It was a rare day that Roman decided to go to school. His mom and teachers got onto him about it, but really, what was the point? He hardly knew anyone older than him that actually finished school, and they all seemed to be doing well. Why couldn't he do the same?
Though today he decided he would go willingly for once, a little education wouldn't kill him. Not that he was really prepared, he didn't have a bag with him for books, and he had one pencil in the pocket of his jacket. He'd be fine though, Anya kept him (somewhat) updated on what was going on in class, he wouldn't need much today if he was right.
He entered the school and looked around. He knew class hadn't started yet, so he figured wondering around the halls a little would kill some time for him.

Becca had taken to getting to class early, not really because she delighted in being there, but because it would force Kaz to learn to wake up on his own without her there to poke and prod him into wakefulness. And he could only 'yell' at her by coming to school. So, as far as she was concerned, it worked out pretty well.
Besides, the quiet was nice, even if she would have preferred some heavy metal to drown out some of the more unpleasant thoughts of the day. But no, the school had a heavy ban on electronics. No music, no laptops, no nothing. She felt swindled. Her plan was FLAWED yes, but it served her goal of getting Kaz to school with minimal prodding well enough. She'd simply have to deal...
And possibly rewire a drink machine to dispense without money...
Actually, yes, that sounded like a good idea. She WAS rather parched...
It wasn't long before the russet-haired teen had dispensed of her jacket and had both arms buried in the wires in the back of the machine. Thank the lord for hidden toolkits. As frustrating as the undersized tools could be, it was better than nothi--
Someone was coming...
Well. Shit.

Roman heard something as he walked down the halls. There was someone nearby, he could tell that much. While he normally liked to stay away from people if possible, he was a little curious about where the sound was coming from and what was causing it. He turned the corner and noticed someone was messing with the drink dispenser. He took a few steps closer.
"… Becca?" the blond asked, tilting his head to get a better look at what she was doing. "Why're you… messing with that?"

Oh, it was just Roman. What a relief. "Theft," she replied before tying together few wires and pulling her hands out of the machine. That ought to do it... But she'd rather test it before closing the machine up. "Keep an eye on the hall..." She told him as she came around to the front of the machine and pushed a button for iced tea.
The machine gave a rumble and a churn and a shudder before the canned drink plunked heavily into the dropslot.

The blond looked around to make sure no one would stumble upon them and catch Becca. He turned around when he heard the machine drop a drink down. "You rigged it." he stated. He would have noticed if she'd slipped money into the machine, plus it kind of made sense why she was messing with the wires just a moment ago. "Are ya that desperate for a drink?" He grinned. There were ways to get something to drink for free without rigging the drink machine.

"For a drink that isn't the pisswater in the pipes?" She retorted, taking a sip of her drink. "Yes, I am." There was a shrug after a few more gulps of drink. "Well," she conceded, "that, and I was bored. There's nothing to do around here." At least this early. She'd ace her classes (with the exception of Lit, who cared about Romeo and Juliet? They were dumb kids, six people died in four days.) regardless of effort, so it wasn't like she had brought things to study.
Come to think of it, Roman didn't either... "What are you doing here so early?" She asked, hitting another button for her companion's drink.

Roman shrugged, he couldn't really argue with that logic. "Told ya last time, I'm a pretty early riser." He looked around the hall one more time and walked over to where she was standing. "Besides, I figured I might as well show up to school while I could still talk myself into it. " The longer he stayed in bed was just more of an excuse to skip class.

"The allure of the snooze button is truly a siren's song," Becca said dryly as she pulled out the second drink for Roman. "Not a fan of the rigors of public education?" She asked over the rim of her can. "Or not a fan of the people?" Because there was a bit of a difference. Learning was one thing, but the people you dealt with in the process were another altogether.

Roman took the drink and gave a quick nod to Becca in thanks before opening it. "Both, really." he replied before taking a quick gulp. "From what I've seen you don't really need much of an education to get a decent job in this town, and half the school's either scared of me or thinks they can take me in a fight." In which they were sadly mistaken, but that didn't need to be said. "So I just rather not go at all, but then again my mom would kill me if I dropped out." He shrugged and took another drink.

She glanced to him. "get me to a computer terminal and I can hack your grades into As." She said coolly as she finished off her drink. "Just an offer." Honestly? She could probably make a small fortune as a small-time hacker just for kids and their grades, but she preferred being a small-time hacker with big game for her family and friends. Well... She was fairly sure Roman was a friend. He was no Artemis, that was for certain.
Friend would do. "

Roman grinned a little and shook his head. "Nah, it's cool. Getting the information down's the easy part, it's just the effort." The blonde was surprisingly smart, he was positive his test scores were the only thing keeping him from failing anything. He just never really had the motivation to try much. Weird, it was one of the things Perri and himself had in common, so he'd chalk it up to a genetics thing. It was the only explanation.
He took a few more drinks before finishing his own can. "What about you? Socializing doesn't exactly look like your thing either." And she SEEMED pretty smart, smart enough to up and graduate right now if he had to guess. Why was she still sticking around?

"Because it's not my thing," she answered, confirming the obvious. "I stick around to make sure Kaz stays on track, he likes socializing, but he's a pushover." Sassy, but the kid didn't always stick up for himself when he really needed to. His friends? Certainly. But Kaz would let people walk all over him if they wanted to. That was what she was here for. That, and translating his odd sign language.

Roman nodded, he could certainly respect that. His sister wasn't a pushover by far, but he did still look out for her despite what he had heard about her. "Makes sense, better reason to show than me for sure." He tossed his can into a trash can nearby, shoving his hands back into his pockets afterwards.
"So you in advance classes or somethin'?" It was an honest question, he couldn't help but be curious.

She nodded. Those were, at least, not too slow for her taste. "All but Lit..." She grumbled, who the hell cared what symbolism was where and what it meant. Why couldn't she just enjoy a story without analyzing the hell out of it? "What about you?"

The blond shrugged. "Probably would be if I showed up to school more often, but nah. Teachers bitch at me all the time 'cause of it." He really WAS smart, the effort to come to school everyday just wasn't worth it to him. He chuckled a little. "I'm almost positive the reason I haven't repeated a class yet are my test scores if that tells ya anything." He wasn't a genius by any means, but he did know how to get his grade good enough to get by.
