Yukiko initially opened her mouth to protest... and then promptly closed it again. Who was she to push him? Theo would tell her when he was good and comfortable... whenever that may be. Although, the Ookami thought with a mental sigh, that may require much more waiting than she wanted. It was awkward, knowing so much of her friend's background from Usagi without Theo actually knowing that she knew. Fortunately, Yukiko had become accoustumed to lying.
...But maybe that wasn't such a great thing.

Theo's steps eventually pattered to a halt before they even reached the cliffs and he shook his hand free of Yuki's grip. He... didn't know how to tell her with words without her bringing it up. Really he didn't... But now that the thought was in his mind... he had to try. He would never forgive himself if he didn't try. So with that, he brought his trembling hands together to try and pry off the glove on his left hand.
The fingers weren't cooperating very well, and it took some shaky, uncoordinated yanks to get the dark fabric to slide off, revealing a mangled hand. The flesh was rough and the fingers twisted, as if they had been snapped a few times in a few different places. A little bit of his pinky was missing completely... A surge of revulsion washed over Theo, it had been a long time since he had taken off the glove in public and he was immediately attuned to the noise of the surrounding area. It was lucky they were alone or else he might have lost it entirely, but a slight tremble was all that there was...
God, this was a terrible idea what was he thinking!! His... his entire body was like this, hideously marred and broken and he didn't... he really didn't want Yuki to have to see it...
But... she deserved to know... If she asked... If she just asked, then Theo would tell her.

Yukiko's brain barely registered what was going on. She glanced at Theo's hand a few times, as well as his face, and honestly his expression made her want to fall to pieces. She could only wonder if the rest of him looked as though it had been so thoroughly beaten; And that, God, she had known what had happened, but knowing and seeing were two completely different things and she hadn't ever thought it would look this bad...
She barely managed to choke the question out without her voice cracking. "What... happened?"

Theo took a breath and glanced around them again, gut clenching at the open air around them... "Caves?" He half-pleaded, wanting to get out of the open before he told her. It... really wouldn't make a difference about the information, but he would feel better about telling it the less likely it was to be overheard.

There was a long pause before Yukiko spoke. Too long, in her opinion. It was filled to the brim with things she wanted to, but couldn't say. At least not yet. "Okay," the brunette conceded, her voice even quieter than normal. She swallowed and increased her volume. "Okay, sure." As long as they still talked. Yukiko had finally dared the ask the question that had been bothering her for so long, and she knew there was no way to put off an answer any longer; at least, not without things getting very awkward.

Theo gave the brunette a smile filled to the brim with relief, thank god... He would have a much easier time telling her somewhere a little more private... He doubted anyone but Yuki or Usagi would care (and Usagi seemed to know more than he let on, which unsettled the darker-haired Tora) but perhaps that was part of it, perhaps he didn't want to have to talk and have to have it heard by anything other than a pair of ears that cared. The wasn't much for psychology (though he really wished he had the time and resources to learn) but it seemed sound enough to him.
Before too long, they reached the sheltered cove, it was shielded from both the elements and people alike, and Theo immediately felt safer there with the dull crash of the waves on the sand and the gentle echos from the walls... This was a Good Place.

Yukiko listening to the soft, rumbling roll of the sea, allowing it keep her otherwise quick heartbeat steady. "I like this place," she mused after a moment. "It's quiet." She forced forward a reassuring smile. Words currently escaped her, so the Ookami thought it better to leave the talking to Theo.

Theo hesitated a few moments longer, searching for the words. It... was difficult, how could he say what had happened without sounding whiny or... or melodramatic or whatever else might sound like it? He supposed that maybe just saying it would be the easiest... but forcing the words out was a more monumental task than he had anticipated.
"I-I...." His left hand twitched a little as he brought it up to fiddle with it. He mostly just wanted it out of sight, and began tugging the glove back on. "B-b-back... back when I lived... lived with m-my dad... I... got hit a lot..." he mumbled out, figuring that that was acceptable for now. It was accurate, but a bit of an understatement.

For a moment the air felt unusually still. Theo's words seemed to echo softly in Yukiko's ears while her mind slowly began to churn out a response. She didn't have any words to add; nothing would sound right. All she could manage was a tiny, "Oh Theo," before her maternal instincts kicked in and she moved to hug him. She knew Theo didn't always do so well with unexpected touching, so moved slowly, gingerly placing her arms around his torso and her head over his shoulder. "I'm so sorry," Yukiko murmured, not really knowing what else to say.
At that point it seemed as though every emotion possible had decided to slam into the Ookami like a brick wall. Within seconds she felt a fuzzy heat rise to her face and a hot prickling in her eyes. Oh damn it, she was NOT going to start crying.

Theo's first instinct was to flinch away from the contact, and despite his best attempts to stand firm his body can an involuntary twitch as Yuki made contact. He leaned into the embrace, though... Like stepping into a cold creek, the hardest part was starting, after he knew he was alright... he could handle it pretty well. Shaky hands came up to timidly return the hug, and Theo pulled Yuki just a little closer as he hung onto her.
"Not your fault..." He whispered a little hoarsely, though his voice was a little stronger than usual. He never wanted Yuki to have to be sorry about his scars. She hadn't done anything bad towards him, and... and dammit, he didn't want her to associate with them. Or to have himself associate her apology with them.

"I know," Yukiko laughed half-heartedly. Her voice sounded crackly and quiet, like the rustling of dry leaves. "I know... but I want to be able to do something to help, and I feel like I can't." She softly rested her head against Theo's shoulder and her fists tightened ever so slightly around the fabrics of his shirt. "Cause I said I would always protect you, but I couldn't have been there when you really needed it." Yukiko's voice cracked a little and she suddenly felt tears slipping from her eyes. She briefly entertained the distinct possibility that she was getting Theo's shirt wet, but she didn't move. Hopefully she could pull herself together before he saw her face.

Theo listened and was silent for a few moments after Yuki spoke. "I... I never had anyone t-to cry ov-ver me bef-fore..." He stammered out, grasping for a point he wasn't sure he could articulate. "I-it's okay. I-I mean, th-that you weren't there..." He clung a little tighter to her. "A-and, and you... you had p-people th-that needed you back... um... b-back th-then..."
His head tilted down until he was practically talking into her shirt. "You're, you're my f-f-friend now, s-so..." He wasn't sure how to properly say what he meant right now. That it was okay that Yuki hadn't been there before because she was here now when he needed her. That it was fine because she had had her own worries worth worrying about. That he was just glad to finally, FINALLY, release the burden on his own shoulders and have a friend that maybe he could cry a little with...
Oh my... there were a few small wet-spots on Yuki's shoulder now... had he done that? And... He loosened his grip a little, because he was certain he hadn't been clutching her that tightly when he had been talking. Maybe those thoughts in his head wanted to be let out more than he knew...

Yukiko laughed a little through her tears. "I know, I know," she murmured, pulling back just enough to wipe away the moisture in her eyes. "We have each other now. That's all that matters. Just..." She paused just long enough to get her words in order. "Just know that you can talk to me anything, o-okay? You're really important to me, and nothing can change that."

Theo blinked aside the residual wetness in his eyes and nodded to Yuki. "O-Okay..." He replied, hesitating but a moment before tagging on a quiet "Y-you too..."

Yukiko gave a brief nod, smiling softly. A blast of salty wind caught the Ookami's attention and she quickly glanced farther down the beach. "Do you want to keep walking or...?"
