Jack perked up a bit at the mention of his older brother, cutting off the glare as he adopted a more curious expression. "You've seen him?" He asked, "Is he awake? How's he doing?" The Ookami managed to stop the flood of questions there, he was pretty sure the rest of the queries would be better suited to asking one of the doctors. Namely Eva's brother.

Eva sighed. She had to think of something to tell them. She couldn't say that Aiden had amnesia and he thought his family had left him there, could she? Even she had enough heart for the guy to not wanna tell him.
"He's..." she started, trying to think of how to explain. "He's a little off in the head, but he recalled the fight enough to tell me somethin' when I was leavin'." she looked Jack straight in the eye, feeling a bit sorry for him. "He said it was pretty obvious that you've chosen Hotaru over him, and that it'd be best for him not to see you, at least not anytime soon..."
She didn't want to lie, it was the same thing Locke was doing to Aiden practically. Still, she would much rather prefer hearing that her brother was fine and just didn't want to talk to her, than hearing they didn't know her at all and thought his whole family was gone. It was a tough choice, but she didn't think she had much of a choice. It was the most heart she would probably show Lover Boy, but she wasn't sure if she was doing the right thing or not. She hoped he believed her.
Hotaru listened to Eva, shocked at what she had heard. She took Jack's hand and squeezed it a little, not sure if she should say anything at the moment.

It took a moment for Jack to fully register the words (and their implications) and actually make a reaction. "Wha..?" Was his first response. Incoherent, a little shocked. Mostly because this wasn't the Aiden sort of thing his brother would do. Then again, what had he been expecting other than this? Amnesia? A magical button to make things right again? Things didn't work like that in real life, and he had in fact chosen Hotaru over his brother when it came to this.
He felt his hand being squeezed, but didn't return it, he was too far gone in his thoughts.
Still... without Aiden looming over his shoulder, there was suddenly a large weight off of his shoulders and mind. He wasn't used to it, and it almost made him feel like he was floating. He swallowed and shut his mouth, shaking himself out of his reverie with as much force as he could muster. It was surprisingly little. He was quiet for another moment, then spoke. "...It doesn't really sound like Aiden..." He began, reminding himself that if his brother was 'a little off in the head' like Eva had described, he probably was thinking different. Maybe even being sane. "...but I'll respect that wish." He wanted to see his brother now, not for much other reason than seeing for himself what damage had been done, but if Aiden didn't want to see him he'd have to respect that decision.
The pianist then considered the possibility of asking Matsuda to check on Aiden for him if he couldn't go himself. It wasn't that he couldn't trust Eva, but Aiden should at least see SOMEONE he knew and kind of liked.

Eva nodded, feeling terrible for saying everything she said. "I'm sorry, kid." she told him, actually sincere for once. She sighed quietly, standing against one of the walls like she had in Aiden's room, almost like she was trying to be invisible again. She didn't want to show her face after telling them something like that, but she tried not making it obvious.
Hotaru stayed quiet, not knowing what to say. She wasn't even sure there was something she could say to help. Ignoring the IV's getting tugged and pulled, she sat up a little straighter and adjusted herself to where her legs were hanging off the side of the bed. So what if it hurt slightly, she could toughen it up. She reached over and tried putting her arms around Jack. She wanted to do something for him, whether it would work or not she wasn't too sure.

Jack raised his arms to hug Hotaru back, making sure to be gentle to keep from aggravating the wounds. He gave a silent sigh before relinquishing his hold on her and helping her back towards the bed. He managed a smile. "You need to rest." He admonished, "The doctor'll go nuts if you're up and about.

Hotaru let Jack help her back on the bed, remaining silent for a moment or two. She finally nodded at his suggestion, giving him a warm smile. "Alright." she replied, knowing it would be best not to argue or complain.
A moment or two passed and Hotaru looked over at Eva. "I thought you said your brother was chief of police?" she said, sort of confused.
The blonde laughed quietly for a moment or two before answering, glad to think of something else for the moment. "That's my other brother. Told ya, I got two big brothers and three big sisters, they all got some high up profession, but I couldn't care less." It was true; with all her siblings, Eva could have connections almost everywhere if she just kept in touch with them. "I've got a sister that's a lawyer, one that's a scientist, and another that's somewhere up high in the government." she shuddered. "Never liked her." she shrugged. "Either way, youngest sucked, ya'll are lucky ya each got at least one younger sibling ta mess with."

