow." Theo's hair was soft beneath her fingertips. "But for now we'll just have to picture it." It seemed as though Theo seemed quite a bit calmer than he had been earlier. That was good. It would be even better if they could get out of the cupboard, but Yukiko would take what she could get. The green-eyes teen looked down at her companion, gaze swelling with affection. "But as long as I'm with you that's all I really need."

Theo couldn't open his eyes or he'd break the spell, but he hugged Yukiko ever tighter at that, tears prickling. How? How was the brunette so kind? Why did she even care about him or want to spend time with him? "Why," he choked out, tears leaking out from his eyes as his breath hitched. "Why are- are you so kind to me?" He stammered as he clung to her. No one was this kind to him, no one had wanted to spend time with him like Yuki did.

Yukiko's eyes widened when Theo clung to her, and her surprise grew when she noticed the tears in his eyes. She tightened her hold around him and squeezed her eyes shut with a shuddering breath. She opened her mouth to answer, but found she could not. Because I love you. Those words, four simple words, were lodged in her throat. This hardly seemed like the place to say something like that. But with Theo holding her like he was, with his voice sounded the way it did...
Yukiko swallowed and opened her eyes and found them burning with would-be tears when she did so. She Pulled Theo close and whispered, "Because I care about you. Because you are important to me. Because you don't deserve anything less. I'm here because I promised I would always protect you." Her voice nearly shook with the density of emotion. "I will always protect you, Theo."

"D-don't deserve it," he choked out, shaking. The words were going to start spilling out any moment now. "I-I don't I-I'm useless and stupid an-and I can-can't do ANYTHING right a-and..." He hiccuped every last memory flooding his mind. Curses and broken bottles being thrown at him. The smell of his own blood and the throbbing of new wounds as he was tossed in a closet. The hoarseness of his voice after screaming and crying and promising he'd do better daddy please let him OUT...

"Don't you say that. Don't you ever say that. You are the kindest, gentlest, most wonderful person I have ever met." She took a deep breath, and forced the words that had been trapped inside her chest for so long out. "I love you; I love every part of you with all of my heart." There. She said it. She finally said it. "So don't you ever say that you don't deserve it."

Theo froze at the words, eyes snapping open as he looked up. "Y-you what?" He... he couldn't have heard that right. He couldn't have. There was no way. Because Yuki was amazing and kind and BEAUTIFUL and- and he was just... he was scarred up and terrified and useless and it didn't matter what she said he still WAS useless... she couldn't love him.

"I love you," she repeated. Now that the dam had broken, Yukiko found the words practically spilling out of her mouth. "I'm sorry, I know this isn't the best place to be saying this. And maybe you don't feel the same way, but..." In spite of her shaking nerves, she smiled. "I love you. I always have, and I always will."

And Theo didn't know what to say. He wanted to say something, anything, but he couldn't. The words didn't come they didn't flow he wasn't sure what to DO--
So he just held fast to Yukiko and promised himself he'd never let her go. Not if he could help it.

It felt as if a massive weight had been lifted from Yukiko's shoulders. Her heart felt so light it threatened to fly out of her chest. She clung to Theo, her eyes filling with happy tears. She wanted to stay like this, wrapped up in the Tora's grasp. They couldn't sit in the wardrobe forever, but this moment was somehow made to last indefinitely, she wouldn't mind one bit.
