Meredith Wallis-Kline was never one for wandering off or straying too far from the beaten path. Sure, she liked the idea of an adventure as much as the next person, but when it came down to reality she was hopelessly out of her league in attempting to brave the unknown. That she would find this out by accident while trying to just have some fun at Fire Mountain was more than a little unfortunate.
What was even MORE unfortunate was that she had forgotten her cellphone in her dorm room with her sister and couldn't phone for help. Merry was undeniably lost, and the thought of being stuck in the huge place was causing a knot in the young teen's throat. She didn't do too well with being on her own, a side-effect that had probably come about from foster homes she had been bounced around in with her sister, whom she had once been separated from thanks to the system and hadn't quite been able to handle the distance.
Merry wrung her hands nervously as she looked about, bottom lip worried between small teeth as she tried to find ANYTHING to show her how to get back out and to the dorms... She had managed to sneak out and get here, but the thrill had worn off and she just wanted to go back home... She could feel tears welling up at the (rather silly, but honestly terrifying) notion that she wouldn't get back ever and would stay lost and DIE here...
Panic, she would decide later, was the root of that notion.

Gabe wasn't sure what lead him to go to Fire Mountain on his own for once, it was usually Adriana that drug him here to play games and all. He didn't really like sticking around the dorms that much either, it all just made him feel closed off, and his dad had some huge project with a customer today and he didn't feel like going in to the tattoo parlor and risk messing him up.
So in short, there really wasn't anywhere else that seemed worth going to. He took off his glasses for a second and rubbed his eye, and stopped once he heard something close by. He put his glasses back on and looked around, finally spotting a little girl not too far off. She looked lost, and panicked, which was reasonable if she was in fact lost.
Gabe made his way over to her and knelt down to look at her better. He smiled and held a hand out to her. "Hey there, are you lost?" he asked softly.

Merry jolted alert at the sound of a voice, it was a little on the deep side and a tad rough, but it sounded kind... She rubbed at her eyes and glanced toward it's source. Her breath hitched as she nodded, too scared at the prospect of dying alone to consider the implications of talking to a stranger. "M-mhm..." She whimpered. She wasn't sure what else to say, she was too caught up in her own whirling thoughts to think of things like that.

"Well then," started Gabe, still smiling in hopes of getting her a little more comfortable. "Let's change that, huh? My name's Gabe, what's yours?" he tried.

"M-Merry..." Came the shaky reply as she wiped at her eyes. "I'm... I'm Merry." He was smiling at her... and strangely enough it helped her calm down a bit... he looked nice enough, and he had come over to help her despite all the other people that had passed by. She took a deep breath, trying to remember everything her therapist had taught her about remaining calm.
"Can... can you please help me get back to the dorms, Gabe?" She asked... It was a plea, really. She was scared and lonely and she just wanted to get back to her sister and she was hungry and upset to boot...

Gabe chuckled under his breath and nodded to her. "I can certainly do that, Merry." The dorms weren't too far away, and it wasn't like he had anything better to do. He'd be glad to help her. "Do you have an older sibling I could help you find too? Or your parents maybe?" He might as well ask, having Merry's family suddenly find her with him out of the blue might be a little easier to explain if he could get ahold of them.

Merry shook her head. "Karina- my sister, she's at the dorms right now and both Daddy and Papa are back at home..." She was here on her own, and she doubted that Karina would think she wandered off on her own. Heck, MERRY couldn't believe she'd done something like this. She NEVER did things like this.

Daddy and Papa, huh? Interesting, but he'd think about that later, first thing's first. "Alright then, well just come with me." he said, still making sure he kept his tone nice and soft to keep her calm. He held his hand out to her in case she wanted to take it or something, anything to make her feel comfortable.

Merry latched onto his hand with one of her own and was immediately filled with a sense of security. She was WITH someone now, so everything was going to be okay. Her stomach let out a long and low growl as she thought that, as if to prove her wrong. She frowned a little but pushed that aside. She could eat at the dorms, there'd be no issue with that...
Although it WAS rather late. It was already dark and Merry didn't know how late it really was but it certainly wasn't dinnertime anymore. She had left a bit after lunch and had spent her food money on games in the arcade (she didn't regret it, but it would be nice to eat now). All in all, it was a terrible situation until Gabe had found her.
"Thank you," she replied quietly. "I-I mean it really. Thank you a whole lot for this..."

Gabe stood to his full height and looked down at Merry. "It's no problem at all, really." He was just glad to help, it was best that he made himself useful in this time anyway. He started walking to the exit of Fire Mountain, occassionally glancing down to make sure Merry was still with him. Then, he decided to make conversation. "So how old are you, Merry?" He asked first, that should get a good start on it.

"Thirteen," Merry answered as she loosened her grip on Gabe's hand. It couldn't have been particularly comfortable for him... and just being around someone lent a great sense of comfort to the young Tora. "I, um... I just got into the dorms recently... What about you?" The stutters and stammers in her speech were starting to fade. Gabe could and would help her, she decided. He seemed very kind indeed...

Gabe felt the grip on his hand lighten up, that was good, meant she felt a little more relaxed. "I'm seventeen, been at the dorms for a few years now." He didn't really talk to his roommate all that much, not because he didn't like him, he just never had anything to say. "How do you like the dorms so far?" If Merry had an older sister she probably roomed with her.

Merry kept her remaining hold on Gabe's hand, unwilling to relinquish it completely. "It's pretty okay, I room with my big sister Karina, she looks after me." She gave a shy smile. "Do you have any siblings, Gabe?"

Gabe shook his head at Merry's question. "Nope, it's just me and my dad." He replied as they walked together. "Always did want a little brother or sister, but it just never happened." Juggling being a father and running a business, Gabe supposed meeting another girl was out of the question, let alone having another kid.

"What about your mom?" Merry asked before she could clap her hand over her mouth. She knew that could be a TERRIBLE thing to ask. She herself had occasionally been picked on (in some hazy and still terrifying memories of a not-quite-home before Daddy and Papa) by kids that had needled and twisted at her self esteem using that very question as leverage. "You don't... I mean you don't have to answer that if you don't want to..." She squeaked out quietly, face flushing at her imagined faux-pas.
