Karter resisted the urge to scream at Yuki. To throw her to the ground, break her bones and make her know that he didn't want her near Theo. Because she couldn't possibly care for the gentle Tora like he did, because she wasn't the one that never slept in order to keep him safe, because she wasn't the one that had to run every potential action she could take through her head to make sure it was safe for Theo. She did none of that, and yet Theo would love her more than he would ever care about Karter.
Because Yuki was kind, and gentle, and strong where Theo was weak, and comforting and THERE when the dark-haired Tora needed her. She was the person the gentler side of Karter was falling in love with, even if the stammering Tora didn't realize it himself. But Karter did. He knew. And it tore him apart from the inside out.
"No." He said finally, dropping her and not caring if she landed on her feet or her back. "It doesn't."

Coughing and sputtering, Yukiko gradually succeeded in filling her lungs with air. She glanced up at Karter, wanting to give him a much harsher glare. Who was he to tell her who she cared about; who she gave her life to? Karter didn't know her, even if he was cocky enough to assume he did.
He didn't know what she had been through before meeting his other half; he didn't know the guilt and pain and pure loneliness that she felt every day of her life ever since her family fell apart. He didn't know how empty she had felt until Theo had stumbled into her life. The shy, gentle Tora had helped her feel like a human being again- had helped her feel something other than numbness- and had given her something special where there had been nothing.
But she couldn't say that. Not to Karter. Yukiko wasn't stupid. She knew just as much.
So she said nothing.

Karter's hand twitched but he denied it the pleasure of breaking Yuki's nose. "Get going then." He said icily, "Mikka's either at your base or the graveyard." He just needed to get away from the Ookami and get himself back together. Maybe break a few necks along the way. Anything to keep himself from killing the person Theo treasured.

Yukiko nodded, slowly getting to her feet. "Got it. Thanks." Something struck her as odd about thanking someone who had nearly tried to strangle her, but it was a passing feeling. She was just happy Karter had somewhat agreed to pull himself out of the fight, and that he'd left her more or less unharmed. Physically speaking anyway.
The Ookami dusted herself off, turning to Karter once more. "I'll make sure she isn't angry with you." Without so much as a curt nod she turned, keeping her pace deliberate and slow as she left the playground.
It took everything she had to keep from running.
