Yukiko walked over the barely green grass in the soccer field, feeling the damp earth cave like a wet sponge beneath her feet. Sometimes if she stood in one place long water would well up over her shoes. Her socks were already soaked.
There was a sort of chill in the air; the kind that bites your lungs and makes you feel very awake. But Yukiko took no notice of this. She was lost in the complex world of her thoughts, becoming easily absorbed in her ideas and silent worries.
Headphones were firmly planted over the green-eyed teen's ears. The music was cranked up loudly, so that anyone passing by could easily hearing the pulsing beat of the drums and the occasional note from a guitar. This only added to the isolated air that drifted around her presence like a deep, inescapable fog.
Yukiko looked over at the worn nets that sat at either end of the field with a flicker of longing passing through her gaze before it settled back into the normal glassy impassive stare. Once she would have loved to run and played on the beaten down grass, but now she was more of a loner. She didn't play much, she only thought.
Besides, she had didn't have a ball. Or anyone to play with for that matter.

Madoka walked around, not paying much attention to where she was going. She was humming to herself a tune of a simple song she had come up with seconds ago, swinging her arms forward and backwards as she did. The brunette changed her style of walking until she was skipping merrily, smiling like she had thought of an inside joke of sorts. Her skip went faster and faster until she suddenly tripped and landed on the ground, her elbows hitting the ground before her back. Her right foot was sticking out in the air from her fall, not giving into the gravity like the rest of her body had.
Laughing loudly, Madoka let her foot drop to the ground as she adjusted the dog tag and cross that hung around her neck. She paused, suddenly getting the feeling someone was watching her. She turned to her left to see a girl with long brown hair. Madoka began to blush, feeling embaressed by her actions. She stood to her feet quickly, now a shy personality taking over her care free one prior noticing the girl.
She walked over to the girl slowly and sheepishly. It would be rude not to say anything, she thought to herself. Madoka held her hand up slightly, barely able to let a quiet, "Hello," escape her lips. She took a step back, noticing the headphones in the girl's ears. There was no way she heard the blue- eyed girl's tiny greeting. She blushed even more, regretting walking up to her in the first place.
"I'm such an idiot," she muttered quietly to herself.

Yukiko watched as another person skip along the field, seemingly more cheerful than she was. If she was saying anything it went completely unheard, at the fault of the loud music.
Suddenly the girl tripped, sprawling out strangely as gravity overtook her helpless body. Despite her calm demeanor, Yukiko had to fight of the urge to chuckle at the epic fall. The girl opened her mouth to laugh, but of course the sound didn't reach Yukiko's ears at all.
The girl walked slowly over to her, movements shy and feeble. She opened her mouth to say something, but all she heard were the lines of music dancing in her head, "
A tint of red flashed red the other girl's cheeks, and as she went to turn away Yukiko called out.
"Hey, sorry." She removed the headphones, draping them around her neck. The music was still audible, but now Yukiko could hear. "Sometimes I just get lost in my thoughts. I wasn't trying to ignore you." Her voice was quiet, tinged with shyness. But she didn't want to seem like a self-absorbed jerk.

Madoka turned back to the girl, who now had her headphones around her neck. She smiled sheepishly, wondering what to say next. The girl seemed just as shy as herself with the way she had spoken. This made Madoka feel a little more comfortable, knowing she wasn't talking with some jerk who thought she was better than her.
"Um, that's alright." she said with a little more confidence in her tone, though still having a hint of uncertainty. She jumped, realizing she should introduce herself. "I'm Madoka... Madoka Mizu. It's nice to meet you." She mumbled the last sentence, not wanting to sound like some goody- goody girl like people had called her in the past.
She held her hand out, partly meant to be a wave, and partly for a handshake if the girl accepted it as one.

Yukiko gazed at the girl's outstretched hand for a moment and took it in her own, shaking it breifly.
"I'm Yukiko Oshiro." She replied warmly. Silently she wondered why she hadn't seen Madoka around before. They were both part of the same clan... Well Yukiko had never been extremely social anyway, and from what she could tell her compainion was shy also. In a way that was... comforting.
A brief silence followed. Yukiko had never been great at striking up casual conversation, but she decided to try her best.
"Pretty cloudy, isn't it?" Was she really talking about the weather? That was pathetic!

Madoka's smile became more relaxed at this point. She nodded at Yukiko's comment, looking up at the sky. "I think it's pretty." She then looked around, trying to find something to talk about. She hadn't had a real conversation with anyone in a while, and she didn't want to mess up what could be gaining a new friend.
"So, um... what music where you listening to just now?" she asked, pointing to Yukiko's headphones, head tilted slightly to the side. Maybe she could start a conversation about music, one of her favorite topics besides Duel Monsters. "Is there any one type you listen to, or is it all random?" she tried not to get too carried away with her speaking, and decided to stop talking before she made a fool of herself.

