Cross smiled triumphantly. "Just one sip is all that's needed I promise. Though when I find one I like I just may take it home with me." she said chuckling. Wine was said to be good for you while also easy to get drunk on and a wonderful cooler down. She called Freed over and ordered a few tasting glasses of several red wines. She passed a glass of the first one to Sam and took the other for herself. "Did I mention that these glasses are the best? Cause they definitely are." she said thinking out loud. Wine glasses were just perfect. The small amount of red liquid sloshed at the bottom as she swirled her cup. "Alright here it goes." she said tipping back the small amount of alcohol. It was a strange taste, not really her style. Too bold. She made a small face and set the cup aside. "That's a no go for me."

Sam followed Cross's example and tried the wine. "No go" was right. He managed to swallow it, and mentally teetered on the edge between acting mockingly snobbish and putting on a childish facade.
"It tastes like I just put a Sharpie in my mouth..." Sam groaned, deciding on childish and sticking out his tongue. Were he at home, his parents would have admonished him for such a display, but he felt all right acting a bit silly around Cross.

Cross chuckled and nodded. "Exactly! It really does. Let's hope the next two taste better." she took the next glass and passed Sam the corresponding one. "Here goes nothing." She said before take a drink of the wine. She swished it in her mouth surprised before she swallowed. "Wow, this ones really good. It's like I can taste the grapes they made it with. Sweet yet tangy and bold." she looked over at Sam expectantly. "Alright Sammy, your turn!" she announced happily.

Sam did as Cross said and tried the wine. It still tasted a bit pungent, but it was nowhere near as bad as the first wine. "Eh, it's tolerable," he said in review. "I don't prefer the weird aftertaste that the fermentation presents, but the initial grape flavor is rather pleasant." He imagined Cross would take a bottle of this stuff home with her, and found that thought inexplicably amusing.

Cross chuckled and smiled. "I like it, but let's see what other one Freed has for us. I'm only sticking to the red wines. The ones are entirely too potent and unpleasant." she said taking the last glasses and handing Sam a glass. She swished it around in the glass and took a drink. It was a softer tasting wine with a smoother taste. "Hmmm, I'm not quite sure what I think of this one." she said to Sam. "You try it now."

"Whatever you say," Sam said, swirling the contents of his glass and sipping. It tasted like an alcoholic version of those brands of grape juice that always seemed too weak to actually be juice. The flavor was mild and pleasant, but it lacked the tanginess that grapes were supposed to lend to a beverage. "I'm sure that this will sound unorthodox, coming from me, but I actually found that one to be a bit boring," Sam said in review. Of the three, maybe the second one was really worth actually drinking, but the alcohol taste still bothered Sam a bit.

Cross nodded and set it down. "I think you're right. It just doesn't have that fun kick to it." she waved Freed over again. "I want a bottle of the second one to take home." she said to the man with a bright smile. "I'm going to be good and hold off on drinking it I promise." she added when the bartender gave her a stern look.
Freed chuckled and went around to the back room muttering under his breath about crazy girls. "Hey old man I heard that!" she called leaning back. She heard his returning laugh and shrugged. "Freed loves to give me a hard time sometimes." she told Sam with a chuckle. "He doesn't seem to think I can hold my own. Boy is he wrong."

"I'll say," Sam agreed with a nod. "Of all the people I know, the number of which does not encompass more than two digits, the first of which does not exceed the value of two, you seem the most capable of effective self-reliance." Sam said this with admiration; a bit more than he had wanted to let show, but when everyone else you knew was sort of meek and reserved, a spunky individual like Cross was quite the breath of fresh air.

Cross chuckled and bowed slightly from her seated position. It wasn't often that people appreciated her self-reliance. "Why thank ya." she replied happily with a cheeky grin. Sam just kept dishing out the compliments, not that she was complaining. She didn't get too many of them lately with all the drama going on. "You need to know more people." she added poking out her tongue teasingly.

Sam raised an eyebrow at Cross, acknowledging the fact that she was teasing. He then nodded.
"I recognize that as fact, yes," he replied, half humble and half playing along with the joke. He then added a shrug. "That being said, I am virtually powerless to connect with other individuals without a social catalyst. I am... how should I put this...? A specimen whose traits are scarce within the indigenous population."

Cross was on the verge of inebriation so some of the words he used didn't comprehend to her. Instead she giggled. "So what I took from that is that you're not like others and you need someone to steer you into the social direction?" she said, her statement sounding like a question.

Sam's eyes opened so wide, he was certain that his contacts were in danger of falling out.
"... Yes, that is exactly what I was attempting to convey," he replied, unable to keep the astonishment from his voice. Feeling that clarification was a necessity, Sam continued. "Under normal circumstances, I would not be anywhere near surprised - let alone astounded - to hear you interpret that correctly. However, your alcohol intake guarantees some... deficiencies concerning your comprehensive capabilities. Clearly, your ability to... How was it that you put it? Hold your own?" Sam nodded to himself, confirming his recollection of the exact wording. "Yes, clearly, your ability to hold your own is remarkable beyond measure."

Cross threw a wink at him and took a sip of whatever drink she was now drinking. She knew it was sweet and very tasty, that was about it. "I'm smarter than I look." she replied with a grin. "And I could have told you I hold my alcohol well." she added followed by a slight giggle. "Though I must tell you now-- considering I'm on the fast track to getting drunk-- I'm a tad bit more... social... while drunk." she giggled at the thought and took another drink of her sweet mixed drink. "Might I add, I love Freed, that man knows exactly what drinks work best."

"That's... I fail to see the logic in that vocal paragraph," Sam said uncertainly. "You say that you are more social when drunk, and that Freed is skilled in delivering beverages which are effective to that end, yet you seem socially limber without the influence of alcohol." If there was a hidden meaning to Cross's statement, it was utterly lost before it could get anywhere near Sam's brain.

Cross giggled again. She tended to giggle more often while tipsy. "Oh... you'll see." she replied singing it slightly. She giggled again and sipped her drink. "You know, I wonder what you'd be like drunk." she mused staring at Sam with her head cocked to the side slightly. She reached over and ruffled his hair playfully.
