Gabe was currently sitting in the living room, skipping through channels on the television to see if there'd be anything to cure his boredom for the moment. He had actually phoned ahead this time to warn the other two men of the house that he'd be over(meaning he called his dad and Satoru ended up finding out through him). Was it surprising? Yeah, definitely, but he actually had a reason this time, and as much as it bothered him, it meant having to talk to the one person he'd been avoiding for the longest time.
As far as the blond knew, his father would be at the shop late due to a rather complicated project, which meant it would just be him and his step dad whenever he got there. Gabe was still trying to figure out whether that would be for the best or not.

Satoru was actually back pretty early. Egil had overheard the term 'Gabe's home' when Keith let the gunslinger know, and obviously the Swede had decided that was reason enough to shoo his boss out. Stupid irreplaceable employees... He knew how awkward (and downright aggressive, really) things got with him and Gabe. There was no way this would be a good idea.
Especially since Keith was busy at the shop, there was no one to get between them if things got bad. Oh boy...
He opened the door and headed in, keeping his expectations for that night's outcome as low as possible.

Gabe jumped just a little when he heard the door click open, so Satoru was early and he still didn't know exactly how he wanted to word things? Well wasn't this great. The blond kept his eyes on the tv, even though he wasn't really sure what the hell was on, and he rubbed the back of his neck. "Uhh, hey." He muttered awkwardly, not really sure how else to greet him.
This sure would be a fun night.

Satoru could have winced at how awkward the greeting was. If that was the tone for tonight... well, at least they wouldn't wind up with horrible injuries. That was... something. "Hey..." He nodded towards the kitchen. "Gonna make some food, want anything?" His cooking had thankfully improved over the nearly two decades since meeting Keith, and while he was no chef he could make things that were edible.
Besides, maybe it would buy him time.

Gabe looked up from his seat. He'd have to force himself to say SOMETHING tonight that wouldn't be totally uncomfortable. He shook his head slightly. "Nah, I ate before I got here, but I'll go in there." He stood up and put his hands in his pockets. "I, uh… I kinda need to talk to you 'bout something." Might as well get it over with as soon as possible, he just hoped this wouldn't be too bad of a subject to bring up.

Well there went Plan A. He gave a nod and limped in, grabbing some... well, they had bread and meat, a sandwich would do. And would have a lower chance of burning the house down. Not that that had happened in years, but still, once bitten and all that. "Sure, fire away," he said as he started on his sandwich making.

Gabe followed Satoru into the kitchen and leaned against one of the counters. Deep breath, just say what comes to mind. "So, I've been talking to Fei, and she uh, she gets these nightmares." He'd rather not explain how he found out, as innocent as the situation at the time really was.
"She's adopted, came from New Tokyo, like you said you had." He looked over at the shorter man. "I remember you having nightmares and all," There were a few times as a kid when it would end up waking him up because of it, but he'd never questioned it before. Then there had been other times when Satoru just would sleep, or couldn't, that might have been a better word to chose. "I was just wondering if there was something I could do to help her, and you're the only one that would really know so…" He trailed off, leaving the thought there for his stepdad to pick up on. He just wanted to know if there was a way to help Fei, and he was the only person he could really go to on advice.

Satoru's grip tightened on the handle of the knife he was using as Gabe talked, and he forced himself to put it down. New Tokyo... dammit, now he brought it up... It made sense, he supposed, but it didn't make him want to have the conversation any more than he would have a dozen years ago. "...I don't know," he replied, abandoning his sandwich for now to turn and face Gabe. "What exactly do you know about New Tokyo?"

Gabe frowned, he really should have expected the mood to change the way it did, but for some reason it hadn't really crossed his mind when he tried planning this out. "Not much, just that it's bad news, really…" He answered truthfully. "M-maybe this was a bad idea, forget I said anything." He shouldn't have come over in the first place, he should have known better than to bring this stuff up. If Fei had been traumatized by it when she was only three, then who knew how Satoru would have been affected. As much as he didn't get along with him, he wasn't heartless.

Satoru's eyes narrowed. "No, what do you know?" He asked again, a little harsher this time. "You wanna help your girlfriend, you gotta learn what the hell that place is like, know where she's coming from." He took a breath, to both calm down and try and steady himself. "So, tell me exactly what you know about there, and then we'll... we'll go from there." The gunslinger wasn't going to reveal his goddamned life story to his stepson, but he wasn't going to let Gabe try and comfort Fei without having an idea what it might have been like. "Because empathy is fucking important," he half mumbled.

Gabe sighed and hung his head for a second before looking back at Satoru. "First off, she's not my girlfriend, not yet anyway." He paused and scratched his head. "And I really don't know that much, she was little when it happened, but she said the nightmares were still pretty vivid. Said she remembers gunshots, and screaming…" He couldn't begin to imagine what that must have felt like. "So aside from that, I'm basically clueless."

Satoru nodded. "If it was just sounds and not visuals, she was probably hidden... Probably in a closet, was where a lot of parents hid their kids when they were little." He had fuzzy memories of being shoved into one by a woman himself, it was likely his mother... Probably taking a client or something, if the jibes about his whore mother were true. And, really, they likely were.
He actually smiled. "If that's it, then it shouldn't be too hard to help... Just let her control what happens after she wakes up, be there for her..." At least Fei sounded like she'd have an easier time of it than Satoru did. "Anchor her, make sure she keeps breathing..." He shook his head. "That city was hell on Earth... Probably still is, if cops are as incompetent as I remember..."

Gabe listened and nodded as he finished. Now the only issue was actually BEING there when she woke up from them, the first time had been a total accident from falling asleep in the lounge at the dorms. How was he suppose to help if he wasn't there with her when it happened next time?
Well, that was his own problem to figure out, no point in voicing that thought. "Right, yeah thanks." He muttered, looking back down at the floor. "…How long were you there?" He was curious, but at the same time he wasn't really sure if he should even be asking any of this. He got what he originally came over for, but it had gone over smoother than he thought it would have and now he just wasn't sure what else to do.

Satoru thought for a moment. "I was born there," he replied. "And I managed to leave when I was twenty..." His fingers twitched, itching for a cigarette to at least roll between his fingers. "I was real little when I wound up in the mob, too... only a little older than Fei was when she left the city." Blood and violence had been a universal constant in his life. It was almost strange to just... not do it anymore. Strange and freeing and almost depressing. "They got kids young, brought 'em up to be loyal... They were my family."

The mob, huh? That… actually made a lot of sense the more that Gabe thought about it. "Why'd you leave if that was the case?" He was just trying to wrap his head around everything. He'd never taken the time to get to know Satoru, and now he was actually pretty interested.
