Cross was still giggling as she responded to his vocabulary riddled speech. "I can certainly tell that 'interaction is unexplored'." she replied trying to stifle her laughter. She sighed as she choked off the last bits of laughter and wiped away some tears. "Oh nothing, nothing. Next time you're home, look up what a wink is on those nifty little computers of yours I assume you have." she chuckled again and shook her head smiling. "So it's safe for me to assume that I'm basically the first person you've met from the clans?" she asked looking at him with an expression of curiosity.

"Why would I need to bother looking up what a wink is?" asked Sam. "A wink is a facial expression, achieved by briefly closing one eye and not the other. It is typically used to express knowledge of a secret to one's confidante, but can also be used a form of flir...tation...?" Now Sam was really baffled. What real secret had he and Cross shared? Deciding it better not to make more of a fool of himself than he already had, Sam answered the other Kuma's remaining question. "The first? No, my parents are Tora Clan members, and I have had discussions with some of their friends of the same clan, though those have typically been concentrated on my experiments and theses..." As he was saying all of this, it occurred to Sam that he had never really talked with anyone about anything but the progress of modern science and medicine. Of the people he knew (sans Cross), none of them had separate interests. "Though I suppose, for the purpose of your question, you are the first normal person near my age with whom I've had much interaction."

Cross chuckled again at his sudden dictionary session. He was quite puzzeling and if Cross had the willpower or the usual spark in her she would be making the kid blush and stutter just for her amusement. Sadly though she wasn't in the right mindset for it. "That's gotta suck." she stated bluntly. "Your parents being in Tora and all that. When you got drafted it had to make things awkward or something right?" she asked interested. Since all of her family was dead she didn't have the same experience as Sam did. "And me being the only one your age you've met. Dude you've got some catchin' up to do. There's a ton of good people in these clans. Kuma's pretty dead right now. I don't really care about the clan thing so I have friends in all the other clans too. Helps out sometimes." she said thinking of the situation with Hotaru.

"That sounds like a very appealing situation, if not for the trouble your friends seem to have," Sam mused. "I don't care much for the clans, either. I have no feelings of loyalty for the Kuma clan, not only because my parents are in Tora, but because this whole war is somewhat unsavory to me." By this time in the conversation, Sam found himself in great intrigue concerning Cross. Until now, he had believed that the clans were three gangs of cutthroat elitists who cared nothing for fellowship and progress, but now... Were there really others who sought an end to this madness, as Sam did? "Pardon my asking, Cross, but... Would you mind terribly if I met your friends? I cannot promise that I will fit in properly, but it seems as though I might benefit from the camaraderie amongst you."

Cross smiled widely. "I thought you'd never ask!" she exclaimed happily. "You need a little more interaction with people your own age. Old people get boring and don't understand us much. Hell, its mainly the older group that has this dang war still going. That and the stupid government groups." she said with malice coating her words. She hated government. She hated the rich assholes who sat in their little offices and laughed at the mayhem around them. She hated the people who killed her family...
She shook her head to dismiss the thoughts, no need to go down memory lane now. Putting on a smile she looked at Sam. "I agree with you though. This war is stupid and sucks. Oh and you never know, someone may understand all of your scribbles and big fancy words. There's no telling with people nowadays."

"Yeah... You never know..." Sam repeated, trying not to sound too uneasy. The fact that Cross had seen his work was bad, but at least she didn't understand any of it. It was also fortunate that she didn't seem to be in her right mind at the moment. Otherwise, she might have let on that she did or something, and would likely have resulted in a heart attack for Sam. He did want someone in which to confide his secret plans, but Cross? He'd have to observe her more carefully, to determine whether or not she could be trusted with such a magnanimous plot. "Perhaps we could discuss the specifics of the meeting at a later time, so you can get information from your friends as to when they will be available. If you could find out what would work, we could come to a conclusion whilst engaging in a repast at the Wok." Was that the appropriate way to go about it? People planned things over meals, so that must be a safe option.

