"Yup, let's go." Jack tugged her though the door and down into a winding staircase bridging the outer rim of the inside of the tower. An elevator was closing a little farther down the steps carrying away the technician. Jack noted this and dashed passed it towards a door beyond it.

Hotaru followed him down the stairs and towards a door on the following floor. When they walked through, they made it to the oustide. She unwillingly took a peek over similar guard- railing to see just as much of a fall to the ground than the last floor was. She quickly took a step back. "Yep, my first real phobia." she laughed off, turning to Jack.

"If it's your first, I'd say you're either really brave or really stupid." He chuckled, peering over the edge. "Considering you're dating me, it's probably the latter." The rail was a little lower than the other one, but higher up equals more safety, a floor or two down would have a shorter railing. Just goes to show that saving money on materials is more important than worker safety in some places.

Hotaru couldn't help but grin. "Probably so, I'm kinda going through another personality change being around you lately." she kissed his cheek again, still feeling a little jumpy from the near fall. "In a good way, though. It beats still being a loner, wouldn't you say?"

Jack nodded. "Can't say I've ever really been a loner. I like people, not mobs of them, but in small doses they aren't half bad." A light breeze blew across the platform, stirring the half-inch of dust that had accumulated in the corner and nudging on the duo's hair.

Hotaru tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear at the breeze. "It's no fun, trust me. You feel all closed off, isolated, lonely..." she frowned a bit, but smiled again when she looked at him again. "But I guess that's why it's called being a Loner, huh?"

Jack nodded, "That's what I thought, but it could have been one of those things where it sounds nothing like it is. Like a business vacation sounds fun but it really isn't." He smiled and looked up at the now risen sun as it cast it's rays upon the city beneath. He quirked a brow.
"How long were we inside? Seriously?" He was puzzled. The sun never rose this fast when he was alone. Probably the whole 'Time flies when you're having fun' thing, the statement was proven true time and time again with Hotaru and it seemed to be the same here as well.

Hotaru was equally confused."Not sure, I don't carry a watch around, much." She looked at the sky for a moment, but brought her eyes back to what was in front of her. For some reason, it still hurt her eye slightly even ifshe wasn't looking directing into the sun.
She rubbed her head a little bit, still grinning surprisingly. The Tora realized that she was smilin a lot more since she had met Jack. "Time flies, I suppose?"

"Yeah, I wonder what airline it uses. I need to find it in case I ever have to flee the country." Jack joked, shading his eyes slightly. His stomach gave a twinge of hunger, feeling rather neglected after not receiving breakfast.
The city beneath them slowly began to awaken, bringing with it the general hubbub of weekday mornings. School buses darted about and an occasional flashy car darted over to city hall followed by a minivan or other family car. Jack frowned.
"Too many kids are being drafted." He sighed.

The Tora nodded in agreement. "It's sad." she said, looking towards City Hall. "Kids shouldn't be exposed to war at that age, it's just wrong." she also let out a sigh. "But, the government is greedy, we can't do much about it."

"Well, not unless you want to get carted off to the middle of nowhere and be stranded for the rest of your days." Jack squinted at City hall, the biggest structure in the city that symbolized the government's power and influenced over everything. Even the run down Oasis School was dwarfed in comparison of the gigantic building, and that was saying something.
"Funny, you think the Government would make enemies with all the people it ticks off." He grinned wryly, placing his hands in his pockets. "After all, even if we can't do anything, another country might be able to." Considering all the child labor, old nations would have gotten miffed. Whatever was left of them either hadn't noticed, was too busy rebuilding, or just didn't care.

"Yeah, like in World War II." She shrugged. "Just a few thousand years ago, but we need the same thing, just about."
Staring blankly at City Hall, Hotaru really couldn't think of why anyone hadn't come to help them yet in the first place. If the Government could be stopped, maybe there was hope to end the war peacefully, after all.

Jack grinned as the idea of how quickly the government would crumble filled his mind. "Yeah, if someone were to lend a hand then it'd be over in a flash. The government would have to split its focus between them and us and the whole thing would just end." He sighed and leaned on the railing. "Makes you wish for one of those old general guys to suddenly rise from the dead and take charge, don't it?"

Hotaru laughed a little. "Yeah, if only." She put her back against the railing, not wanting to look over her shoulder too much.
"Let's think of a happier topic to talk about, hm?" she asked Jack. "Talking too much about the war tends to get a little depressing."

"True." Jack said with a chuckle and switched the topic. "When you were little, what did you want to grow up to be?" He asked, not entirely sure where he had gotten the subject change from.
