Jack grinned as she swam to shore, something silver and on a chain clutched in her palm. "Then get back here, the water's got to be freezing!" He called back. Jack's older sibling instincts were kicking in and they were demanding that Mel get out of the water.
He had a sinking feeling that those instincts would get very annoying very soon and so he pushed them to the side. The elder Ookami held out the dry shirt to Mel as she got out of the water.

She climbed out of the cold water, shivering took the shirt from Jack "Thanks" she stuttered as she put it on and then reached into the bag and pulled out the leather jacket and draped it over her shoulders. With the greatest amount of care she pulled the silver shain round her neck and fastened it.She opened the locket to check the picture. It was a little damp but luckily the ink hadn't run. "I got it" she repeated, beaming.

Jack smiled. "Good, you won't get sick for nothing at least." He peered at his locket from his higher vantage point. "A locket..." he mumbled under his breath, so that was what Mel had deemed so important. There seemed to be a younger Mel in the picture, as well as her mom and dad. At least, that was who he assumed was in the picture.
Were her parents gone? He startled himself with this thought. It was best not to pry, some doors best remained unopened. Besides, if she had thrown it away before, there must have been something involving this that she didn't want to either talk or think about.

"A locket"she heard him mutter "Yes" she whispered "The greatest secrets of my past" she looked at her dad's face.Smiling like the last time she saw him.She pulled the top card from her dech in her jacket pocket.Black rose dragon. She held the card next to the locket and one lone tear splashed down and bounced.

"Hm.." He grunted softly, thinking on her words. Greatest secret? "What do you mean?" Came the inevitable question.
It was at this point that the tear fell and splashed onto the card. He reached out and settled a hand on her shoulder in a brotherly manner. "Hey," He smiled softly. "don't cry, you just got that locket back."

"My dad left when I was seven.I haven't seen him since I just get a duel monsters card on my birthday, not even a letter.I don't know if he's dead and getting someone to send them or alive.I hate not knowing. My mum threw me out and that's why all my stuff that I stole from my own home is in a bag" she sobbed, tears running furiously down her cheeks "This was the last thing I got from him.He told me he'd be back but I was too niave to guess anything was wrong. My secret is I swa them arguing the night he left. And I did nothing. He could have stayed if I did something"

Jack shook his head. "Adults are screwy. You couldn't have made him stay if he was dead-set on leaving. It's not your fault." He closed his eyes. "Believe me when I say that I've seen a family that loves each other split apart. The war can do things like that to people."

Jack grinned, though it was transparent and you could see sadness behind it. "S'okay, my family isn't breaking up physically, more like our emotional attachments to each other are slipping away." He picked up a rock and tossed it up and down in his hand as he looked out at the waves. "And it's all the government's fault. My dad and my older brother are cutting themselves off from the family by working overtime, and my little sister alienates herself from the house so she doesn't have to see her home so drastically changed."
The rock whizzed out of his hand and skipped twice over the water before sinking, Jack let out a sigh. "And me, I'm trying to get everything back the way it was before all this junk happened."

Jack sighed and sat down next to her. "Believe it or not, some people are leaving the government because it's not fair. The problem is new people who are twice as crafty and devious take their place." He shrugged. "Unfortunately, life isn't as fair as it should be."

"Well it's good some people there have some morals.Life should be fair but I wouldn't want it all to be plain sailing.I mean where's the fun in being wrapped in cotton wool.I love the action ,it spices up my life" she gazed out "The ocean is beautiful"

The elder Ookami chuckled. "Typically the saying is 'variety is the spice of life' but I know what you mean. Too much peace and quiet grates on your nerves after awhile."
Jack nodded. "It is, I like it best at sunset and at sunrise." He was an early riser and often found himself seeing the sunrise in the cool morning air.

"I love the ocean and I'd love to see it in the morning I'm just honestly too lazy" she confessed "I don't wake up before 10.Policy"
"I always wanted to sail the sea when I was little... and become a pirate" she giggled "I loved the idea of stealing from ships and always being an adventurer"

Jack grinned. "I always wanted to be an explorer, finding new places and making new paths for people to follow and see the wonders of the world." He sighed happily. "Still do, really. Guess I haven't really grown up yet."
