Aiden felt guilt coiling up as the smile fell from Matsuda's face. Dammit... He didn't like making the other Ookami upset, he was just frustrated by the lack of answers. Maybe this would help, maybe music could help unlock some of what he was missing... but it felt like they were taking a long detour instead of the highway. "I didn't mean to..." A sigh. "Sorry, Matsu... I appreciate this, really." He leaned forward to give the blond a quick kiss.
Frustrating or not... Matsuda had gone to all this trouble for him, so he might as well try his hand at it. Whether it worked or not, well, they'd just have to find out the hard way...

Matsuda quickly kissed him back, smile picking up a little but still not quite as bright as it had before. It was probably for the best that they changed the subject now. "Well, open it up, see if it rings any bells." he tried, gesturing to the case sitting on his lap. Time to get this show on the road!

Aiden pulled the case over and undid the latches, the smell of metal and old paper and musty casing filling his nose as the top swung open. Inside sat...
Damn, it was BEAUTIFUL...
The gold saxophone, while scuffed in some places (secondhand, he noted with some relief. He didn't want matsuda blowing tons of money on him after all...) had a lovely burnished shine to it. It looked well taken care of, if not a little old. Well loved, likely.
He ghosted his fingers over the keys of the instrument reverently. "Matsuda... it's great..." Gratitude and happiness welled up in his chest, he wasn't sure why or how... But it felt like something had been filled that was missing. He didn't know what it meant, but it felt... RIGHT...

Matsuda's smile grew wider as he watched Aiden's expression as he stared at the saxophone, and even brighter when he spoke. "Well of course it is." he said with a grin. "Nothing but the best for you." He made sure everything was perfect before even walking out of the store with the instrument. He didn't want anything to go wrong with the gift, it was something he KNEW would be special for Aiden.
"So what're you waiting for? Pick it up and try it out!" he nudged Aiden's shoulder for a little extra encouragement, though he doubted that was really needed.

Aiden lifted the instrument out of the case gently. His fingers moved to cover the keys, feeling out what felt right. It was... actually easy, his fingers found a good position that sat well with him. He glanced to Matsu one more time before taking a breath and letting out a note.
It was... sweet, and before he knew it, his fingers were moving to change the note. One sound turned into a quick melody, and before he could go much farther he pulled back for breath.
....Wherever that had come from, Aiden felt GOOD...

Matsuda's eyes lit up as Aiden played, if only just a simple melody. It was still SOMETHING. When the brunette stopped he quickly went to hug him, no one else in the room seemed to being paying attention to them. "I was RIGHT!" he exclaimed joyfully. "You DO still have it in you, music's something you never forget." He chuckled and pressed a kiss to Aiden's temple. It was music and Aiden, Matsu's two favorite things in the world, how could he NOT be excited?!

Aiden's face flushed crimson at the kiss. They didn't do it much in public, so when it did happen he could always feel his cheeks warm up. He kept his hold on the instrument just barely through the hug, laughing along with Matsu just a bit. He smiled, a bright, good smile. Sincere and happy, one that didn't grace his features very often. "Thank you..." He said quietly to the blond.

Matsuda blushed a little himself just from the sincerity in the two words and his smile. He actually managed to make Aiden THIS happy from it? He knew the brunette would love it, but he wasn't completely prepared for this response for some reason. It made him feel good, for Aiden and himself. Apparently he could make people happy after all...
The blond released him from the hug, more so our of fear for the instrument's physical state than anything else. "You're welcome." he replied softly as he looked in his eyes. He was just couldn't get over this, why he was so in awe of the brunette's response he wasn't too sure, but it made him feel good about himself.

Aiden couldn't help himself, he leaned down to kiss Matsuda properly. For once, memories or not, the big guy was completely content to be exactly where he was. With Matsuda in the Ookami rec room seemed like a damn good place to him.

Matsuda smiled and kissed him back. This had turned into a really good day, just as he predicted it would. The blonde pulled back after a little bit and smiled. "Now, wanna keep playing?" he asked, amused.

The brunette gave a nod, "you gonna join in this time?" He asked, gesturing to the guitar case. At the very least, he'd like to practice with Matsuda. It'd be way more fun than just going off of the sheet music (though that would certainly do in a pinch). "I wanna play with you." He added on, fingers tapping at the keys as his excitement rushed though him in the form of excess energy.

Matsuda chuckled. "I was waiting for you to ask!" he exclaimed, turning around to pull his guitar out of its case. It was just a worn out acoustic, but so long as he changed out and tuned the strings when they needed it it was perfect. He had thankfully done so right before showing up in the rec room so he wouldn't have to waste time with it when he got there.
The blond held the guitar, setting it comfortably on his lap as he turned back to Aiden. "I don't suppose you'd have something in mind?" It'd sound terrible if they didn't have SOMETHING planned.

Aiden shrugged. "Not really," saxophones were good at mimicking voices, at least, he was pretty sure he could pull it off. All they needed was a song with guitar in that case... Or.... maybe... "I'd suggest Bruce Springsteen... but we'd need bass and drums and piano for that too..."

Matsuda chuckled. "Tell you what, you start off with something and I'll find a way to jump in, sound good?" He was fairly good at improv when he tried, he should be able to come up with something.

Aiden nodded and thought for a moment before beginning to play. He missed one or two notes at the start before relaxing, the melody smoothing out as he progressed. Matsuda could probably peg the tune easily, but Aiden focused on getting the music right so the blond could join in when he wished.
And if the duo managed to draw a few onlookers, well, music was meant to be shared, now wasn't it?
((UNIVERSE SWITCH!!! GB TIME!!))
