Gabe sighed to himself just as he finished getting things set up to close for the night. Most everyone had already left, he knew Anya was gone already and Kotori had been in a rush to get out(something about a date, Gabe suggested getting to meet the guy first but Tori denied on the account of he scared off too many guys for her as it was).
Actually, he was pretty sure Satoru was still here, and that was pretty convenient; Gabe need to talk to him. He knew Satoru was going to retire soon, and he couldn't help but be curious over what would all go into that. He could just ask right? He was the guy's son after all.

Satoru was indeed still there. He was usually the last to leave, there was no reason for him to be really, but he liked double checking everything. Made him feel better knowing that everything was in order like it should be. Struck him as kind of funny that in a couple more years he wouldn't be the one worrying about it anymore. Someone else would step up and handle it all. It was a little bittersweet, he'd have more time for himself and Keith (and Gabe, should the kid- well, young man now, but he'd never stop being the little kid he once was to the gunslinger) but he'd spent so much time and energy at the range that it'd be a pity to just... let it go.
He probably wouldn't even fully let go of it, knowing him. He'd still show up, want to see how it was going... It'd been his for around thirty years, it would be hard to let go...
And he still needed to find someone who wanted to take it on. Mina was a good choice, but she had just laughed at the idea of actually doing what Satoru did. Aside from that, engineering paid a hell of a lot better, and while she still loved the range like a second home and came in as much as she could... Well, she had other responsibilities. Egil could have if he was better with business, but he wasn't aggressive enough, nor did he want the responsibility.
Honestly, he was hopeful Gabe might want to, but the Kuma hadn't made any indication about it. Hell, Satoru hadn't even told him he was planning to retire yet.
The gunslinger rolled himself back into the main room, restraining a smile at seeing Gabe there. He'd admit it, the kid grew up well.

"And the old man's still kicking." Gabe said as he felt the presence of someone else in the room, turning around to sure enough see his stepdad(boss too of course, but it was just too strange to call him that). It was so weird to think that what, a little less than ten years ago they would yell and argue just for being in the same room? It honestly felt even longer than that, the two got along great now.

"And one of my favorite jackasses decided to hang around, lucky me." He replied with a smirk as he restrained a laugh. "You could have headed home, you know," he reminded Gabe. He did like having the kid around, but the Kuma probably could have used the sleep. Twenty-five was one of those ages that you learned to love sleep, or maybe that had just been him...

Gabe grinned a little and shrugged. "Could have, decided not to." He liked making sure everything was in place before he left, even if Satoru would just end up doing the same after he was gone. What could he say, he grew up around this place, it just felt right being here.
"And I might have had a reason to stick around too." The blond added, leaning against a wall. "Tori mentioned something about you trying to retire soon, that true?" It was about damn time if you asked him.

Oh boy, looked like Egil had let the news slip to Tori... Or, more likely, Tori had overheard on her own, he certainly hadn't told her though. He leaned back in his chair and gave a nod. "Yeah, not for a little while at least, the range is going to deal with me for a year or two longer but..." Well, he'd had enough money to retire for a while now, living frugally when he was still in the clans had certainly helped. He let the statement trail off, Gabe could draw his own conclusions easily enough. The kid was smart.

"But you need a successor." Gabe finished easily enough. Made sense, finding someone to take over the range was a big deal, no way in hell Toru was going to give it over to just anyone. It did make the blond curious though. "Anyone in mind?" There wasn't really anyone he could think of that would be able to do everything the ex-Tora managed to do, not successfully anyways. Though he did think of himself as a pretty good candidate, how typical would it be to pass the range down to his kid?

"Been narrowing down the list," he said with a shrug. "And the list isn't exactly long to start with," that came with a bit more of a frown. "Mina and Egil both don't need the added responsibility, though they're definitely qualified..." He shrugged. "There are others, of course, but in the end there aren't too many I'd trust with this place." Hell, he could actually count on one hand the people he really trusted.
"Was thinking," he said after a moment. Ther'd be no better time to bring it up, really... "That maybe you could, but, well, that one's up to you." He shook his head. He could always sell the place if Gabe was against it... but after him the only other person on the list was Kotori, and for all he loved the kid she was definitely not going to be in charge of the place.

Gabe raised a brow, but otherwise didn't give away much of a reaction. So he actually was thinking about it, huh? Had to admit, he was flattered. "And you think I'm qualified?" He asked as a small hint of a smirk came up on his face. Honestly, he would love to take over the range someday, nothing would make him happier, but he still wanted to know what was going on through the older man's head to make a decision like that.

"I think you're a smartass that knows better than I do why he doesn't wanna go to college," Satoru said. "And I know you're a fast learner, you'll pick up on what you need to know easily enough. You know how to shoot, you've spent plenty of time working here..." He shrugged. "And you're sane enough for growing up around your dad and I, so I figure you can handle whatever gets thrown at you." And he trusted Gabe, but that went without saying. Besides, if he screwed up or needed help even after Satoru retired, he'd still be able to get into contact with him.
Seemed like a good idea all around.

"Stop it Toru, you're making me blush." Gabe teased as he grinned a little wider. It was all true though, the blond wouldn't bother being modest about that. He stood up straight and nodded. "But yeah, I'd love to."

Satoru grinned. Perfect. "Great, I'll start showin' ya what's-what on Monday." For now, he wanted to go home, fall asleep, and then enjoy the hell out of his Sunday. And it would give him some time to work out what exactly he'd have to show the Kuma.

"Sounds good." Gabe said with a grin equal to the one on Satoru. The blond held it in well, but he was pretty damn excited. How couldn't he be? He'd been surrounded by tattoos and guns most his life, but even when they didn't get along Gabe had always found himself leaning towards his stepdad's profession. It had just always appealed to him more, and the fact that he didn't have a single tattoo while he DID keep his pistols on him twenty-four/seven should have been proof alone of that.
For now though, he wouldn't mind heading back to his little apartment himself. "Guess that's that then, I'm out." He gave a short wave to Satoru as he turned to leave. "See ya."
