"Sweet…" The Kuma muttered as he tried sitting up. Ow ow ow ow, okay THAT had hurt. He made a mental note not to move his left shoulder too much, or move much at all, dammit did he have stitches?! Well shit, wasn't he a genius. This was getting embarrassing, first mohawk girl and now this. He was pathetic.
Well, he'd beat himself up about that later, time to figure out what he'd been wondering all this time. "What, uh… what happened to ya, Toru?" Wow did that feel weird saying again, he hadn't called Satoru that since he was little. Still, he was actually concerned, he had saved his life and whatever it was that happened had to have been pretty bad...

Satoru fought past the wave of nostalgia at the long-since disused (by Gabe, at least) nickname and wriggled a little room out of Keith's grasp to face Gabe properly. "Got shot," he replied, though he knew Gabe knew that he wouldn't have been laid up in a hospital if had just been a measly bullet wound. No. "Hit me in the back, I ah..." he paused for a second to keep himself together as he spoke. "I can't feel my legs." Anything from his upper thighs down was deadened.

Keith moved back a little to give Toru some space as he spoke. The words weren't even easy for him to hear yet, it just didn't feel like it was happening. He looked over at Gabe to see his reaction to the news.
It was a slow realization for the blond, but when it hit it hit HARD. His eyes grew wide and he opened his mouth to speak, but nothing would come out. He couldn't feel his legs? As in permanently? Gabe's mouth closed and he ground his teeth together as he turned his head away from them. He didn't want them seeing his eyes starting to water, that just wouldn't be right. This was seriously happening. This was real, it happened and all because Satoru had been protecting HIM?! When all he'd done up until recently was act like an ungrateful brat?!
He shouldn't have gotten caught like that, or he should have found a way to escape. He was SMART dammit, he should have come up with some way to get away from those thugs. He shouldn't have been so helpless, he should have FOUGHT BACK or at least TRY to. If he had done any of that, maybe the outcome would be different, better with just him in a hospital bed and not Toru. This was fucked up on so many levels…

"If you're beating yourself up over it," Satoru interrupted, voice managing to be much calmer than he felt at the moment, "stop." He let out a small breath, not quite a sigh, but close. Steady, he reminded himself. Just don't waver. "The people who went after you used you to get to me, they were armed and you weren't." He frowned. "And even if you had been, there were more of them." Hell, he had gotten hit badly and he was a better shot than Gabe, not to mention he knew how gangs operated. "So just... don't, alright? Just don't."

That would be a little easier said than done, Gabe thought. "Shut up." He muttered, voice shaking just a little as he fought the urge to yell. "Not talkin' about it." Because he knew if they went into it they would start fighting, and after everything he didn't want to feel responsible for anything else.
Satoru was right, he knew he was, but it's not like it helped any. Letting it go wouldn't make his stepdad's legs magically work, it wouldn't take away the fact that Gabe had been helpless, USELESS even. How was he going to protect anyone he cared about when he couldn't even do it for himself?
That would change though. Once he recovered, maybe not even completely but just enough to do what he could, he was fixing that. No one else was going to get hurt for his sake, he'd make sure of it.

Satoru would have pushed the issue under normal circumstances, driven home the fact that it wasn't Gabe's fault and probably would have started an argument... But he found that for once he didn't have the energy for it. Maybe it was the blood loss or the sedatives or the rollercoaster his innards were dealing with at the moment... But no matter what he just... didn't push it. His shoulders slumped a bit.
He was so damn tired of fighting... "Fine."

Keith looked between the other two males. Well, it was better than them fighting he guessed, but they had been making progress lately and he was worried this may bring it back some. He sighed after awhile. "Gabe, you need to eat, I'll go get us something." He kissed the top of Satoru's head and moved to get off the bed. He wouldn't have to worry about them ripping each other's head off if this was going to be the general mood, so he could leave them for a few minutes.
Gabe didn't do much to show he had heard, just a small turn of the head as his father left the room. He hadn't thought about it, but the blond really was starving. Food might be a good idea. He moved his head to face his lap. He hated awkward silences, so he might as well try something. "…So how long you think we'll be in here?" He asked Satoru, still looking down at his lap as he spoke.

