Kotori sighed and leaned back in her seat. Their usual teacher wasn't in today, so instead they had a substitute who basically called for a free day for the class(probably so she could text whoever it was on that phone she wouldn't put let go of). That was fine, she hated her Language arts class as it was so having a day without work was pretty freakin' awesome to the little gunslinger in training. Still, wasn't like there was much to do to pass the time.
She was beginning to think she should pick up a hobby that wasn't illegal inside a school.

Meredith could have died.
It was tough enough being in a class with bigger kids than her (PAINFULLY obviously bigger kids, really) let alone being in there solely due to her test scores. But being there alone? With no friends to speak of? When there wasn't any work to keep her mind off of things?
Merry was a hop a skip and a jump away from a meltdown. What was she supposed to do? Sit there quietly for an hour until the bell rang for lunch? She hadn't even brought a book from her locker because it was supposed to be a busy day... She stared down at her desk and restrained the urge to whimper in dismay.

In her quest to find something to cure her boredom, Kotori's eyes landed on another girl who didn't seem to be handling the free time as well as other kids in class were. She had seen her before, it was kind of hard to miss her with that hair(what YOUNG person had white hair anyway?).
So her options were either to see if the girl was in need of some company, or act like she hadn't even noticed her like some jerk. The choice was obvious really.
The brunette got up and sat in the empty desk beside the other girl and poked her desk to get her attention. "Hey girly, look like you need someone to talk to right about now." She spoke a little quietly at first so not to startle her, that wouldn't be too good now would it?

Merry jerked upright at the voice- someone was actually talking to her. Talking. To her. He stared, owl-eyed, at the girl that had spoken (she looked nice enough...) and blinked. "Um..." She started quietly, barely audible over the rowdier students a few desks over. "Was... was that a question or a statement?"
That... wasn't probably the best way to start a conversation.
"I uh," she stammered. "Um... Thank you." At least it was a distraction.

Tori giggled a little, this could be fun. The girl seemed sweet, if anything she'd found her distraction for the next hour. "No problem." She smiled and held out a hand. "Kotori Mednick-Martelli at your service~" She giggled. "Let's go with Tori though. Easier to say, yeah?" The whole double last name thing was alright until it came to writing it down in class, so she normally just switched between the two or simply put a 'M' since it could stand for either. It was fun to say though, so that was something.

Merry smiled shyly... She seemed nice... And with the double last names... would it be too much to presume they had a similar sort of family? She hoped it wasn't too much to think so. She'd have to ask later. "My name's Meredith Wallis-Kline, but Merry works." It would be what her friends called her if she had any...

Kotori beamed. "Nice to meet'cha Merry~" And ooohh she had two last names TOO. It'd be kinda rude to ask though, wouldn't it? The girl was pretty shy as it was, she didn't wanna make her uncomfortable with personal questions, not yet at least.
So, onto different topics. "Ya know, I don't really see you in this hall very much." She'd be easy to spot just based on her hair. "You one of them smart cookies or somethin'?"

Merry just blinked a bit. Conversation... Right... Right that wasn't something she had all that much experience with, but it couldn't be too hard to do. "I, uh," she said, brushing her hair back out of nerves. "I just read a lot... That's why I'm here." When you had already read all the required readings for the class you were supposed to be in, and had done the work early... well there wasn't much else to do, was there?

Tori smiled, so she was a book worm huh? "My cousin's the same way, reads a bunch and all." Gabe wasn't as bad about it as he use to be when they were younger(not that it was a bad thing), but he still had way more books in his possession than Tori had ever bothered reading. The Kuma didn't see the fun in it really, she'd much rather wait until the movie came out and watched that.

"It's fun," Merry said with a smile. "Um..." She lapsed back into her shyness quick as a whip. She... really didn't know what to say. Maybe... Maybe continue? She only really talked to Karina and by now they were so close she could make huge jumps and have her sister follow because of shared experiences... How in the world did talking to regular people happen? "What about you?" She tried feebly.

Kotori blinked and gave a small laugh, rubbing the back of her neck a little. "Well uh, I like guns." She said rather quietly with a goofy grin. She figured she'd better explain quickly before Merry thought she was a psycho or something. "My parents work at the shooting range in town, so I've pretty much grown up around that stuff." Not too many people at school knew about her hobby, mainly because she was kind of scared to see some of their reactions upon hearing it. Not that EVERYONE would freak out if they found out, but you never knew.

Merry simply stared. "...Wow." Was all she managed to say. That had certainly smashed any barriers she was putting up on accident, that had completely blindsided the white haired girl. "I... Can't say I was expecting that..."

Kotori laughed. "Yeah, most people don't." She was one of the least threatening people in the world at first glance, who on earth would expect her to be packing heat? She shrugged a little and smiled. "It's fun though, I'm pretty good~" For her age at least, she still had a long way to go to be as good as the adults were.

Merry just blinked a bit owlishly... Guns were, well, they were dangerous! They caused so many deaths and honestly they frightened her, how could people like them? "How is it fun?" She asked timidly. "Aren't you scared at all?"

"Not at all." Came Tori's rather easy reply. "I've been around them all my life just about, never really had a reason to be afraid of them." There'd never been any accidents that she was aware of, all the adults knew their way around firearms blindfolded. She could only hope to be that good one day, hopefully with enough practice she will.
She shrugged a little and smiled. "They're only bad if bad people are holding them, otherwise they're for protecting people or showing up someone with target practice." The little Kuma giggled a little at that. "I've beat my cousin so many times, poor Gabe." Though now that she thought about it, Gabe hadn't been shooting recently. There were reasons for it, she knew, but she really hoped he got back on it soon.