Cross nodded at the beginning of his little speech but shook her head at the end. "Nope, we don't need to be discussing plans like that in a public place. There's no telling who could be listening in and all that." she shuddered at the thought of one of the psychos hearing their plans. "But yea meetings are no problem. Just spread the word and they come. If not then they'll come at a later time. Today's meeting was pretty good. I think everyone who knows her was there pitching in ideas." she sighed, glad that she didn't have to come up with any new and dangerous ideas. Sure she liked living on the wild side but she didn't like the seriousness of the situation. "I think they'll like you. Although one or two of them may try to rough ya up, intimidate you that is. A couple of them didn't seem to keen to new people. I got the stare down and I'm best friends with the girl who was kidnapped." she shrugged and gave a half smile to Sam. "Just fair warnin' ya."

"I wasn't aware that things were quite that dire," Sam observed. "The outlaws who took your friend would spy on you, even if you were just setting up a meet-and-greet for a new friend?" His attention then turned to the last thing Cross said. "I appreciate the warning, but unless those friends who would attempt to scare me can effectively give an argument for loop quantum gravity over string theory, I don't think they'll be successful in their endeavors to intimidate me."

Cross raised her eyebrows and chuckled. "Well I doubt that would happen, but there's two of them that tend to be pretty violent." She commented thinking of Eva and Aiden. Especially Eva now that she had a baby; she had the whole maternal protection thing going on now. "Either way, I think they'd like you. They'd sure like a new and quick idea to get the psychos away from our friend. Although when you explain it to them, make sure you try and leave out some of the bigger words. Don't wanna confuse them too much when you first meet them."

"I'll try, but I can't make any promises," Sam told Cross. "It's difficult for me to express myself in a simpler vernacular without feeling like I'm patronizing the individuals to whom I'm addressing." And really, that was just the way Sam had been brought up. He didn't really know anyone who couldn't understand at least most of what he said, and he tended to steer clear of those who couldn't accomplish that. Confusion typically led to anger and violence, which was highly counterproductive to Sam's intentions.

Cross shook her head and chuckled to herself. "Well buddy, it seems you'll have a lot of explaining to do then. We're not all geniuses." Cross said standing up and stretching. She was getting tired of sitting in one spot so she chose to plop down on the ground and lay down on her back. Her feet were to Sam so if she propped her head up she could see him if she needed to. "So besides all this technology stuff, what do you do?" she asked looking up at the looming dark sky.

"What do you mean, 'what else do I do'?" Sam inquired, his expression genuinely curious. "Using technology and scientific progress to solve the world's problems and rid our city of this war is all I do. It is my life's passion, and I cannot fathom any better use of my efforts. Is there some other way in which I could benefit more from the life I have been given?" It probably would not occur to Cross, but to Sam, decoding complex equations and developing new technology was as much fun as partying would be to anyone else in his age group.

Cross sat on her elbows, the damp grass seeping through her sleeves, as she looked at Sam. "It's all good and stuff that you want to stop the war with all the technology but you don't have any other hobbies? Nothing silly like collecting rocks or I don't know eating goldfish?" she was trying to find some way to make Sam seem more like other kids her age. She just wanted to realize that even super smart kids had other interests.

"I used to have a collection of geological samples when I was younger," Sam tried. He could tell that Cross was having some trouble understanding that work and fun could be synonymous. "I found crystalline minerals in particular to be quite fascinating. Sadly, geology was and is child's play. I grew out of it, and I've never had much of a taste for seafood, nor one for ichthyology." It occurred to Sam as the words left his lips that perhaps Cross didn't understand just how important it was that Sam stop the madness around them. Until he knew how much he could trust her, she would have to remain in the dark about the even larger plan he had in store.

Cross rolled her eyes and laid back looking up at the sky again. "Yea, I only understood the first part of that. Whatever ology word you just used, I have no idea what that is." At least he used to have a rock collection, that's a hobby right? So he wasn't completely unlike other people... just a little smarter is all. "So why do you hate the war so much?" she asked. She was able to tell from his earlier speeches that he didn't like it as much as she did.