Satoru gave a shrug, suddenly feeling cold without Keith around. Frankly the ex tora wouldn't have minded if the hospital decided to keep him for a few years as long as they kept him in a coma. He didn't want to deal with this... But he didn't really have that luxury. Gabe was here, after all, and someone had to make sure he knew how to properly handle a gun by the end of all this. "We'll be out by tomorrow," he said. "They've patched you up as well as they can and none of your injuries were very complicated, and as for me, they can't really do much else." So they'd be home soon, at least.
Mina and Egil surged forward as soon as they saw Keith exit the room. "Are they awake!?" Mina asked instantly, getting nearly uncomfortably close to Keith to ask her questions. Egil hung back a bit but looked just as anxious as Mina did. "How long are they stuck in there for? Can we go in? How're they taking everything?" The lady gunslinger didn't seem to stop for breath. "Gabe doesn't blame himself does he? Is he exhibiting signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? He was kidnapped and beaten bloody so that's a possibility, have the doctors discussed the possibility?" She finally paused for a gulp of air, Egil moved his hand to cover her mouth and give Keith a chance to respond.

Gabe nodded. "Alright, good." He was going to stay home until every bit of his injuries were healed, at least the more noticeable ones, he'd much rather people ask him why he was gone for so long than to ask why he has so beaten up. Another thought came to him. "I'm uh, gonna need you to start training me again." He didn't just need to show up and practice a bit on his own, he needed someone there that knew what they were doing. "I don't care how hard you have to be on me, just make me as good as you can, as fast as you can." That was all he would ask of the gunslinger. He needed this for himself.
Keith took a step back as he was nearly tackled with questions. The inked man sighed and tried to answer as many questions as he could. "They're both awake, they should be able to leave tomorrow." He started. "They're handling things… better than I expected, so that's something I guess. Y'all can go in, but Gabe's not wanting to talk about it, so I wouldn't bring it up." Honestly he hadn't thought about him having PTSD until Mina said something. Great, now another thing he was worried about.

Despite everything, a wry grin worked its way onto Satoru's face. "You sure about that?" He asked, "I'm pretty sure I made you cry a couple of times..." He wound up regretting them after the 'drill sergeant' mode had worn off, thank god.
Mina frowned a bit and nudged Egil towards the door to check in on the pair, she would accompany Keith for a bit. "What about you?" She asked after Egil passed through the door. "How are you handling things? You nearly lost your son and husband, that's... that's heavy stuff."

Gabe managed to laugh a little at that, but just a little. "Yeah well, that was back then." He was older now, he could(and WOULD) take it. "I can do it." He didn't think he'd felt this determined over something before, that alone should show how serious he was about it.
Keith started to walk down the hall knowing Mina would follow. He gave a small grin. "Well someone's gotta strong for them right? I'm not the one people should be worrying over." Satoru and Gabriel were alive, in the end that was all he could ask for.

"Good," as soon as they were both mobile, he'd start teaching Gabe again. So, hopefully some time in the next week if he could get his hands on, and he winced at the thought of it, a wheelchair. He pushed the thought firmly out of his mind. Distraction, what could he use for a distractio--
No less than .01 seconds later he was trapped in a crushing hug by an overly worried mama-bear of a Swede.

Gabe blinked as Egil came out of practically NOWHERE and hugged Satoru. Huh, well at least his stepdad would have better company than himself, that was good. The younger blond in the room went silent again as he turned to see if he could look out the window. Hopefully it would keep him occupied until his dad came back with food, unless the other two in the room decided they wanted to talk to him. He just didn't think he was really worth much attention at the moment, not with what he had caused.

It took some struggling to get the Swede to get off of him but eventually Satoru managed it. The big blond's worry was immediately shifted to Gabe, and he hurried over to take stock of the situation. It had looked pretty grisly in the warehouse, and while Gabe wasn't anywhere near his usual self yet, without all the blood it was easier to see what the injuries were actually like.
Mina trotted beside Keith. "I know you worry about Gabe, though," she said. "Gabe, Toru... you're the one they're gonna be leaning on since they won't lean on one another. That's a lot of weight."

Gabe felt the Swede's presence beside him and sighed, still staring out the window as he spoke. "I'll be fine, Egil." He spoke calmly. He didn't even think they should be paying attention to him in the first place, all his wounds would heal after all.
Keith nodded slightly as they walked, she had a point, but, "You're forgetting for a time there I was juggling being a single dad and keeping a business running." Back then it wasn't like he could have passed clients to Frankie if he absolutely needed to like he could now. It was either spend the long hours and hope to squeeze in time for Gabe, or lose customers and end up homeless. This was different, he knew that, but he could handle it. "If they're happy, I'm happy, plain and simple." And if that meant risking throwing his life away then he'd do it without hesitating. He didn't think it would get that bad, but if it ever did then he'd be ready.
