Becca doctored up her pancakes with a helpful dose of syrup and butter before she started talking. "Tekka wound up taking me under her wing when Jazz was two and I was twelve..." She began. She had said she would tell him over breakfast so that was what she was going to do. "Kaz came a little after."

Roman started setting up his own pancakes as he listened to Becca. After finishing his first bite he glanced over at her. "How though? Like, what were you doing for you to run into each other?" He was curious, and while he wasn't exactly sure whether all of his questions would be answered or not, but it never hurt to ask. What was the worst she could do? Ignore him? He was use to it.

"Because," Rebecca replied before eating a forkful of pancake-y goodness. "I was a terrible pickpocket that day." Another bite.
"I left home when I was ten. I knew a good deal about how to survive on my own and by twelve I was pretty well-versed in what to do to keep myself alright." She paused a bit, thinking of what to say next. "But that day I was sick, there had been a cold snap I hadn't been ready for, some bad rain right before... I was slipping up pretty badly, and when she caught me I thought she was going to turn me into the police. Send me home."
A change in tone, a bit more fond, perhaps even the ghost of a nostalgic smile. "She actually told me what I did WRONG and then let me stay with her until I got better. No questions asked... I just... I stuck around after that. I doubt Jazz would have let me leave even if I wanted to."

The blonde nodded as he ate from time to time to show he was still listening. Once his mouth was clear of food he spoke again. "Jazz is the blonde kid right? What about the quiet kid?" Kaz, if he heard the name right. "How'd he come along?"

Becca gave a real smile this time. "Yeah, that's him. Goggles is Kaz." She thought for a moment. "It really wasn't too long after Tekka found me that he found us. We were walking, I forget what to or what from, and this kid just tackles me from behind. None of us knew what to make of it because NONE of us had heard him approaching."
She took another bite of breakfast. "Took us a while to figure out his name and his sign-language. It wasn't any sort of usual sign language, that's for sure..."

Roman actually chuckled a little at that, there was something about Becca's story that got him. They just seemed to truly care about each other, and he appreciated that. "Sounds like that was fun figuring out." he grinned as he ate a little more. "So what's his deal? I mean the whole silent thing, is he okay?" It seemed like a more personal question, but he couldn't deny who curious he was.

Becca shrugged. "He tells everyone who asks that his voice 'got scared away' and that's why he doesn't talk." She ate a little more. "Physically he's fine, there's nothing wrong with his throat or anything that would prevent him from speaking." She said. "It's either a conscious personal decision or a psychological issue." She glanced to meet Roman's eyes. "Either way, he'll talk when he wants to, and until then he can write anything he needs to say."

"Fair enough." Roman said, deciding it just wasn't worth it to dive any further on the topic. "Not like I'd force the kid or anything." He went back to his pancakes and thought for a moment, debating on whether he should ask her what happened for her to leave her original home. He didn't want to ask her a million questions, but she had answered everything so far.

"What's it like here, by the way?" Becca asked. "You don't seem very social, so you'll give me a better breakdown on the barracks than anyone else will." She wasn't exactly a social butterfly (more like a badger), but she still needed to know how things worked around here. And often, those outside of the social structure could see it clearer than any others.

Roman shrugged as he finished off his pancakes, moving onto the rest of his food. "It's alright I guess, I mean I'd prefer staying at home, but this works." He scratched his head a little in thought, he wasn't sure what she was expecting to hear but he'd try his best. "Free food, room and board, and you can pretty much go anywhere as long as your back in the dorms by curfew, which I guess that kinda sucks."
He took a bite out of an apple. "You're gonna have to be a little more specific if there's anything else you're wanting to know."

Becca gave him an unreadable look as she took a bite of eggs before speaking. "I meant how are the people, from what you've seen. Who are the pariahs, who's on top... that sort of thing." There was ALWAYS a sort of order to these things, not so much a hierarchy so much as a list of people to avoid for different reasons, but an order nonetheless.

Roman nodded his head in understanding as he chewed more of his food, once he swallowed he spoke. "Ah, well that's easy. Well as you can imagine Artemis and Daemon are up top, but that's really just 'cause of their money. Daemon's more popular though because people actually LIKE him." Not everyone, but a good majority.
"Then, I wouldn't say they're 'popular' exactly, but Anya and my sister Perri are pretty well known around here. Perri goes to a lot of parties, and Anya's just... Anya." He shrugged. "Not an easy way to describe her really." A lot of guys knew Perri, and it really bothered him. He wasn't exactly sure HOW, but knowing his twin he decided that he'd be better off not knowing that one. "Not too many other people stick out. A couple of class clowns, normal people, then of course the social freaks like me." He gave a small grin and went back to his food.

"I think 'Amazonian Warrior' works pretty well to describe Anya," Becca supplied as she finished off her breakfast with a long drought of coffee. "And thanks," She said after a moment when Roman had finished. At least she had a better understanding of how this whole place worked. "Do either one of the Speirs have any sort of followers?" More specific questions yielded better results, as the case always seemed to be...

Roman shrugged. "I mean, Daemon's got the whole baseball team and a few random people, same with Artemis with Tennis. Perri sees them at parties together though, just not much at school, but that might just be 'cause they're in different grades." He finished his food. "Daemon'll basically hang out with anybody, Artemis is a little more picky. Likes them on the 'pretty' side I guess." He used air quotes mainly because he always thought they looked a little fake to him. "But I normally try not to pay attention to them to be honest, so sorry if I can't give ya good details."

Becca shrugged again. "It's more than I knew before," she countered, stacking her plates on her tray to dispose of properly whenever Roman finished his meal. "Thanks." She said, then decided that she'd let HIM pick the next topic of conversation, her skills were stunted well beyond what even Roman's pathetic set was...
