Hotaru nodded once again, beginning to smile. "That's right." she said, impressed. "You're smart and positive. I really do respect that." She sat down on the sand, pulling her legs to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. "Come on, sit with me." she said to Yukiko politely.

Yukiko smiled somewhat. "Thank-you." She murmured, slowly sliding down until she was sitting down, her feet digging deep into the cool sand. Her green eyes looked out onto the ocean, and her hair was ruffled by the salty breeze. Yukiko let out a sigh of content. It was so peaceful here... she could forget everything.
"The ocean is really nice." she spoke softly, yet her voice sounded loud over the previous silence. "You never seem to worry about anything here..."

Hotaru nodded her head in agreement. "It's really peaceful. I wish more places here were like this."
The red head fell back onto the sand, her long hair spreading out around her to coincidentally look like the flames from a Phoenix. She sighed softly, relaxed. She laid her hands over her stomach, turning her attention to the sky. "Wow, the sky seems a lot more clear than the last time I was here." she said, grinning.

"It is rather blue, isn't it?" Yukiko replied with a small grin. In truth, the sky was beautiful. It was the sort of explosive blue that you could never find the boundaries in. There was no begining and no ending, just one endless, azure mass. Fluffy white clouds drifted lazily past, so close and large that Yukiko felt as if she could reach up and pluck one clean out of the sky.
"I should come here more often." She stated with a contented sigh. There weren't many places in Hatsu Itonami as peaceful as this one. The city was often a busy place, and there weren't any places you could truly lose yourself in.

"Yeah, this is only my second time here, but I think I'm gonna start coming more often." she smirked. "Or at least try."
Hotaru closed her eyes for a moment, letting the peaceful silence flow for a little longer. "So tell me, Yukiko," she said, sitting up once again. "You obviously aren't for the war. What would you want to do to stop it? How would you show people that fighting wasn't the answer?" Hotaru enjoyed hearing other people's opinions about the war going on, leading her to ask that question.

Yukiko had to take a pause before answering that question. She already knew she wasn't for the war, and she had already had this conversation in previous times as well. Yet, how still remained a question.
"Everything's like a drop in the ocean I guess." She said after awhile. "Even though one tiny drop seems insignificant, together it's one giant, unstoppable force. People can be the same. If you can convince others that conflict isn't the answer, eventually that mass of peopel will grow." She paused. "But how to convince them still remains I guess. Some people don't listen... but I have yet to meet one who hasn't." Yukiko stopped them, once again losing herself in the open sky.

Hotaru nodded to every word the girl said. "I knew lots of people that only cared for war." she dragged her hand against the sand to make a pattern. "They're not alive anymore, though. That urge to fight became their end."
She shook her head in disapproval at the men that came into mind. "The idiots were so prepared for battle when they were confident they would win, but when the tables turned, they became sissys begging to live."

Yukiko was unsure of what to say in response to any of her compainion's statements. Clearly she had been through more than Yukiko herself could possibly imagine. She, being her naturally curious self, wanted to know more about this girl who called herself 'Phoenix'. But it didn't feel right to ask. Instead she settled for...
"So you've been through a lot, huh?"

Hotaru nodded, staring blankly at the ocean waves. "More than you know." She blinked a few times as the memories ran through her mind in constant flashes.
"I watched people important to me die for my sake. It messes you up, kid. That much is for sure." she looked at Yukiko, trying to smile. "But on the up side, it makes you want to live life as best as you can for the people that wanted what was best for you. Pretty soon, people I might not have met otherwise started popping into my life." She went silent and waited for the brunette to respond.

Yukiko nodded in agreement. "If there's one thing I've learned lately, is that all you need is one small adjustment to make a big change. I started talking to one person, and now I'm not the loner I used to be..." She smiled softly. "Kinda like ripples I guess. I starts small and just keeps getting bigger..." Yukiko let out a laugh. "Lately all my thoughts are based on water..."

Hotaru smiled and nodded. "Water's a positive symbol... most of the time." she added, laughing to herself. "It represents healing, rebirth, and a lot of other things I can't really come up with right now."

"Hm..." Yukiko paused thoughtfully. "That's a good point. It could explain why I like that rain and ocean so much... Though clear skies seem to be a blessing today." The green-eyed teen blinked, her gaze still stuck on the brillant blue that was cast like a never-ending blanket over the pair. Normally she enjoyed a good layer of gloomy clouds, but not today...

Hotaru nodded again. "Probably." she closed her eyes and smirked. "Though strangely enough, fire can also symbolize rebirth." she sighed a little, opening her eyes again. "I'm personally more attracted to fire, it describes me pretty well." she waited for a moment, then added. "Fire can also be a good symbol, though not many people think so."

"I can see that." Yukiko replied thougthfully. "Fire can be dangerous, but when used in right way, it can be helpful, beautiful even. I mean, even though it can be destructive, it clears space for new life to grow." She paused to think for a minute or two and then continued her ramblings. "Sort of like with a phoenix." Yukiko said softly. "From the ashes- new life is born..."

Hotaru nodded her head, smirking at Yukiko's words. "Exactly." If only the Ookami knew...
"It's strange how opposites can have something in common." she said, not paying attention to much around her.