Jack blinked before considering his own time in the government, he shuddered at the thought. "I might have met your sister." He said, grimacing at the thought. There had been a higher-up (rarely associated with his area of work what with Jack having been so low in the pecking order) with the family name of Shimazaki. She hadn't exactly been his idea of nice, and that was putting it EXTREMELY lightly. "As for being youngest, I'm sure Tekka sympathizes with you."

Eva looked at Jack again. "Poor you, Avery's a bitch." she remarked, not too loudly, but loud enough to hear at the same time.
Hotaru laughed at the two's comments for a moment. "Well, in a way, I am the youngest since I don't see Naomi or anything, just me and Matsuda." she shrugged. "He never really picked on me now that I think about it." Sure, there were arguments here and there, but putting together the house they lived in plus how long she had been away from them, it was kinda clear why she didn't get the whole 'older sibling bully' thing.

Jack laughed. "Lucky you Ru-ru." He said, grinning a bit more genuinely now that the issue of Aiden wasn't at the forefront of his mind. "I did it to Tekka all the time, granted, she got me back plenty, but I think I did it more." Because he was pretty sure that if he HADN'T, the little Tora would have been a complete and utter crybaby her entire life. Whether she liked admitting it or not, he had toughened her up at least a little bit, and their relationship was quite a bit better nowadays.
"Can't say Aiden ever did it to me. Not completely on purpose anyway." He actually couldn't recall too many times where the elder Ookami had done anything bad to Jack whilst thinking clearly. He was either inebriated or having some odd fit (one that Jack had yet to figure out all the details about) or was already pissed. Most of the times the rage was directed towards Tekka, Jack typically just got caught in the crossfire... or so had been the case up until recently.

Eva simply laughed. "Me and Lucas would go back and forth pickin' on each other, that was always when Anthony always came in and broke up the fight." she grinned at the memory, she was always closer to her brothers than she was her sisters. "Avery, Ayaka, and Rachel were the pampered ones, never got to pull anything on them." she frowned. So many opportunities could have come up otherwise.
She then turned to Hotaru again. "And if your brother never pick on ya, that's probably why you were such a cry baby when I first met'cha." she grinned.
Hotaru, who got very offended, ended up shaking her head and pouting slightly. "I was not a crybaby!" she insisted. Okay... maybe she was, but still, Eva didn't have to bring that up!

Jack chuckled and leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed over his chest.. "I honestly can't imagine Ru-ru as a crybaby, it's just a little too weird." He was hoping he'd be able to weasel a story or two from Eva, whether he managed it now or not was another question entirely.

The blond laughed a little louder. "Oh, trust me, if it weren't for me she'd still be running off every time some stranger gave her an odd look." Hotaru was turning red from embarrassment at this point, but Eva kept going anyway. "First time she saw me I thought she was gonna have a heart attack." she paused. "Well, either that or a broken arm from that trash can she ran into trying to get away."
"Hey!" interrupted the other Tora. "That was a death glare and a growl you gave me, and I didn't see the trash can!" she tried countering with, only making the blond grin even wider.
"Boss," she started, looking at Hotaru, resisting a snicker or two. "I didn't growl, I sneezed. There's a difference." The brunette Tora paused and turned the other direction, pouting even more. She didn't have a come back for that...

Jack struggled to hold back laughter, not succeeding very well at all. Especially with the comment about the sneeze. Well, he was certainly feeling better, though he was a bit sad that it came with the price of Hotaru getting miffed. He managed to tone it down to a grin, giving an apologetic look to the brunette after. "Sorry Ru-ru..." He mumbled sheepishly.

Hotaru sighed. "I'm sure." she muttered. Eva grinned to herself, satisfied with the reaction she got from Hotaru. Just because she called her Boss didn't mean she couldn't treat her like the little sister she saw her as from time to time.
"Oh come on Boss, lighten up." the loyal Tora told her. "I never picked on you like this back in the day, ya gotta gimme a break."
Hotaru took a moment and grinned to herself before looking back at Eva. "That's because I would've broken your arm if you tried picking on me back then." she reminded her, causing the blond to shudder at the thought before getting back to her calm composure. She didn't want to be reminded of that.

And THAT was why Jack couldn't picture Hotaru being any less than what she was right now, that she could make Eva shudder with fear with a few words. It was a bit frightening, but it was also pretty damn impressive, and he couldn't picture his girlfriend any other way. "You know," He smiled. "For some reason I don't doubt that..."