"Oh a little of everything I suppose." Yukiko replied to Madoka's question. "Except rap. I can't really stand that." She quickly place one headphone to her ear to check what was playing. "I was listening to Three Days Grace, but now I think it's Within Temptation." Yukiko quickly caught herself before she started ranting, which, once she was comfortable, she had a horrible habbit of doing. "What sort of music do you like?" She asked curiously, hoping to keep the conversation going.

Madoka's face beamed suddenly. "I'm the same way! Rap never caught my attention. But I suppose country's the biggest type I've listened to." she paused for a moment. "Only because that's what my aunt always played around the house. It's grown on me over the years." she laughed softly. She was finally starting to lighten up around Yukiko. It was pretty fun so far. "What do you normally do for fun? I mean, besides listening to music and everything."

What do you like to do? The queestion almost caught Yukiko off-guard. When she really thought about it, she had numerous hobbies, though most were independent things, 'artsy' as well. That could be why she wasn't good with people...
"Drawing I suppose. I like to read and write too. I'm sort of artsy and bookish, all in all a nerd I guess." She laughed light-heartedly. If there was one thing Yukiko knew, it was that laughing at yourself always seemed to lighten a mood.

"Well, us nerds gatta stick together then, don't we?" Madoka asked jokingly. She was surprised at how much they had in common; she too was a bit of a bookworm/ artist, though she didn't have time to do such things much anymore. "I used to be like that, too. Strange, huh?"
Madoka was now pretty close to her fun and cheerful self once again. she began to giggle to herself, not knowing why. It was probably the joy of meeting another person somewhat like herself. People often didn't understand her, although she didn't mind it. It still felt good to know she wasn't a random freak, or even a freak at all.
She tried calming down from her short laughing fit and looked at Yukiko. "I'm sorry, I tend to laugh a lot, as you saw." she pointed to the place she tripped at a few minuets ago.

Yukiko couldn't help but laugh as well. The cheerful personality from her compainion was catching on quite easily.
"That's okay, I think everyone needs to laugh, even if it's totally random." She smiled. "Besides, I'm a bit of a clutz myself." Yukiko paused, still grinning slightly. Madoka was so much like her, it made talking to her much easier. And at least the conversation was progressing.
"So it's probably safe to assume you duel then?" Yukiko inquired warmly.

Madoka nodded, rubbing her arm. "I admit, I'm not too good... I've never won a duel. But I've been pretty close a few times!" she laughed slightly, taking out her deck and pulling out one certain card from it, Aqua Spirit. "This one's my favorite. I've had her since I was little. One boy who introduced me to the game gave it to me." She gently put it back into her deck before placing it back in her pocket, somehow managing to fit it in. "What about you? Got a favorite card?"

"Of course." Yukiko replied cheerfully, drawing her own deck out from a black, silver-studded belt that hung snuggly around her waist. It very useful, considering she often wore skirts, and the pocket attached was good for keeping cards in when she had nowhere else to put them.
Yukiko held up the card in question between her middle and index finger, displaying it proudly. "This is Reflect Bounder." She explained quickly. "It's not too powerful, but I find it very useful. It's in every deck I've ever made." She held up the next card in her deck after a pause.
"Though this one was my first, Neo the Magic Swordsman. It'll always been special to me, I guess. It's what got me going!" She let out another smile before placing her deck back in it's proper place. "Though I'm not exactly the best either. I've beaten my brothers multiple times, but that's not saying a whole lot."

Madoka smiled warmly at Yukiko. "It sure beats my record, though." she then giggled.
She suddenly stretched her arms out and slowly tilted back until she eventually came in contact with the grass beneath her. She thenput her hands behind her head and crossed her legs, still laying down. She continued to look up at the sky as she spoke. "I can't really explain it, but I feel so... bonded with my cards. It's almost like we share a mind, weird as it sounds. Especially with Aqua Spirit." Madoka grinned to herself as she thought about her upcoming words. "In duels, I can feel her prensence right before drawing her from my deck to my hand. Then, once I'm holding her card, I feel like she's standing right beside me."
Madoka shook her head. She was probably sounding insane. Duel monsters... could they have a soul? She was almost positive they could, but there were times when she just wasn't so sure.
"Uh, well... that's just me." she then laughed off. "I'm weird like that."

"That's fine." Yukiko laughed. She too dropped down onto the grass, though she remained sitting up, crossing her legs beneath her. "I guess I feel that way sometimes too." She titled her head to the side thoughtfully, green eyes wandering the paler shade of grass as she fingered a blade gentley. "It's just... unexplainable."
Suddenly, a bit of her head felt a bit wet. Yukiko blinked, looking up just as another drop of water hit her on the nose. It was starting to rain.
